I was looking for a way to backup my sons games, he's autistic and doesn't take the best care of them, After reading the information in this guide I ordered an LG GDR-Portable 2.0 USB Slim Drive from . A few days later, an HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR8082N0106 came is the mail.

The problem was that the drive would give me the "error, you my have a faulty drive" message every time I put a Wii disc in the unit.

Wii discs are not readable in any DVD drive because they
do have an encoding scheme that differs from the DVD specification.
Even on "HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR8xxxx" DVD drives Wii disks are
not readably by default. These drives have a feature that
allows access to it´s internal memory. Therefor specialized
software like Hektosoft´s Hektograph or Rawdump can access
the raw data with this feature and decode it by software means.
To do that you ALWAYS have to wait a while after inserting the
Wii-Disc to let the drive stop trying to read the disc´s content,
on which it of course will fail. That takes a while. The duration
depends on the drive.

After that Hektograph and Rawdump need around 2 Hours on a 8164B.
The time is mainly determined by the memory access
speed of the drive´s special feature. It may be possible
that your drive´s memory access is slower.

I'm just happy the drive works, but it takes me about 5 hours to dump a wii game. The 2 games I've burned are working well in the game play areas but in the cut scenes or better said opening video sequence the game lags. Looking around I found that some ppl say that verbatim dvd-r discs work better so I'll try using them tonight.

like I said the iso is just a bit smaller then the size it should be but it works, I did get a little bit if lag on the opening cs to the game but other then that all good

the size of the file is 4,589,824kb as i understand it the file should be 4,699,979,776 is that something that happens a lot?
4,589,824kb = 4,699,979,776 do the math 1kb=1024 bytes

4699979776 / 1024 = 4589824

"ok after reading a few different websites is it possible to just get the right drive dump and burn and just play the game with out any kind of mod to your console"

NO. read again. Hardmod or softmod. You must have one or the other (or both)

"I mean if I have to mess with modding I aint gonna buy the lg drive and just forget about backing up"

OK, then just forget about backing up.

Just create a backup from the backup using imgburn, then reburn the ISO.

Hey everyone...
need help! Been backing up my games for a while now and never had a problem until now. I have a hardmod and I recently backed up newer games like Madden 10 and Punch Out. As soon as I pop the back-up in, it tells me I have to update the Wii. Then the game just keeps "loading" and nothing happens. Any ideas?

ok so

Metroid Prime: Trilogy is a single dual-layer disc or so I just found out. How can I back this game up please.
I'm using Rawdump 2.0 with an
HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR8082N0106 to read the disc but the drive is just kicking it back to me. I have also been told that Rawdump 2.1 doesn't really work but I'm not sure.

First of all you are correct in your assumption:
Rawdump does not support Dual layer Wii Discs
If Metroid is Dual Layer
Rawdump will not do the job.

You might give Hektosoft´s Hektograph a shot.

That´s of course another option. But frankly

Yes, friidump is SO HARD to use. (heavy sarcasm intended)

run
cmd
<drive where friidump is located> if necessary
cd \<directory where friidump is>
friidump -a -d <drive letter>

Why not give this Hektosoft´s Hektograph crap a rest. If people want to buy it, they will.

What are such comments good for?
Flaming does not substitute arguments either.

Because you've made your comment about your preference. Not once, not twice, but repeatedly in every thread that I've seen you take part in this forum.

Your repeated comments in many different threads are bordering on shilling.

Yes this is why. This is not an argument, nor flaming.

Reading is understanding: The guy asked about

one. Thats it.

Well that´s plain BS. I do not attack you for
advicing friidump or any other tool you like.
So which right do you request to bother
me with your lame complaints?

Ohh... are you outing yourself as gestapo or something
like that now?
I do not know what your problem is,
but if you do not share my opinion, that´s
fine with me.

If you like friidump, well go with it but give
me or anybody else the same right to use other
tools as well.

You request the right to prefer friidump or advice others
to use it. So do not bother me on doing the same.

This is plain simple BS.
Both of you were not adressed by my
advice to try out a software that is capable of
dumping dual layer. So there was no reason to conquer
and abuse this thread with your unnecessary
and lame flaming.

OK, here's the argument.

Why should I pay 50 euros for something that I currently have, works well, and is FREE?

I really don't care what you use. Are YOU trying to justify your 50 Euro investment by touting it in every thread in which you post?

I get your point. I choose to disagree. I'm done with this thread.

NO, you shall not...
You were not addressed at all!!!
When will you finally get it???
And nobody has to pay at all for it.
Everybody is free to decide for himself
what he is willing to use or buy.

I remember you to the fact that
the guy needed help to find a
software that can dump dual layer.
I named him one and you named the other.
So why do you insist on bothering me
with your lame gestapo behaviour?
Just stop it...

And last but not least:
Most users are not used to shell tools, that´s
why they prefer GUI tools like RAWdump.

Yes there was, see this

You first gave your advice about the software

Dailun then replied - IMHO, use Friidump and save 50 Euros.

You didn't like that so you replied again

Wasn't one reply enough. Don't call him an idiot. Now who's flaming.

When you type Hektosoft´s Hektograph into Google, funny thing is it shows their site, and 2 other forum posts made by you about it.
Even the dedicated Wii forums have no info on it.

I would not be advising people about it.

It does not seem very popular at all. You bought it, you like it, then leave it at that until someone asks you info on it.

Now I am done.
