1) In the guide, under the clean up section, it says it's recommended to keep some files. Does this imply that the SD card should always be kept in the Wii for this whole thing to work??

2) How do I run games off the SD card?

3) When one gets hold of a wiigame.RAR file, it's quite a small file size. Once it extracts, it's the usual huge 4gig size. If running games off SD/HDD, do we have to extract the iso first or can it be left in the smaller .rar size

Thanks!

1) no the sd card can be taken out once everything is installed.

2) not a clue as i use usb loader.

3)Im pretty sure that the .rar file has to be extracted never tried playing a .rar file though so if u give it a let us know.

Thanks for the fast reply.

So if I run things off a USB drive, is it meant to be in ISO format?? And if so, will each game always be the same 4gig size or is there an easy way to reduce the size??

Also, what's the difference between USBLoaderGX and NeoGamma?? Don't they both load backups from USB anyway??

Thanks again

I thought the USB loader run from the SD card so you need that left in?

I followed the softmod guide. Backup wii games work great. I also did the section to play backup gamecube games. After following the guide I don't see WiiGator backup launcher channel. Any suggestions?

There is no WiiGator backup launcher in this guide anymore. It is NeoGamma R6 instead.

When you transfer the iso to your USB hard drive using WBFS manager, it shrinks some of the files for example super paper mario was 4gb on my computer, after i transferred it to my HDD it was only 650mb. Dont ask me why because i dont know. Unless someone else knows.

Thank you for those that helped me get my Wii set up to play burnt off Wii games, I have also installed DVD Dump! I am dumping a game now and would like to know when it is safe to take the game out of the Wii, is there a confirmation when it is done? Also when I went to the URL it gave me it told me I could download now, should I start downloading as it is dumping or should I wait until it is completely finished before I hit download?

The ripping will not start till you select download. When you do this it will start ripping and transferring the backup to your PC.

Larry I Just followed you guide, easiest and best one yet. Everything works great. I love it, thanks for making this so simple for the less knowledgeable. The next day afterI used your guide I get a message from nintendo on my wii asking me to update to 4.1. I started out with a 3.4U. I really want to get the 4.0 update so i can use the 32gb sd cards, for all the wad files and such. but now i can't update to 4.0 if i hit update won't it update me to 4.1 and if it does what will happen from there?

See if this helps

hi, just wanna firstly thank you very much for this forum, i have read for hrs and hrs all over, but i kept ending up back here, its quite alot to get your head round for a newbie to wii scene, even coming from an it background.

Anyway, i finally managed to get it working so thanks, im on 4.1e btw, and it works ok so far, tried 3 games they all work ok.

One thing i did find was I followed the upgrade as i already had a 3.4 or below system and I had to reinstalled the hbc, but it wasnt a big deal

I do have a couple of questions, will any of the backups ask me to upgrade, if so what do i do? just not play them?

Can i play ntsc games or only pal?

IS there any other nice sites people could perhaps tell me about? pm if need be

many thanks for a great tutorial :)

They could ask for update, dont update, put the iso through wiibrickblocker before burning to disc/ Brickblocker takes updates off your iso.

I've had most pal play on ntsc system through USB loader by forcing NTSC on the options. Havent got Pro Evolution Soccer Pal working yet, maybe I'll try a different iso.

If you're playing disc, use wiiregionfrii it will convert your iso to whatever region you want.

BTW thanks for the LU64 fix, has anyone used this on a LU65 yet? Should I use bootmii or boot2 or anything else in case I brick my nephew's wii?

I'm Just getting back into modding since the Dreamcast and I found these instructions very easy to follow. One problem though is that I would like to play my backups on dvd. My first backup was Punchout Pal version. NO COLOR!!!!! Did I do something wrong? I'm sure this was answered someplace else so if you can just forward the answer I would greatly appreciate it.

Go to settings on the backup loader and FORCE NTSC.

So I am new to all the modding stuff. your instuctions were great!
I've got the gamma channel now.

I tried playing mario kart that i burned onto a dvd-rw using the channel, but it didnt work? any reason?
(i didnt install dvd-x, do i need it?)

i have a few more questions,(im just trying to learn all this)

the usb loader is only a forwarder? is there a way to load it as a channel? (right now i dont have extra sd cards around)
also is there any difference doing the last step? and how do i know if i have a ntsc-u or pal system?

Can bootmii be used with all this to back up? (i guess i need a separate sd card for a back up?)

Do the games stay in .iso format on the usb? (i still have to load the usb package)
Thanks for all your help!

I have managed to get through this whole guide without trouble in less than 20 minutes, after studying this whole thread and other forums for the last few days.

I got this wii just a few days ago and the whole homebrew and hacking thing was daunting at first, but thanks to this great guide, all of this was a cinch.

BTW for those of you worried about this, I have a 4.0E wii and followed the guide step for step and all works perfectly as its supposed to.

I realise that you, Larry do this in your free time, and its great that there are people out there like you who have the smarts, patience and generosity to help out noobs like ourselves.

The least I can do is thank you. THANKS LARRYLJE!

I was under the impression that if you used a preloader that there was no need to update or use brickblocker.
