You want Verbatim.
Also, it's not the format of your disks, it the manufacturer. HP disks are crap; period. Read in the forums if you would like an in depth description. I don't need to explain this to someone... again.

jammer I'll try to explain the best I can, even tough I still consider myself a novice compared to most of these people but I have learned the difference between good and bad media since joining AD, first, even tough you can go out and get yourself some proper media there is still the possibility you might still have a problem, there could be a dozen possibilities why you are not being successfull, but it's best to start with using good media first, why, because as explained on so many of these threads that so very often cheap media henders successfull burns, especially when you try to burn games from what I read.
Now the problem you might have in obtaining good media like I have had here in my area is nobody around here carries ty-yuden, and it can be a hassle trying to find verbatim's also, most people will tell you on these threads if it says made in japan it's likely a good product, verbs I hear are also good made in other countries also, it can be a little tricky unless you know exactly what you are looking for, and again being a novice it can be confusing, and most of the time asking a sales rep. is a waste of time hell most of them never even heard of ty disc's, so, unless you know exactly what you are looking for the best place and actually the only place I know of to get ty's is thru the mail they ddoddnt sell them here in the states unless by mail, supermediastore.com and there are others that are good, the prices are always good, and those DVD-R you mention SMS always has them on sale, I know it can be a hassle to wait but it is well worth it, but if you want good media right now I'm sure somebody else on this thread can guide you to pick up something proper media and what to look for to make sure you dont get confused, its reading the fine print on those packages is where you will most likely be able to figure out where they come from and where there are made, post on here some of the stores around you that carry media and I'm sure somebody from this thread will help guide you, hope this helped a little bit.

OK, when you are instore, look for the make Verbatim. If you can see Verbatim media, + or -, then buy it. It's going to be good, regardless of format, or origin, if it is Verbatim.
Now, anything that isn't Verbatim, avoid it, unless, it says MADE IN JAPAN in the small print on the packaging. The only media you will find made in japan, is Fuji 8x, Sony 8x and Maxell. Those are all excellent disks, and most of the made in japan media is likely to be Taiyo Yuden; the best there is.
If you still come back with bad media after reading that, go sit in a corner and cry.
Btw, the bold bits, are highlighted for you attention, as they are important!

Just to clear up with you that Verbatim is infact made in Taiwan, and it is the only good taiwanese media. Dont buy anything form Taiwan that isn't Verbatim!

Quote: hey everyone... when i use DVD Decrypter to burn a movie (Accepted), it reads it fine, but when i go 2 write it, it says there are too many sectors and that it wouldnt be able to fit on my disc.. but my disc holds 120 minutes of video, and Accepted is only 93 minutes.. my discs are HP DVD-R 16X. Can someone please help? is my disc not big enough, and if it is too big, can u recommend good quality discs?
hey ajammer i think the problem is that current DVD's (movies) are now dual layered (they are in Australia), so Decrypter Doesnt shrink the dvds, that why you need to use DVD Shrink, that shrinks the dvd so it will fit on a 4.7gb disc (single layered). plus this is a forum for backing up ps2 games, not movies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have also got ot remember that there are extra's on dvd's (e.g delted scenes, etc.) so that takes up extra room. :( but yeh also get good media, like Ripper was saying :o!!!! i hop i was some assitance. thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Ok let's say I use swap magic or a modchip, is it safe,
because my friend's PS2 broke down after three years, and when he took it to service, they told him that some chips were burn due to swap magic. What do you think

@rausted
swap magic shouldn't hurt the ps2 any more than watching movies playing games or playing audio cds, there are some versions of the ps2 with not so good lasers, my guess is that the ps2 was just over used, if it is because of the mod chip well those can produce more electrical problems then a disc could
FYI: when you take anything to get serviced you never tell them that you were using it "incorrectly" you just say it stopped working, if sony is trying to fix it they will use any info to get you to cover the tab, if it is getting fixed by a 3rd party and its not warranty work then spill the beans if you like
@bidz
DO NOT use RW discs use -R, if not use +R and make sure they are good quality i.e. TAIYO YUDEN or VERBATIM(verbs are available at most major brand stores)
and make sure you burn at 4x(or half the disc speed)
can anybody say BROKEN RECORD

problems, when you say dont say anything to sony repair service pretty much thats a no brainer, good advise, but this mod chip thing which I really dont know much about, from what I understand you need a mod-chip installed to view the games, but if you bring it in to sony for repair do you leave a mod-chip in or take it out if thats feasable, like you said they will use any excuse to nail you for the service charge.

i wouldnt send it to sony with a chip but the warranty seal is already broken and they will be able to tell if a chip was installed
the chip lets you auto boot backups swap magic just makes you boot swap disc first and then the backup so it is a little more physical work but it is cheaper, chips are hard to install and tend to be pricey, and if you mess up the install you could also ruin your ps2, the choice is really up to you
But swap magic is safe
mod chip safe if proper install and use

ok undersatnd, also, what is the difference between swap and mod, and if swap is safer why even mess with mod, unless mod has more or better options.

the only difference between swap magic and modchips is that swap magic, the toc must be under 4.37gb, and modchips dont have a barrier, they will play 4.7gb games! ;)

that ^ and that some modchips do not require any swapping.
plz note i say some, others require you to do the swapping, which is just a waste of money and the possiblity of screwing up ur PS2

So I guess its safe to say use memorex, they are pretty good quality dvd's and they are cheap in price!
I agree :)
another good disc that works in all of the above in quote, is Maple Serial DVD+R 8x and 4x :-)

You know what i just found out? Using memoshit will break you PS2 laser, sure they will work at first, after a while of plaing, your ps2 laser will melt off. yeah thats right melt off. go ahead and use memorex and some other piece of doo doo brand dvd and melt your laser off, when your ps2 shows up as no data and nothing recognizes, dont come crying to us about it wont read, or it wont play. if you read, then you will know, but obviously Grube, your blind, lay off the porn.
Peen!

You may agree, but that merely proves you two know absolutely nothing about dvd media and dvd lasers and how disks are made and how long they take to deteriate etc etc
If you knew you're facts, then you'd know they're cr@p, otherwise don't post.
