Right, sorted.

Turns out I was right - there wasn't enough charge from the AAA batteries in the HotWire to power it.

What exactly is the point in supplying near enough dead batteries with a product? It's just asking for trouble...

Just thinking to myself, it might be worthwhile for someone to edit the original post for the benefit of users of the HotWire to replace the AAA batteries supplied with it before use.

Are you sure that link is to the right card? You should be using a MS Duo (Or even a Duo Pro). But A M2(Micro?)...would that even fit in the PSP?

Also, does your XP have .Net installed? I'm not sure why/where I read about needing a certain version of .Net installed, but it couldn't hurt, right?

On a different note: I tried making a MMS on Vista with UAC turned off, for some reason I couldn't even get past the card recognition stage of the process, I was stuck at 0%.

My problem's sorted now, but thanks for your concern lol :)

Yes, the M2 does fit in the PSP, it comes with an adapter the size of a standard pro-duo which it slots into.

Does the power light actually blink green with a pandora battery in service mode, or is it steady green?
Mine didn't work either without a full charge for the first time, I dunno why but even if u have the PSP plugged in if the battery isn't charged the memory stick won't load a the way. And mine when it read the green went on the whole time, it didn't blink at all

the battery light never blinks during the process.

also, the installer will fail to run if the battery is under 75%. it's a safety feature. that's why you need to have the battery fully charged AND plugged into the charger during the process.

To be fair, I only came to realise that it's a safety feature AFTER I got the thing working. Besides, it's was down to sheer fluke that I realised the HotWire was low on battery power - I just assumed that the blinking light meant more than just low power in this case.

The instruction sheet that came with the Hotwire was INCREDIBLY basic, saying little more than how to turn the thing on.

I also, perhaps stupidly assumed that the pack of sealed batteries supplied with the Hotwire itself were fresh and fully charge.

You could, but you'd need to modify it physically, and there's a VERY high probability you'll actually damage it severely unless you know what you're doing.

Either of the datel batteries that boot to service mode are very cheap, the one I got cost me just over £10 which is ALOT less than you'd be paying for a replacement slim battery if you cause it irreversible damage.

the power led stays green, only wlan and ms leds blink, and no,those batteryes i assume have even pore power than needed, becouse simple batteryes have 3.6 volts, and hot wire has 3 aaa batteryes with 1.5 volts on each, that means 1.5x3=4.5volts.the hot-wire produces even more power than needed(i have no idea why psp doesnt crash and burn whith so much power)

it will. Same guide, hence "universal".

I've tried this guide on 5 psp, 2 slim, 3 phat, all worked.

you need both the battery and magic memory stick. they won't work without eachother.

yes you will need the datel battery either way. I would actually recommend the datel bettery service tool instead, works like a charm and you don't have to wait for the battery to charge, it uses your battery. After you're done with the first part of the unbrick just turn the battery back to normal.

If you're getting a green light and blank screen for a couple of second before the PSP shuts down, I believe that is the classic case of a bricked PSP. So you are going to need to go the Pandora & MMS way. It's either that or just buy a whole new PSP. Sorry.

Excellent guide in the OP.

Purchased a used silver slim, updated to OFW 3.93, and using the guide's tools and a phat modded battery (Ben Heck method) I now have CFW 3.90M33-2 running. All updates done on a Windows XP machine.

Absolutely everything went off without a hitch, instructions were clear and concise.

Admittedly I was nervous at first, but the installers took care of EVERYTHING.

Thank you very much!
