Sony has people thinking sh*t up and they have people thinking Sh*t up, and those people have people who are thinking sh*t up.... i want to ask a question.if a certain firmware has been hacked successfully and ps3 games copied successfully on blue-ray disks or any other way to load games on ps3 and people can play them.
the question is: why people should update the hacked firmware to a newer one which is not hacked yet and wait until it is hacked and so on for newer firmwares?
i know that the new firmware will make ps3 performance better and fix some problems in old ones but at least the ps3 is working now or no one should get a ps3 until the last firmware be available and sony say this is last firmware update and then people buy it so everything will solved.
i mean that hackers work on a certain firmware and say that in forums for example(we are working on this firmware version "ex:the current one so that for people who have this version dont update the ps3 firmware and for people who have old one update to the under hacking version").and declare when they finish so people can hack the ps3.
i know that when a certain version been hacked many other versions will be passed and only the newest one will be available, and people can update to it when it is hacked.
for example, hackers work only on the current firmware version and people dont update even if a newer one is available and for people who have older firmware version, they can update to the current one,ok.then hackers declare that the current (the same version they have been working on)is hacked now so all ps3 owners can hack their ps3 systems.
now there are 4 or 5 newer versions and the last one is available, now the same thing will be done,(hackers will work on the newest version and when it hacked people can upgrade to it and hack the ps3)and so on.
if hackers and ps3 owners dont help each other,ps3 will not be hacked forever because the newer firmware will spoil the hackers work and all people will download the newer version and hackers will not be able to hack it because a newer version will be available before they hack the current version.and i think that ps3 will not be hacked by a mod-chip like ps2.
i dont know if this idea can be done, and if it can be done let hackers and ps3 owners start from the current version for example.
please tell me what is your opinion about this idea.

If firmware updates are anything like the xbox 360 and Wii, to play the newer games and use new features, it is required that you update. Most likely when a PS3 firmware gets hacked eventually, the option to program a spoof in it to disguise itself as a newer firmware should be available also to allow playing of newer games. And if someone upgrades on mistake, an option to downgrade should come around also.

By using discs you can bypass updates, even with a chip if you look into a stealth method or a way to disable the modchip. If you run a hack off the actual system then yeah your right.Firmware updates will make hacking the system harder if the hack is run off lets say a harddrive. It will have to be constantly updated, and may not work even when updating your system with a firmware hack.A modchip can be turned off so you can update, and gives the option to update firmwares or even play online.
Quote: Why can't a hard drive deliver the same HD quality video as a BD disc, as I understand it, a BD disc (in laymens terms) was just a DVD with plenty more room for HD quality right and maybe better read speeds?? I understand the laser in blu-ray drives are smaller to allow reading smaller data rings in all, hence increased space, but not sure if these differences make it more superior than HDDs as far as media playback.
Do you have any links to more information about the ability for HDDs to deliver content.
Thats an easy question when you convert any type of video source you lose quality. You can't transfer anything to the harddrive over 4GB in the Hypervisor,so most Blu-Ray movies will have to be stripped of their quality.By using discs you get perfect quality, and don't have to worry about FAT32 restrictions. So using discs is actually better in my opinion, not really affordable at the moment but it would be better.Plus there is more to Blu-Ray media than reading the pots smaller,as you mentioned they have quicker read speeds than a regular dvd drive. The Blu-Ray drive isn't quick enough to beat a harddrive though, and wouldn't actually need to beat harddrive speeds to deliver high def content.I just don't think using a harddrive would be easy to do,since Sony has made the system pretty much useless for storing Blu-Ray content on the hypervisor.

Yeah that 4GB barrier has to be broken. If a modchip is developed, this shouldn't be a problem because the ability to read NTFS formats could be programed into the modchip bios and then voila!!, problem solved. But anyway, we will just have to sit and wait for some back-up method to be developed and hope that whatever it is, its economically feasible.

Well I think that the modchip is kinda outta the question here because of the price of a blu ray burner and discs, at least for now the price is out of hand. I have been able to load games onto a Hard Drive but after that i cant get a loader to load the games, i have heard of the Devhook and Ottm@n loaders that were "suppose" to come out on 12/10/06 and 9/9/07 respectively, but I never had a chance to try them. If anyone can find a loader it would solve all of our problems with backups, only if someone had a solution to this.

There has been a modchip for the PS3 called the infectus it just hasn't been looked at hard enough. It has the ability to downgrade firmwares, and can give the ability to dump firmwares also.It uses a 512KB flash, and is soldered directly to the nands on the PS3.You can read more about it on their website http://www.infectus.biz .They lack the information for streaming the encryption key back on the discs. It is a multifunctional chip as well, not only does it work with the PS3 it also works with the PS2,XBox 360,and the Wii is possible as well.If a hack is going to involve I would consider looking into this chip for possibilities, because it has been proven it works for downgrading firmwares.I haven't seen any progress from the harddrive of the PS3,but plenty of information that lets me know using discs is an option.

The PS2 is a great console
it have a lot of good games and you can play backups
I think that if the ps3 don't get any type of mod, it will lose the console war and microsoft will take all the market
When sony will see that the ps3 sells are not getting better with the prices cut
They(sony)will release a mod chip

This is one of the funniest posts ive seen yet, people love the Playstation brand,it has a huge loyal fanbase,Sony always makes a few silly mistakes at the start but they always get it right after a while.Microsoft wont take all the market,i think the Nintendo DS is doing better than the 360.Sony will NOT i repeat NOT make a Modchip.

Will developers want to make as many games on the xbox 360 now as they know that people can download their hard work for free. Could this attract more games to ps3? Just a thought..

I'm with you marcusita, that is quite funny. I was actually under the impression that console manufacturers lost money on their consoles for a good few years after they release it. It is with the games where they make their money. See here... http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/12567.cfm So, wouldn't a chip being released compound that issue further? That post was obviously made with not much thought.
Alecocr20, Do you really think Microsoft will take all the market? Please think about this... What happens to the millions of consoles sold so far? Does Sony take them back off us and say sorry guys Microsoft is too good? I personally think (this is an opinion) that in a year or maybe more that Sony will once again be leading the market.
One last thing, how can you possibly think that Sony make the mod chips? That is like bundling DVD's with copy software. It is Sony who go to ridiculous lengths to try to stop the mods being released.

Today at my local forums the link to this video popped up. It shows unassigned code running on PS3.
I think its a hoax, because the way the video is made and presented, but I want to know if you see something I don't.
I really don't understand whats going on in this video.

I don't think anyone is going to take these videos seriously. We've seen it all before. A group makes a claim releases a video and nothing. It's going to take more than a video to convince people that backups are playable on PS3.

My PS3 is still version 1.93 due to the fact that I hardly play it.
I never understood the reason why backups can't be played on it.
Does it have to do with the firmware or something else?

I beg to differ with your last statement Edgewise. I have a friend who has found a way to import the ps3 game image onto an external HDD and is using a freeware menu interface within the external HDD. He currently has 30 titles that all work perfectly. I bought a ps3 last week and I will post all the datails of the mod as soon as mine is successfully completed.

I do not believe this....... Why do you have to wait to post the details??? See this is what is wrong with everyone who claims they have a way to play backups... They always tell about how they do it, but cant ever prove it...

I agree with you 100% Jlhfit, people will keep claiming these rediculous things, there will be a way to play backups some time this year, but as of now there is no possible way of playing backups.
I guess some people dont understand the thread title.
