The one I got from the newsgroups is 8,511,160,320. Unfortunately, I just got the one from torrents and it is the same. I was hoping that they would be different as I have had no luck getting any burns to work.

OK here is something from the Noob.

It looks like you need to do Layer Break when using the D2CKEY and no Layer Break when used with the WiiKey.

Simple.

People please read messages in this post go backwards and you will find all the answers. there is no reason this thread should reach over 100 pages which I think it will as, there is a ton of lazy people here that want to ask questions tat have already been answered over and over and over.

Stop being lazy as I and I hope others stop replying to these dumb questions. I call them dumb as once it has been answered more than 3 times it is dumb and so is the person asking the questions.

MasterC1 - while i understand the reason you posted a pretend email address, i removed it purely because some of our less bright readers will start blindly posting email addresses, all it takes is one and we'll have 100s of the idiots doing it.

as to this thread going on and on, indeed it will; trouble is if we close it, we have even more lazy posters let loose around the forums, at least this way they seem to mostly stay in one place... ..a bit like mosquito's to those zapper lights (or lemmings)

I have tried to burn 4 disc w/o success.
I think I am going to give up. Sooner or later the cost
of the blank dual-layer discs wiil be more than the game cost.
I have the USA NTSC Wiikey, 1.9G firmware, Updated thru Wii internet to 32U. I used Verbatim DL+R disc and I've tried 2x,2.4x,layer break method, etc, but still no go. :-(
Using the same method 2X w/o layer break on Verbatim DL+R on another DL Japnese dual-layer game "Teburi and Meburi" works. Just dunno how SSBB won't work. I went thru the create save file option, then came out with reading error. Ejected and inserted back in, still the same. Any advise?
Thanks!

A lot of us here are having the same problem. No one knows the answer. It is either the media we're using, our lens needs to be cleaned (doubt it) or we just need to wait for a Wiikey update, which could be months if it is anything like the last update.

You might have a bad copy of the game as I burned it on a wiikey using the wizards USA NTSC iso Size 7.92 GB (8,511,160,320 bytes)and I did both Non-Layer Break & Layer Break. Both worked no problem.(Reason I did a 2nd DVD with layer break is someone told me I might not be able to play further in the game as it might not reconize the second layer without the layer break. Not sure if it is true or not but for a extra 1.00 cost it is worth it.)

Those are the right sizes. Are you using ImgBurn? When I did the first 3 burns, they all worked perfectly fine, then I had two burns in a row that both stopped at 49%, then I had a successful burn. You may be having the same issue I had with those two unsuccessful burns, but the problem is that I don't know why they did that.

Also, a tip for you (and everyone else). When posting a problem like this, try to be as specific as possible. Post the types of discs you are using, the burning software, the burn speed, and anything else that you think would be relevant. There are many types of DL discs that are having trouble, so if you went and bought the cheapest ones you could find then they may not work.

That sucks if that is the case, Im having that same problem. My ntsc-j version of brawl works just fine so if we are really waiting on a wiikey update then I guess I will start learning Japanese.

yes thank you...using image burn on memorex+R DL dvds first burned at 4x then at 2.4x and last one at 2x all froze in the same spot thats why i thought it may be the file. also using an hp burner found out later that they had issues with memorex dvds so that may be the issue as well.

You'll probably have to run CMD as an administrator. Do this:

1. Click START
2. Type CMD in the "Start Search" box (just above the Start Button and below the All Programs menu link) but do NOT hit enter
3. At the same time hold down SHIFT+CTRL, then press ENTER
4. You will be greeted with the User Account permission dialog box where you will enter the Admin password.
5. You should be fine now.
6. Enjoy!

Getting the exact same problem. Have USA Wii with Wiikey updated to 1.9g. Updated Wii to latest version from internet, updated the Wii again using the SSBB disc(wiizard iso burned at 4x on datawrite). It just hangs at a white screen after creating a save file. Tried with and without layer break and no change.
Didn't mess around with Wii prior to this(such as unplugging while its updating). Everything else still works fine.
The only thing left for me to do is try burning it on a Verbatim DL disc which I will do when I get them tomorrow. Otherwise have no idea why it works for some people using the same configuration and doesnt for others.

Just letting you know, I used the Memorex DVD+R DL and all my burns were at 4x. Like I said, The first three burns were perfect, but then I had that issue with the next two, and then had a fine burn for the following one. I'm not really sure what to suggest. You could try burning again since I think it will work eventually, or you could try buying some Verbatim Discs (just make sure you get the ones made in Singapore).

Good Luck.

Same problem here and I used Memorex_R DL. I'm up to 5 attempts now. I've done it with and without breaks. All of my results are the same. I get to a loading screen before the intro movie and after the save game creation and it gives me a disk read error. USA Wiizard copy from two sources on a USA Wii.

Does anyone think that it would be a bad idea to buy one of those cleaning kits?

US wii
wii key w/ 1.9g update
ISO dumped from retail US SSBB with LG DVD
Ridata/Ritek DVD+R DL and burned at 2.4x w/o layer break

Did NOT work.

After saving file screen and before intro movie, it said disc read error.

1) need to use Memorex DVD+R DL...or
2) try another burn with layer break...or
3) clean lense

If Ridata is not the right media to use, wii would not even read the disc and got to the save file stage...is that the right concept?

Greetings! My first post here. I armed myself with much of the useful info here and dumped my own retail copy of SSBB. Just sharing my experience so far.

My Wii is an earlier one, bought it when Zelda first came out. I installed the Wiikey as soon as I heard about it. My Wii is VERY picky about medias. The ONLY media I found that works reliably in mine is and old stack (~5 years old!) of Ritek 4x DVD-R written at 2x. Nothing else works reliably - Verbatim, Maxell, Memorex (none of which will write at slower than 4x, not in my Samsung writer).

I ripped the game in just under 8 hours, using one of my LG drive in a USB enclosure. File size and MD5 hash match exactly as posted here, so the resulting ISO must be good. My Wii was already updated to 3.2u from the Internet.

First write attempt: Verbatim DVD+R DL, written at 2.4x in Nero 8. Performed the quick 30second update from the disc, I thought it worked. Until it gave a read error on white screen after creating the save file. My Wii was set at 3x read speed with Wiikey config 1.3 (as always has been). I then changed the read speed to 6x, still read error.

Second write attempt: Same Verbatim media @2.4x in ImgBurn 2.4, manually set layer break. Same issue, read error on white screen. I then changed my Wii read speed BACK to 3x. Guess what, the game started! It did give read error during the intro movie, took out the disc and reinserted and skipped the intro movie. I was able to play the game (solo). Then I quit the game and just watched the demo, it did randomly give read error. Reinsert the disc and I can skip the demo and start another game.

I just bought 3pcs of Memorex +R DL media ($15, ouch!) and am burning it again. Wish me luck. I have no doubt DL media sales has spiked due to this game ;)

Hope this helps some of you to at least get the game started. I'll update if I have better luck with the Memorex media.

UPDATE
The Memorex media is working flawlessly! ImgBurn @2.4x with layer break manually set. It's a 3pack from Staples, DVD+R DL 2.4x. Once again proves how my particular Wii is more picky than others about medias used, since many here are successful with the Verbatim.

Yes, but by the time I got it to work, the cost of the DL discs might be more than the retail game. :-).

Yes, but of course the retail game won't work if you have a Wiikey, and I don't want to install an on/off switch or intentionally corrupt my Wiikey. I bought the retail game, but I can only play the backup. I would anyway like all the other games I own - my kids would have ruined my originals in no time!

so far from reading all the posts, most commonly configuration is as below:

US wii w/ wii key 1.9g
memorex DVD+R DL
Imgburn 2.0.4 at 2.4x

Anyone did the above and still not working???

I did everything exactly as the ones who had success but I used Ridata/Ritek and did not work. So I suspect I need to use Memorex, but I just want to double check before I buy it...if there are other reasons making it not work.

I'm afraid that Memorex will only work for SSBB but other hot games in the future that comes in DL format and Memorex will not work, then I'll be just buying a bunch of Memorex DL for this game only, that would be a total waste.

Ok I wanted to thank everyone here for all the help with getting this game to work (jap and us versions).

Wiikey 1.9g (until I corrupted it)
3.2 U wii system update

For me to get it working I ended up corrupting my wiikey at 75%, using the 1.9b updater, the retail copy worked flawlessly (30% complete subspace, watched all vids). Now I wanted to test the recovery ability of my wiikey and I got all kinds of problems (my wii would try to eject the disk take it back then spit it out). To fix this I just unplugged the cord in the back. Then it wouldn't read my recovery disk, it started giving me all kinds of disk read errors.

Nothing worked, not the 1.3 config disk, 1.9b recovery, 1.9g update, or any of my backups. To get it to work I HAD TO get the padded versions of all these, which I was not using before (I read a few people couldn't load thier config disks either after doing the 70% trick). Finally I got my 1.9b recovery disk to work, left it for about 5 minutes, updated back to 1.9g, and now my wiikey seems to working fine.

I really want to put in a switch (avoid the mad panic of thinking i messed my wiikey)so I can just play my retail copy of SSBB and because if this retail problem occurs in the future having a switch would be an advantage. The problem is my wiikey seems to be installed using four wires, while the other two points are soldered directly to the board and according to the previous diagram I need to put a switch on the VCC wire but that is the point where the chip is soldered on.

Is there anything I can do to install this switch, like maybe put it between another connection? I really don't feel too comfortable doing the 75% trick everytime and it takes me over a week to download DL games. Any help?
