Yep, Sunday ,Dec 3,around 3:30 pm EST videogaming as we know it seized to exist. I got a E74 message. The first time I got the 3 rings of death microsoft fixed it. This time its costing me $150.00 to fix with xbox360-pros. I'm driving out to Long Issland to get my 360 fixed the same day and in about half of hours time. I do not trust microsoft because they did'nt fix it right the first time. It also took a month to fix. Xbox360-pros is going to give me cooler fans, new clamps, new heat sinks and re solder all motherboard connections and re set CPU and GPU.

I assume that the common fault that was possible to the 360s is now eradicated from brand new 360s?

No it is not. They are still prone to failure though it seems to be at lower instances so far.

add another one to the list; got a 360 with 3RROD for free. did the xclamp fix, and it worked . . . for a day. now it's throwing 1RROD E74, error 1022.
bought new cables, but still throwing 1RROD. heated the ANA chip with hairdryer on hot; didn't do anything.
is there anything else worth trying before getting a new one?
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

system case was already opened for flashing the samsung, and the microsoft seal was gone. manufacture date is 12-26-05, months after launch, so original warranty is gone. was thinking of reflashing to original firmware and sending it off, but i was thinking "it's already open, so why not try the xclamp mod". worked for a day, then IT happened.
so now, my brother wants to pull the old switcharoo at his work. he says that they only check the case serial number, nothing else. since i have experience with opening the case, i can just switch the cases.
feel bad about pulling it? yes. but my brother said his work is shady already.

Got the red ring...luckily, my girlfriend had bought the best buy replacement plan, so 1) I didn't have to send in my hard drive, and 2) Best buy receives it and then sends me a gift card to go buy a new one with. I'm spending the extra 50 for the elite b/c of the lower wattage power supply and the falcon chip. hdmi and the 120 gb hard drive doesn't hurt either

Well it seems Microsoft may have stepped up there customer service. It took me about 3 weeks to receive my shipping box, but once I sent it out I got it back in less than a week...and it's working for now. I haven't put to much time on it as I bought a new console to tide me over (I was expecting to get it back in two months) but it seems to run a lot cooler and much much quieter.
Hopefully this turn around time wasn't a one time thing.

Got 3 rrod a few months ago, did x-clamp mod & works great. Had one other time a couple weeks ago with 3 rrod but just had to snug up the screws on the x-clamps.

Why do you guys do this and void your warranty? Just send it out to Microsoft, they have all the hardware problems worked out now.

mine was for free, so why not. but that's all fixed now, since we have a new arcade system (thanks to the case switcharoo and other people in it). on top of that, a free harddrive from a friend, and the cooling is improved, since i did the fan shroud mod and added memory heatsinks to the ram and hana chips.
all that it needs is for the benq to be flashed.
microsoft should ditch the xclamps, and replace them with screws, like the xclamp mod. main cause of 3RROD is because of the xclamps.

Hey you know what, I've had eleven consoles break down on me. Trust me I've been following this for some time now. My newest console has been working flawlessly for months now. They have made changes to their repair process adding new heatsinks and they are now replacing the motherboards with falcon motherboards when you send it in for repair. The chances of getting a non working xbox BACK from repair are MUCH lower now.

I got a 360 off ebay for 160 with the RROD
sent it to microsoft got it fixed with the new heatsink added on (i can post a pic of it if anyone wants)
all in all i think i got a pretty good deal
