i've done all the mods except the last one which instructs me in installing bootmi. but i just can't seem to get it to work

i hope someone can clarify.

i've downloaded the hackmii installer and the instructions say to unzip it into the sd card. at this point, i didn't know whether it was ok to put the folder into my sd card with the other things from the mod or if i needed to format the sd card first.

also, am i supposed to put the folder in my sd's root directory or just the 4 files inside the hackmii zip.

i've done a few variations and whenever i go into the homebrew channel, there is no option to install anything.

the instructions also said to rename the installer file to boot.elf. Is this done right after i move the files into the SD card or is it done during the installion somehow.

i can't get the hackmii installer to run. the guide says to unzip the file to a SD card. when unzipped, you get 1 folder with 4 files in it. the guide doesn't specify where in the SD card to put these files.

thank you

Create a new folder and name it Hackmii Installer.

Rename the installer.elf to boot.elf and place it in the Hackmii Installer folder.

Now place the Hackmii Installer folder in the apps folder on your SD card.

Now start Homebrew Channel and launch the Hackmii Installer from the Homebrew Channel menu.

You could also extract the hackmii_installer_beta2.zip to the apps directory on the SD card.

Rename installer.elf to boot.elf

Then launch it from Homebrew Channel.

Allot more simpler then my above post.

for those who are renaming the hacks.ini, if it you can see that it says Pal_hacks.ini or NTSC_hacks.ini all you want to do is just delete the pal_ or the NTSC_ part and save it, now for those that have the file extensions hidden all you should see will be Pal_hacks or NTSC_hacks, you wont see the ini part but that's because it's hidden so you dont need to add it again so all you do is right click on whatever ini file you need and rename to hacks

hacks or hacks.ini should work.

Make sure it is in the root of the SD card.

right i couldnt get preloader to work so i went to settings and formated the wii after it rebooted it came up with the preloader screen ie homebrew channel installed files etc.
i then did the softmod now when i try to use the wii it tries to run preloader if i press sytemmenu it says coulnt find ini ten comes up system files corrupt refer to wii manual.
so if i turn it off then back on it goes to preloader screen again and i press homebrew channel i get a screen saying loading but the pic is full of lines going from top left of the screen to bottom right of screen and nothing works have i bricked the wii or can i fix it somehow?

Hi everyone,

What a wonderful guide this is i must say. I followed all the steps and my wii is now as good as a hard-modded one. But i have some questions and if anyone could help i'd be appreciated.

1. CIOSCORP is from heavens that's for sure but how can someone update it? I couldn't find the site that hosts the latest version of it. All i can find is rapid/mega links. I would love to be able to follow the developement of it and get the latest updates and keep my wii's CIOSCORP up to date.

2. Last night i tried to play Wii Chess from disc channel and it didn't boot. Then i tried with gamma and it worked. That means CIOSCORP isn't perfect yet. This is not a question really i know :)

3. I experience chopped and lagged video in Mario Galaxy. Is it because i burned it on a DVD+R media or because CIOSCORP only lets the Wii read discs at 3x speed? It's the same when i use gamma. Should i give it a try and burn it on a DVD-R?

4. When will someone program an online radio channel for gods sake :)

See you around :)))

Just want to say, your instructions are excellent and held my hand through this whole process, thank you. my wii now plays my backup wii games flawlessly, and most of them even in disc channel.
my problem is that i have burned 2 gc backups (eternal darkness and paper mario: thousand year door) Thousand year door works flawlessly, and boots from disc channel. The disc channel recognizes that eternal darkness is a gc game, starts to boot it up, then the screen goes green for about 3 seconds. after that it appears to boot normally (the opening screen with the quote from poe appears) but then after about 3-4 seconds an error message pops up. "an error has occurred. please eject the disc and consult your manual" etc. and it does the exact same thing each time. could this be the result of a bad burn? the disc passed imgburn's verification, and the file dump was the exact right size. the game seems to be working, but are there just some compatibility issues with some games?
also i was curious if i had any other viable options for booting gc backups besides disc channel.
Like i said, I followed all of the steps on this guide, and now am running 4.0U with Cios etc. any help would be appreciated. thanks again!

Hi, I went through this entire guide and on the final step where I must reinstall my preloader from the Homebrew Channel. After I choose the Homebrew Channel from the preloader menu, I get the homebrew loading sd screen with a lot of lines running through it and it's frozen. Can anyone help me, as I also can't access the Systemmenu due to the Error message

Larrylje, thanks so much for this and your Bannerbomb/softmod guide, I had a small hiccup but got past it so I'm here just to reccomend you add this to the guide: Preloader will not find hacks.ini on an SDHC card.

My SD card is a SanDisk 4GB Micro SDHC and this step only worked when I changed to a Kingston 1GB Micro SD Card

When I had the "hacks.ini could not be found" problem I renamed it, redownloaded it and renamed it again but no luck, it just wouldn't find it. Then I found a GBATemp post through Google where someone says "it can't be an SDHC card, it has to be smaller than 2GB". Someone then corrects them to say they're using a 4GB non-SDHC so the problem would be the SDHC, not the size. I was bummed, since I had read these guides before buying my SDHC card and hadn't seen this disclaimer anywhere, but then I remembered my dad had a non-SDHC in his phone. After backing everything up and adding hacks.ini it worked perfectly to the end of the guide. I then copied the contents of the phoneSD to my SDHC because I can't actually keep my dad's one, (his phone wont work with SDHC either). I was worried that maybe you need the hacks.ini file for the preloader hacks to work but my Wii is loading without the Health & Safety screen like I set it to.
I probably should have tested this before I deleted my stuff from his SD but I'm also not sure whether I'll need a non-SDHC card to change any of the hacks on preloader, but after all this tinkering I don't want to mess with anything else for a while. This was my first modding of anything :D
Hope this has enough info for you to add the warning, thanks again for the great guide!

If you Google hacks.ini preloader you'll find lots of people are having this problem, and solutions are also varied. Try borrowing a 1GB SD card since Preloader is apparently picky, also there seems to be some issue about codelines for mac and linux users where putting an empty line at the end of the hacks.ini code (carriage return) makes it work also, open your hacks.ini and see if sticking an Enter at the end helps.

Thanks to the OP.

I installed IOSDowngrader successfully (till all OKs).. after that, I tried to install AnyRegionChanger (3 times).. made sure I am selecting all the right options.. however when it tries to install the first step..

It says, its working on downloading title 1-35 V1040

It downloads TMD and then when it tries to download Title, it gets stuck for few seconds and then fills the entire screen with unreadable characters. I have to hard boot wii after that.

Please Help!!! How should I get past this annoying issue?

Additional Info:

Quote:
Step 2: Run AnyRegionChanger 1.1 M5 (Launch it using HBC).

When you get to the main menu go down to ?Install System Menu 3.2 (or 3.3 for k) < GO >? and select it.

Choose ?YES? for Are you sure?

Select ?NO? for Korean Disc Support.

Select ?YES? for Special System Menu Hacks.

After that is done you will be back at the main menu. Go to and select ?Reboot to System Menu?.
I dont see the question for Korean Disc Support or System Menu Hacks.. it just shows the first queswtion.. (are you sure)

it shows lot of text about wads missing for Korean stuff (needed for 3.3 which I understand we dont need).. you keep clicking A to see the main menu where we select the option for 3.2 menu.. after which I see the error.. could it be trying to download korean stuff which is why its messed up?
Thanks,

Thanks, Chin2
