@ peterng :)
You can use "Despertar del Cementerio v4" to upgrade your PSP Directly to 3.80m33-5 :)
Then you can update to 3.90m33-2 :)
That's the fastest process I know >_<
You can download "Despertar del Cementerio v4" from HERE

I am having a problem and am wondering if anyone can help. I formatted my MS, and used the installer. But when I go to use the "battery" program I get a message saying "The game could not be started." Am I doing anything wrong, or is this just not possible with a non-custom FW? Btw I have the latest FW update (3.90, not custom).

You can only run programs on your PSP if it has custom firmware...

PSP, all the way from 1.00 to 5.50 GEN D2 - DS Lite w/ M3DS Real (M3 Sakura v1.34)

So basically, I'm gonna have to use someone's PSP that has either CFW or a FW low enough for me to update to a custom one, right?

Yeps :)
It should be a 1.50 firmware or a custom firmware :)
That will help you make the magic memory stick and pandora battery :)

Well I finally got myself a Pandora Battery. I used this installer to create the magic memory stick, and I hardmodded the battery. Yeah, I gave up softmodding it using the Slim PSP.

Hardmodding it saved me a lot of aggravation and time, though I did manage to cut my finger in the process. Luckily it wasn't a deep cut. Sigh, darn Sony for making this so hard. Now I brick my PSP just out of spite :P.

No, you can hard-mod your battery or buy a TOOL battery, and you can use the UPMS installer for OFW to create the MMS(there's a stickied guide here on aD).

My firmware is the 3.80 m33. I've followed the steps many times over, and I also tried the Magic Installer, but whenever I get to this stage:

"4) Install files using the installer! "

I'm left with the 'Pandora's Battery Firm. Installer' and 'Pandora's Battery Creator' icons, and two 'corrupted data' icons. When I launch either of the pandora ones, I get the error message "The games could not be started. (80020148).

Can someone pleeease tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'd appreciate it so much.

Cheers!

P.S. I'm using a 1GB genuine Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo.

you need the 1.50 kernel update to run the pandoras creation menu,
go here to get the one for your firmware
http://www.dark-alex.org/
go into recovery mode (hold down R trigger while booting up)
and go to configuration, there set your kernel to 1.50

You can use a PSP classic battery on a PSP slim :)
But be sure to hold the battery tightly or juz temporarily tape it because while putting a PSP classic battery on a PSP slim, you cannot put the battery cover back on the PSP slim :)

on thing you need to be sure of is that the pins line up with the battery, then push in gently (put the me stick in first of course)

The best way I managed to do it is Use Pandora bat to Boot the PSP with the MMS (I am using UPMS sense it seemed to have the most features for the slim) and then Once you have the pandora menu up attach AC adapter because then it won't matter if you hold the bat in place, while you are trying to nav menus and wait for installs.

I am still needing to do research but at the moment Both my batteries are Pandora (Phat and Slim) And All but my MMS have the Boot IPL on the mem stick so it boots the the XMB directly despite me havening a Pandora battery installed. Only thing I have noticed is that on Battery insert my systems seem to try and boot up and I have to have a Mem stick in or it won't boot at all. The nice part is that I never have to run a app to convert my bat I just have to take the right bat and my MMS and put it in someones PSP while holding R and I can Recover a Brick, Install custom firmware, back up Nand, etc

Can someone help me out. I removed pin5 on the ICO4 chip on the battery, and I'm pretty sure it's the right one. When I tried to turn it on it had no response, the power LED was off. Then I tried to plug the power cord in, it powered up but loaded to the normal PSP XMB.

I checked on several sources and watched a few youtube videos to confirm the location of the pin, so I'm sure I got the right one. The other pins are intact too, I can't seem to find the problem.

well youtube is filled with n00bs, people find out how to do something...they think there god...and make a crappy video....
look at this for MAH 1800
http://my.afterdawn.com/n01noob/show_ima...full/modbattery
are you doing it to a slim/fat?
mah 1800 or mah 2200

you only cut off the fifth pin if the battery is a 2200 mAh, make sure
you cut of the pin on the right battery!

I got the 1800mah battery and I cut the pin in the picture, doing it to a PSP fat.

Somehow when I turn the power on with the power cord plug in, that's the only way I can start it, it loads to XMB not the memory stick. Is there another pin I need to cut out or anything I can do to fix it. If my battery is gone then that's ok, but I just want to exhaust every option before paying someone else to mod my PSP. Thanks for your help though.

@ gidodlse :)
You must not put the AC adapter :)
Juz power on the PSP with the "pandora battery" (The battery in which you cut the pin 5) and the "Magic memory stick" which I hope so you made :P
1st, put the "Memory stick" and then put the "pandora battery" :)
