I dont get it. what do i have to do to get an enlish backup of SSBB melee to work. Whats so special about this game? is it another security thing from nintendo? why is it so complicated for ppl to burn. please explain.

yep official. My retail copy of SSBB has unable to read disk error... i hope there is a fix around this. I buy all my games still but like having the wii key. Is my only option to remove the wii key to play this game and other upcoming duel layer?

Wiikey can not read original dual layer.. it can read backup dual layer. So obtain a backup copy and burn it. Wiikey team dissapeared so dont expect them to come up with a fix.

aww man this is the worst news ever. I had Brawl pre-ordered god knows how long ago. Now this crap is happening. Anyone know a quick and ez way to disconnect the wiikey? Would I need a triwing screwdriver?

sigh... same problem as many others. won't read original us version. will read backup of japanese dvd9. i have a 50 dollar coaster. :-( i guess i will sell it on craigslist or something since supply will be short as of tomorrow most likely. so there is no easy way to unhook the wiikey? i would like to do the switch thing, but know i would mess it up. :-( oh man... sigh... i hope the wiikey team pokes its head out of whatever hole it is hiding in and offers a solution. :-( this is a sad day...

sigh... i don't mean literally hiding. but i don't see any official news from themabout any of this... i heard they have been laying low because they were taking some heat dealing with legality and whatnot. all i have to go on is heresay basically but i have seen or heard neither hide nor hair of them since we all started having bproblem with dual layer discs a month ago. :-(

hopefully some of you have fast internet connections..i suggest you to wait for the backup version of brawl to download. If you try the switch thing, it is difficult and you might break it if you dont have a lot of experience

who ever thought, we have chips in our system to play back up or burned copies, but we are buying origninals that dont work and are forced to download rips....its kinda ironic when you think of it.

Consider this official confirmation, without shadow of a doubt. The wiikey has an issue with Brawl. Too many people are having the problem with the chip, myself included, the SAME problem, for it to be random occurance.

is this with Retail or Backup? has anyone been able to back it up ? because i want to rent it so i can do it but since no one can prove that backing it up works i will wait a lil while

UPDATE:
So I have burnt the game. I performed the system update online through the settings. Loaded the disk. It started to do the update (10 sec), then showed SSBB brawl logo in the game box in the upper left corner. Clicked on it to start the game. I got a black screen that said loading... Then it asked to make a save file. I said yes.. Then I got nothing but a white screen...
Used Verbatim dvd+r DL burnt at 1x. (Don't have -r)

And as a side note, lets not be so hard on Wiikey people -yet-. I'm pretty sure the team is out of the United States, and they had to order a copy from Japan when the first problem happened. This is a unique situation, where they can't just download a copy of a game to bug test. Give them a chance to resolve it before we start complaining.
In the mean time, I propose we act like civilized people.

No, +R is fine and is actually preferred over -R (atleast when dealing with dual layers).
I want to know what update is on the US version of brawl, is it the same numerical version, did you try to update with the disc?

It is not just the Wiikey. People WITHOUT modchips are having problems too. Nintendo is aware of their problem and has a repair service at their site: support.nintendo.com
Dunno what'll happen to your Wiikey when they clean the lens though.
Again: The Wiikey is NOT the culprit, a dirty lens is!

Should I have updated via the disk. I updated online. Should that make a difference??
How would I know if I have Jap save files?? I purchased the wii with wiikey used from Craigslist $300. Every single game I have backed up works including smg..No dup channels, I can access every feature on the system. I have not played a download, out of region version of SSBB. Not sure if the guy I bought it from did..Don't think a torrent was out yet, but I am not positive.
The iso is the correct size.
What am I missing??
I should have my other wii back by Wed with the d2 pro installed. Hopefully that one will work.

Hey can any one pm me with the info on playing the (J) version of brawl on my wii-u, newest update, don't care if i get dupe channels, also i don't have dual layer discs.
Do i need to have a DL disc to play the game or can i use the Sony Dvd-r that iv used for all my other games?
Iv read around and cant find a simple guide to doing this with my set up.

I have gone back and reread part of the thread..
J version you are doing the disk swap between DVD5 and DVD9 to get the dvd9 to work. Correct?
Maybe that is what I need to do with the US version. Can someone help me out and give me steps to use IMG Burn to break the layers and burn the first layer on a dvd5??
