I cant find the torrent you're talking about. I'm not even finding any torrents claiming to be SSBB US copies.
EDIT: I found it but it dosent seem to have any seeds so I cant confirm if it works. It does quote people from this forum in the discription though...

Cecy: have you tried the layerbreak trick yet?

My file is the correct size and shows up in the channel so I don't think it is the dump.
I have given you the information you need, so don't be a tool about it.
Try using IMGBurn and set the layer break to 2084960.

Do this by opening IMGBURN, select to write iso to DVD, select DVD9, click in TOOLS, SETTINGS->Write->Layer Break->User specified and type 2084960

Then burn at 4X speed if media is compatible.
I don't see the option to select dvd 9.. I just updated to the newest version IMG Burn. Please tell me where to look :) or what version you have and I will DL the program again. In the mean,I have finally gotten around to burning the iso again. This time on Memorex+R DL at 2.4x speed. I keep you posted on my progress.

yeah i did the 15% method. no dual channels but i have the same problem, it sounds like my wii is eating my retail disc. it's a system problem that nintendo won't man up and admit to. i have seen a system untouched not work with smash.

Just ignore the DVD9 part all you need to follow is the part to specify the layer break.

You also might want to booktype the DVD=R DL to DVD-ROM if possible.

Couple questions... If I had ripped the game(I bought it)....

Which brand of dual layered DVDs do I use?
Do I get R+, R- or just R?
What speed?
Do I have to change any settings in Image Burn?

Thanks a bunch.

heres the basic steps I did.
Turn on wii.
get to channels screen.
Put in backup copy of game.
Game will not load.
Went to mail and clicked the little letter about there being the 3.2 update out.
Clicked update in that message, the update ran and the wii reset.
Once it booted back to the channels screen and now instead of nothing in the game channel, "system update" or something to that effect is displayed in the game channel.
Click game channel and it says that "in order to play this game you must update" so I clicked and proceeded with the update. The progress bar moved quickly and it was all done in about 30secs. The wii then soft reset again, and booted to the channel screen again, but this time SSBB was in the game channel. started the game, got the black screen where you setup the gamesave file, then it went to a white screen (like happened to the other guy) and it sat there for maybe 8seconds and then proceeded to the opening cinema...then another 8sec white sceen and I was at the opening screen where you choose what type of battle (vs or single or mission, etc)

All silver disk, purple write surface. Top of disk says at the top
DVD+R DL (then under that) DVD Recordable Up To 2.4X

well i've been having the same issues as everyone here with the retail but here's the thing, I can't get a hold of a blank dvd dual layer until monday but I REALLY want to play this game.

I've dumped the full ssbb image which took about 10 hours and I am trying to find a way to essentially burn a single layer game with just the versus mode, much like the japanese dvd5 release.

can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks guys

Would be a good idea to rename the file so it won´t spread to other trackers.

nintendo has commented on dics read errors. it's a problem with dual layer or disc or other compatibility issues. i have two wii's, one modded and not modded. both don't work and sounds like the wii is chewing the retail copy of brawl. my jap backup works fine and so does my mario galaxy retail and all my others.
