macnaxos, i have answered your other post. The easiest thing to do is to get to a pc with xp and a serial port and just use the null modem cable, the usb can be quite confusing.[/quote

Have tried both vista via USB and xp through null modem. Is cable null modem?? I can only say that that was on package! Is there any way to check? If using so and serial port.: is there a way to check if this port is functioning? Thanks for all suggestios!

Thanks but have tried this and still get the it stuck at 0% and no move to download. Spent three hours and got totally frustrated last night trying all!!!
have you the right cable??
and everything plugged in firmly?

Lads I seem to be having the same problem as others on here updating my b0x firmware. I've clicked on download and then get a message saying: "Flash Update Fail". The system then turns on with the message: "no signal" coming up on the tv. Any ides whats up? I'm using a usb adaptor as well as a null modem cable. This is my first attempt at updating firmware so any help with be great. Thanks.

Josh.

Sorry I may have mucked uo where I was posting.
I am having problems flashing my Box Super. I have rtried using USB and vista, null modem and XP. Always the same, reamins at o% or shows Fail.
I have tried earlier firmware but no joy.
I am going to double check if the cable is really Null modem (thats what it said on package!)
Is there a way to check if the serial port is working?
I am no really searching!!
May have to just buy a new one!
Thanks

Have you been in device manager on your PC and made sure the ports you are using are designated with COM numbers between 1 and 4? So often this is what is going wrong, the port you use has to be COM1, COM2, COM3 or COM4 for the Rom loader to see your box. In advanced settings for 'Ports (COM & LPT)' in device manager, you can change the port numbers if they are higher than between 1 and 4. This is what was up with mine in the very beginning, for some reason my two serial ports were COM5 and COM6....I changed them to COM1 and COM2 and flashed straight off the bat.

Sorry if someone has already suggested this to you, but I wasn't going to go through the whole thread just to check. I thought it might be helpful so I posted it. Best of luck. :)

Guys,
I am having same problem as josh81 and macnaxos.
Using Win XP + null cable to connect to Box.
Device Manager says COM 1 working.
When I run GTROM and then select 'Download' - system stays stuck at 0%.
How can I check if PC is recognising Box connection ?
They do not seem to be talking ?
Is there any additional driver I might need for my PC ?
Any ideas.
I am sure there is a simple solution.
Thanks.

Brgds,
Joe90.

Solved the problem!!!!!!!!!!!
Having tried Vista, and failing.
XP on a realtively new machine (USB and serial) and failing
I decided to try an older XP machine and hey presto!
Connected first time through serial port and everything went as it should. I now have channels back and look forward to Munster V Sale tonight!

Many, many thanks to all who got me to this point. Without your suggestions and encouragement I would have given up.
Thanks all. Best of luck to others in same boat
So.... find an older PC with xp

Keep up the good fight!

I reckon that Slitheen solution is also the answer. The older machine I was successful on had only 2 USB ports. So it was likely that the serial port was assigned to 1-4!

I hadn't read the post till I achieved success.
Again, Thanks everyone

Hi guys just quick question? I flashed my box on my xp computer no problem (could not on laptop vista just kept telling me flash update fail). Got link for this on teeoff (freewebs) gave great step by step instructions. Just one thing though when it was done according to instructions when I connect my box back I should have been brought to the installation screen to set box from start but.. when I turned my box on the channels came straight up and are all working fine.. so does this mean im not going to have any more problems?? sorry for long comment just tryin to explain exactly what my query is!!

If you flash your box for the first time it will take you back to the installation menu, reflashing the box keeps all your setting's ie fav's and channel order, some people recommend aa factory reset after a reflash i myself have never bothered and have not had any problems.

And a simple search would have told you to do exactly that, especially if it is your first time at flashing.

If it was that simple ...... having tried on two different XP machines without success. So simply (to use your word) moving to an XP machine to flash does not work. Hence the number of people still posting and asking for assistance.
But thanks for your comment!

MOST of the time trying it on a PC with XP rather than using it with Vista does sort this problem, just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it's the same for everyone else. Believe me from experience 8/10 times it solves the problem.

I did get it to work as per posts. My point is that some XP machines will still not allow update.
You just got to find one that works!

You only have to look at your own post up above to see that it works!!!! what is your problem, this advice is given numerous of times, and I may say repeatedly and also patiently - If possible get to a standalone PC with OP System XP with the correct 9 pin serial port okay, just like you did.

Very nice of you to say mate, regulars give out the same info constantly on here and we just learn overtime what usually solves the problem/s, as said you got yours sorted via an older PC so glad your sorted and hope to see you around passing on what you have learnt to others.

Cheers and enjoy the rest of your weekend :).

Good evening Malci ;)

rachmarie - No-one is getting mad at you, I certainly was not, I am more than pleased for you that you flashed your box super. Was just suggesting that you would have found that method by using the (search) function at the top of the page, for instance I put one in and came up with posts referring/recommending the use of that procedure going back in excess of 12 months.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/search/searc...ISO-8859-1#1106

Also I am not suggesting that Vista or the USB adaptor won't work, because they both do and will, it is a matter of installing the correct drivers and the correct assigning of the COMM port, but it does tend to cause people a lot of unneccessary grief/headache, other's get it done first time, hence the advice given.

Evening HiTeck, hope you are well mate, that new box looks a little pricy - but usual good update done :)

Acknowledged macnaxos - Good Luck and take care :)
