i'd be willing to try this, since I just modded my xbox and have only played dead space (passed mulleter CRC checks, etc.) and never plan on playing xbox live... even if I get "banned", it won't stop me from playing regular games offline, right? as in regular backups

Has anyone checked the new status code especially the ID code?
mine reads ID FFFF-FFFF?
i would like to know wat everybody elses say and what they mean?

I am almost 100% sure you're correct. I think if you have the arcade console, MS is allowing you to either get a free 528 mb card, or you could choose to pay 20 bucks for a 20 gig hard drive. But yeah, you need one or the other to install it.

I modded my system Nov, 18th, first time ever modding.
Today I installed NXE (new dashboard) and was able to play COD4 online (not a backup)
Notes:
Running BenQ drive with iXtreme 1.41 stealthed 12x
Manuf date of Xbox is May/30/2006
manuf date of Benq drive is April 2008
As I have not played any rips etc whatsoever (my kreon is in the mail) I assume no "flags" on my XBOX.
I have played non-rip GOW2 online and off (pre-mod)
If I get banned from playin legit gow2 online I'll let ya'll know.
I'm pretty new to this, but I would assume banning is due to the flag theory... mainly from bad rips though.
Think if it were disk-id it would have to be pretty relaxed, lots of game stores do tradeins, rental places, etc... one game disc "id" could be played by tons of different users.
However if you're playing a rip online of say COD5 that you downloaded, and 5000 people have burned the exact same iso, maybe it's being detected by concurrent users of said "disc id".
Anyways, just trying to give more details to show that what I have done has not resulted in a ban. Obviously they are not banning because of changed firmware.
Note: I used Textbook's 2008 guide when flashing with an nforce4 chipset. (to be overly specific.)

That article says basically to go to xbox.com and input your serial, and it will tell you from there if you are eligible. SO I guess go for that, and maybe you let us know the process. I don't have an arcade, so I haven't got to see that.

well if you would have bothered to read the post you would have seen that MS is allowing you to buy it for 20 bucks from them.

I'm not even home to be able to check the status, and I am guessing it might be the same situation with others. After reading all the posts from Nov 18th to today, I have updated my console at 4pm EST on Nov 19th and so far so good.
Did I play game before? I almost played Gears of War 2 two weeks before it came out but my Xbox got the ring of Death on the training mode so no achievements was saved.
I just got it back last week, been playing online, and was in fear of the ban.
Well no band so far....but I will keep away from any games before they come out!
I have a Hitachi Ixtreme or whatever u call it.

can anyone confirm any bannings with 100% 1 to 1 backups ripped with kreon? ive never liked the idea of using torrents for the very reason that people are seeing now.i havnt seen anything about reatil copy rips and was curious, thanks
