Nope, you can jump straight to it.

Go here and download this UPDATE folder and put it in PSP>GAME. WARNING THIS WILL! Jump you to 4.01 M33-2! Follow the instructions on the screen (its the only text on the screen, kinda hard to miss) and viola! 4.01 M33-2! Enjoy!

NOTE: I, nor afterdawn.com, are responsible for your own ignorance on doing this which, IF DONE WRONG, WILL brick the PSP. If done correctly, it will just appear as normal.

Yes, you can get a virus. Its known as the Trojan.PSPBrick, it was discovered in October 05. This code deletes important files found in flash0 leading to a brick. Back then Pandora did not exist so those who got infected were literally crying because there was no fix. Many other viruses exist, a PSP virus scanner also exists that can scan eboots for malicious code. The only real way to obtain a virus is by downloading or visiting non-trusted sites. Only download content that you trust. To be on the safe side, visit sites you would normally visit using your PC. If your virus scanner doesn't report an alert message, your good to go.

It may. Theres no clear-cut decicision if it can or not, there might be some issues, there might not be. Its all chance of luck. If it doesn't work on vista, you can always go down to the library and use their computer. As long as you don't leave the files on it, I don't think they actually care. But I don't know, seeing as how I don't personnally know you or your area, if your local library is running XP or Vista. But I DO know that it works on Windows XP Service Pack 3 with very little flaws. I used a different tutorial though, it was almost the same as this except it was a video of making a pandora (hard-mod and soft-mod), Making the pandora, and actually putting the Custom Firmware 3.71 M33 on your PSP. Though it doesn't show what to do to update the CFW. That was my issue (that and plugins).

When I go to create the magic memory stick it seems to skip a couple of stages - after verifying the card, I don't get asked to confirm formatting, and after the files are installed, I don't get the screen asking me to confirm. Now I don't know if these are important or not and if it makes a difference, but I'm playing it safe and would just like some confirmation :p

I'm using a Sandisk 2gb card if that matters, and have tried it on both Vista and XP computers.

Its not your MS so, don't worry. Its just the program. It has a few flaws in the programing.

Thanks, I didn't see that. Think I looked through up to about page 4, realised how long it was, and gave up :)

However, I can't find anywhere to get this "msinst.exe" file. Do you have a link for it?

Maybe after 57 pages everyone should stop answering question because of how long it is. The past post are there for a reason so read them. Even if there is 57 pages of them.

The kernel setting for the GAME folder will have no effect on an ISO.

Make sure you have a folder in the root named ISO.

Place the ISO game file in that ISO folder.

If you still have issues go HERE and follow these steps and see if it makes a difference.
