The guide says
Quote:
Using 1:1 Pal backup: Game disc could not be read error message on 50 cc --> Lightning Cup --> DS Peach Gardens first lap. Pal works perfectly with 0.3gamma even wifi.
Perfect - No bug
I think what it is saying is the PAL version didn't work in previous bootloaders (like Beta) but it now works fine with Gamma.

Have you tried another game to see if any of the games are booting?

No problem. I checked it this morning. Loaded the wiigator channel. Put the disk in. Hit Start and it worked fine. I did one race just to check a bit further.

Now myself I use Sony DVD-R, burn with imgburn at 4x for all my wii backups.

My wii is a GC2-D2E, whether that matters or not.

I played the full 50cc cup races (including Lightning Cup --> DS Peach Gardens first lap) and it all worked. Booted with WiiGator Gamma.

So I tried with imgburn at 4x. Disc gets to about 50-70% of verify and gives me unrecoverable read error. The disc gives the same read error on the wii.
I tried a 2x and the disc gave the same error verifying. But when I tried this disc, it loaded the menu and I got to the part where a race starts, then I get the read error again. Damn, so close.
I'm starting to think it's the DVD burner. It's a LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-812S US0F.
Buklaosat-can you post instuctions for formatting, then downgrading?

I never use the verify in Imgburn. Just burn it then try it. It will either work or not.
I have never had a disk not work yet.

Are you just getting the "disc could not be read" problem now or is it still that "error 324" yet.

You could try running the ISO image through Wii Brickblocker, then try burning it again.
Some downloaded ISO it is hard to say what all has been done.

brilliant post! thanks a million for sharing! everything went ok, I'm in a process to get a backup wii game to test.

One problem to point out tho, the gbatemp forum site to help people with 3.4 updated Wii's. It was great, but the files provided weren't ALL working. Just a head's up for those who uses this guide anyways!

One question though, can the backup games be played online? And will it be fine? I.e. Xbox 360 can play backup games online, but eventually people's 360 could get blocked etc >.<

And will this situation happen to the Wii? Even with just the Twilight Hack only?

It was saying the disc could not be read. But I tried again and it works every time now. Cool, so it looks like imgburn at 2x works with my burner. THanks for the help lads, much appreciated.

Hi all! Well, I think I'm all ready to go, but I do have a few questions. First I'd like to appologize, I know one of these has been answered because I remember reading it, but I've been unble to find it again.

I just got my wii two weeks ago. It came with the 3.4u firmware installed. Before reading up on soft modding, my wife and I set it up for the internet (forecast channel, news channel, and Wii Shop!). As y'all probably know, to do this I had to enable the internet, and WiiConnect24.

That being said, my questions are as follows...

1. The guide says NOT to install WiiShop, I already have. How do I remedy this mistake?

2. Are there any specific settings that I need to fix/undo in the internet settings to undo any adverse affects I may have set into motion by setting up WiiShop?

3. In order to make this soft mod setup work right do I have to completely turn off WiiConnect24? or is there something I can do in settings to make it ok?

Thanks very much in advance, and again sorry if these have already been addressed.

If you have updated to latest 3.4 firmware then you don't need to worry about WiiShop. It will be at the latest release.

The WiiShop part of the guide is used after you downgrade to 3.2 firmware. But you do not need to downgrade to 3.2 firmware so don't worry about it.

You should be set to install the cIOS and then use the backup loader.

Just use Wiiconnect24 and WiiShop as normal.

Outstanding! Thanks very much! I'll be sure to post how it goes! Are there any steps I should take to avoid updates to the firmware in the future(ex. firmware 3.5u)?

First of all: A BIG THANKS TO LARRYLJE
AWESOME GUIDE, working very well for me!

I have firmware 3.4U (no modchip) and did everything that the guide said to. I also previously did the Fix guide.

Just like many people, i did hesitate before going on with all the process due to the "brick chance". Every time i was excuting cios or wad or whatever else, i had to accept "Press A, take a risk" or like "Presse A, use this at your own risk".

All this was pretty scary...lol but well i had absolutely 0 problem

It took me couple days to read everything about softmod, get all apps and files needed to process and to find a good guide. This guide is by far the better that i found.

Finnaly, about the burn process:
I used rawdump 2.0
Imgburn at 2x with memorex DVD-R

So, again i highly recommend this guide, it does work
Thx Larrylje

ok i just broke down and bought my kids a Wii, and of course im already ready to do this mod. my question is, if something should go wrong and this doesn't work( or if i screw it up somehow), will it brick the Wii or will the mod simply not function? no biggie if i screw up and the mod dont work if the Wii is still fine, but im a little hesitant of doing somehting that may brick the 24 hour old Wii and having my kids make my life a living hell until i get another one. Im an xbox guy, so i haven't read much on the Wii. i just want to make sure nothing terrible will happen if the softmod goes wrong on me. any input is welcome, but be nice, im a very evil moderator :)

The hack modifies the Wii firmware so there is always a chance of something going wrong which could result in a complete brick. But chances of that are slim to none if you follow the guide.

The first thing you need to check is the Wii firmware. If you have 3.4 then make sure you read the part in red and go to the link provided to fix the limitation 3.4 firmware places on the Wii system. After you do that you can then continue with this guide.

3.3 firmware has 2 different versions. The first 3.3 version + 3.2 firmware places no limitation on the system so just follow the guide if you have 3.3 or below firmware. The OCT 23rd 3.3 update places the limitation on the system which you will then need to do the steps of 3.4 firmware to fix the limitation.

There is no way to know what firmware version 3.3 you have. All you can do is try installing the cIOS and if you get an error during install then more then likely it is due to the OCT 23rd limitation. You then will need to follow the linked fix guide as you do for 3.4 firmware.

cool, thanks for the info. it sounds easy enough. so even if the Wii doesn't get bricked, but the mod doesn't work, will it still function as normal? thats the only thing im hesitating on. if it doesn't work im sure i'll get it resolved, but i'd like to be sure its still going to work for the kiddies while im trying to figure it out.

I have done allot of softmods and have had no issues with bricking or the MOD not working. As well their have been allot of users that have downloaded the files in this guide and haven't reported any brick issues.

If you have modded Xbox 360's then this should be easy for you. All your doing is running applications. The chances of anything going wrong is pretty unlikely if you follow the guide. But as any modification to any system nothing is 100% safe. So you just have to decide if it is worth the risk.
