ummm i have been hearing about being banned and i know you mentioned it before but how exactly do they catch you? can you get like an ip blocker or somthing?

also does the dvd drive to burn the backups have to be DVD RW DL or can it be DVD RW?

An ip blocker will not work, and also you need a DL burner to backup games.

I need to go back to Fry's and buy an esata to sata cable correct? is that what you used? has any body else used this? thanks!

I think you should have bought a SATA PCMCI card rather than an eSATA, but if you have already bought it, then you will have to buy the esata to sata cable.

Once at the boot screen did you have the drive tray ejected, I know it should automatically stay out, but sometimes I have had to manually force it back in, then let it eject at the windows loading screen to get windows to boot.

sorry i didn't explain myself well enough..

i plugged the drive to the port, booted up slax, got to login screen, drive was in mode b. close drive (the right way) and proceed to next step.

I restart computer take out slax disk, when it gets to the loading screen, the bar doesnt move or even appear actually (just the outline is there but no blue bar moving through it)

i restart computer several times, same problem.

i unplug sata to computer just to allow the computer to boot. By the time it boots i plug it back in and insert a dvd to try the drive. Autorun starts and i close that. I launch toolbox 4.6, go to dump firmware and get "cant read from drive" error popup. (at the same time the disk in the drive stops spinning)

i have tried it several times with several disks to be safe... no difference...

any help?

i tried closing and opening the drive a billion times at the loading screen... no difference..

HELP ME!!! im thinking of ordering a via vt6141a (i think thats what its called) for my pc. once again i have a hitachi 78fk.. help? ?:)

I've flashed a 78 drive using a via chipset, Im not sure what might be causing the problem here, how long did you wait at the boot up screen?

ok so a follow up...

i managed to get the original.bin from the drive with toolbox 3.0

then i tried to flash with toolbox 4.6, and to my luck, my drive is now bricked.

I can confirm the pcmcia card does not work, and your better off with a via 6141 card..

any help for bricked drives?

Were you not able to get the original firmware off of the drive through toolbox 4.6??
And is the drive tray not ejecting anymore?

Its definitely bricked, you can use something like the chillifix chip to recover the drive, not sure if you can recover it without the chip, or flashing another drive could work, but I dont recommened you use that pcmci card to flash it.

hi all,

After reading the tutorials over and over, I decided to mod my friends 360. It had a Hitachi 59 Drive. Use the two-wire resistor trick to set drive in mode B. Connected the drive To my sata ports
(integrated to my Intel D945PVS motherboard) And Flash with ixtreme 1.4 flash. Downloaded Call for Duty 4 burn with clone cd. And it work!!!! On my first try.. And This week will try to do another one.
Will like to do with a different drive. Well just wanted to share my expirience.. Good luck to all on your modding!!!!

Hello everyone! I am brand new to the forums here and want to start off by saying that this seems to be a very well put together site and a great group! I know that we have all been to forums that are not a pleasant experience. Anyway, to the point. I just opened my 360 and discovered that I have the BenQ drive. I also have found a step by step forum that will lead me through the flashing process. I have already gotten the firmware from xbins so I am ready there. The question that I have is regarding purchasing the VIA VT6421 PCI card for my desktop. I have found several cards on EBAY ranging in price from $16 to $27. This card http://cgi.ebay.com/VIA-VT6421A-Hi-Speed...1QQcmdZViewItem says for XBOX 360 but this card http://cgi.ebay.com/SYBA-SY-VIA-150-SATA...1QQcmdZViewItem advertises specific software compatibilty for the BenQ drive. Both cards have the same chipset so my question is should I pay the $10 extra or will both of these cards do the same thing? I really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!

I would recommend your purchase the via 6421 chipset, leave the other one.

lilg_06 thanks for responding! Both of these cards have the 6421 chipset. My question is will this "special compatible software" make any difference? Thanks again!

Both have the same chipset, theres nothing special about the more expensive one, the normal via 6421 chipset is 100% compatible, so dont worry about it, it will make no difference.

Just so I'm clear, are the Kreon drives the only ones that can read, and thus rip, the games? Or can one just buy a DL burner to both rip and burn the image? (using xBox backup creator)

Thanks much

You cant use any ordinary drive for ripping, you need the samsung-toshiba drive with kreon firmware for ripping, or you can use the drive in your xbox 360.

Hi,

Can someone please help?

I have flash my 360 with ixtreem firmware rev 1.2 in October 07.

I could then play all of my games, movies & backup's.

Sometime around November I couldn't play any of my games or movies...

The only thing that my box do is telling me this: "Open tray" when I put a game.

Can someone please let me know what to do?

My 360 has a hitachi dvd drive version 0.47

Do I need to flash my box with my old firmware and then flash-it back again with an other firmware?

Thank you in advance!

If this issue worsened over time, then the laser could have got weak, in this case, you may have to tweak the pots to get it to work again. But before doing this, do try flashing back the original firmware, and trying a different one.
