Hermes' IOS 222/223:

Launch the HBC and load the cIOS 222 installer.
Press A at the warning screen.
Select IOS249 to perform the install with D-pad left/right and push A
Select to Install Custom IOS 222 and select IOS38 merged with IOS37.
Make sure you get installation complete.
If you do not and get an error then rerun this step again.

was wondering, i dont get errors. is it just a typo?
it's not a typo. if you get an error, rerun the installer. simple as that.

Thank you so much, Larry, I did it last night, ABSOLUTE EVERYTHING worked from the first attempt as it is specified in your great tutorial. I tried then a DVD-R Verbatim (NFS NITRO) written also last night at 16x (by mistake, instead of 4x) with Roxio 2010 Pro and it worked perfect.

All the best for you, thanks again!

yes i did this but through a different tutorial to a buddy of mines wii.anyway he updated the wii after installing a internet connection, so i re-did the mod and the usb loader works fine but now since the update took him to the 4.2 menu his back-ups nor his original games do not work any longer the only title i did not delete from this post here would be the title 250 does that title need deleting for the games to work through the disc drive or is it shot because of the update. i keep getting the error ''729'' when i try to play any game. i used differnet disc - + verbatium the best the worst like i said even the originals did not work any help ideas would be appreciated?

The guide says to delete IOS222 IOS223 IOS249 and IOS250. So why would you not delete IOS250?

If he already had the system softmoded and then updated to 4.2 firmware after then you need to do this guide to get it to work again.

I assume I need to ALWAYS have the SD card in the wii, right?
I put everything on there I was supposed to, never deleted anything, and now when I goto data management, channels and click on SD card in there, the wii locks up..

So i need to delete sonething off of the sd card?

thanks
I tried to run backup DVDs without any SD Card, all of them works perfect; I assume the only reason to put the SD Card inside Wii is when you wish to work in the Homebrew Channel (restore, install something, make an ISO copy of your original game, etc.). Otherwise I don't see why to block in this way a 1G or 2G SD Card...

You don't need to have the SD Card in for the backup launcher to work.

If he played backups previously then he can play them now if the system is modded properly.

The reason game disc don't work for some is due to the new drive the systems have. It has nothing to do with the 4.2 firmware.

What if I install this and for whatever reason I decide to uninstall it?
How difficult would it be?
And the procedure would be?

Don't do the softmod if for some reason you want to uninstall it. It can be done but I for sure am not going to spend time explaining how.

Sorry I missed the "ed" after install.
I did install this and it did not do what i expected it to do.
I want to play some pal games on a ntsc console. I can get the games to load but they are in black and white, it is the same with gecko. So at this time i would like to uninstall and maybe try to go back to 4.1 so my wiikey2 will do it.

Most of the games uploaded to the newsgroups are in pal and if you ask for ntsc you get screamed at. Where else can you d/l ntsc games at?

This was so easy to remove my 12 yr old could have done it. The program actually has a uninstaller built in then just delete the wad's that were installed in the menu.

Thanks

You need to force NTSC in the loader settings for PAL.

I'm running into problems. My wii is hard modded with original wiikey, but had problems with a backup of an original game.NSMB...I upgraded to 4.2 to try the soft mod which erased the homebrew channel.
I'm following the guide step by step, but the hackmii screen kicks me out for not having a vunerable ios. I have tried the fix. That also kicks me out with the error that goatboy mentions on page one and roost81 on page 15 of the comments section:

" unable to set the revision to 0, ES_addtitlestart returned -1035 maybe you need an upgraded downloader"

Which files should you actually have on the card at the vunerable ios fix step as there are two different sets listed on the guide. One in the instructions, and one that lists what you should have on your card:
"IOS15-64-v257.wad
IOS15-64-v523.wad
IOS36-64-v3351.wad

So you should have (all in the root) of the SD Card...

private
boot.dol
boot_DOP_IOS_MOD.dol
IOS15-64-v257.wad
IOS15-64-v266.wad *
IOS36-64-v3094.wad *"

Did anyone actually figure this out? I have used two different mem cards now with no luck. Some help anyone???

IOS15-64-v257.wad
IOS15-64-v523.wad
IOS36-64-v3351.wad

On the SD Card.

I fixed the discrepancy in the NO VULNERABLE IOS guide. Thanks for the heads up.

So what happens if we mod the Wii in version 4.2 and then a new version comes out? Do we have to not download the new version in order for our Wii to work? Or do we have to mod it every time a new version comes out?

I'm new to this whole world of modding so any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

Don't update when a new update comes out. Wait until word spreads if the update effects Homebrew. If it does then wait until a work around comes out for the new firmware.

Couldn't get this guide to work for me despite trying quite a few memory cards. Same error over and over. I was pretty careful to follow instructions exactly too. Maybe the fact that it was hard modded had something to do with it. Anyway, I searched around and found the guide here http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=171901
worked on my system. I'm not sure what the difference is, but thanks for your help.
