It is basically like that, just with more swapping involved. Swap magic is a much simpler alternative.

swapmagic tends to hate CB and AR max, altho it can work with AR max.

anyone think the Mem card mod thats in beta right now will work better?

The other being freevast I believe.
Quote from their site:
"A new team of developers is now working on FREEVAST PROJECT... this project have the target to reverse the work made with VAST and PS2 MEMORYCARD MODCHIP and give to all FOR FREE the "special" file to insert in any MAGIC GATE memorycard and enjoy a COST LESS AND NICE MEMORYCARD MODCHIPS HOMEBREW complete FREE!!!" The idea started from INDEPENDENCE EXPLOIT, a trick that allow to play unsigned files from memorycard at bootup thanx to a buffer overflow found in the memorycard until PS2 V10 (after was fixed).

I agree with you ... I hope they work too.

I see the title says it's for the slim PStwo but has anyone been successful getting it to work on a silver SCPH-79001? Or any of the really new models out there?

Thanks again, and sorry if this is a silly question.

You need action replay. Action replay has the media player that you have to use for this exploit.

Yo everyone ok.. i'm new to the exploit thing for ps2 put after 2 days of reading i got must of it down...

now i found a very simple way to load cogswap.elf (maybe other elf later) using only a ps2 cd (like gameshark 2 v1.3) for a slim ps2 and a fat ps2.

ok for the fat ps2 it wasn't created by me someone else sorry i can't remember were i found it but it isn't mine...

First Off don?t do this if you are afraid to take the cover off your ps2, as if you break it I am not responsible.

Ok, I decided to write this because if you are like me and you wanted to do the exploit install, but don?t have a Swap Magic Disk set Or A Mod Chip Or the Action Replay Then This Tutorial May Help You

Things You Will Need:
Exploit Files...
A PS2 CD Based Game...
Blank CD's...
a Philips Screwdriver...
a Knife...
Isobuster...
Burning program Alcohol 100%...

Have All That Then Lets Get Started:
First Before You Continue Pop Your Original PS2 Game In Your Computer And Open up Isobuster make sure the SLUS,SLES,SCES, Or boot file is close to the last file on the cd(a Very High LBA) If Not Then This Will Not Work The Location Matters Because We Will Be Swaping Out CDs and We Need To Know When It Is Going To Load This File as Iv Seen the PS2 Loads like this:
Reads Bootsector...
Reads TOC..
Searches For Boot File ie.....SLUS_209.09 or whatever...
Verifys Bootsector...
Loads Boot file ie.....SLUS_209.09 or whatever...

So If Your Boot File Is located Close to the bootsector we wont beable to tell when the ps2 looks for it or loads it
BUT!!! if the boot file is located on the outside of the cd then we can see the laser jump to it and that tells us when to change the cds as we can see when the laser is heading to the boot file

Ok If You Have Your PS2 Cd Based Game (I Used an Original Gameshark As The Boot File is The Last File On The CD) Get The Boot File LBA Using ISO Buster Just Open Isobuster Then Look For A File Named SLUS_xxx.xx, SLES_xxx.xx, SCES_xxx.xxx where the xxx.xx will be numbers and the will be your boot file. Right Click the Volume Label in the Left Hand Column (will have a red iso picture beside it) And Click Extract Save to What Ever Folder You Desire. Then Right Click On The Volume Label Again And Choose folder tree and file Information then click list Tree Info In Txt File Then Click LBA,File it will save a text document named FILELIST.TXT in what ever folder you choose

Now go to the directory you saved your game files from that has your boot file in it and paste a copy of the cogswaploader elf file in it right click on your boot file and go to rename - copy and then delete it now go to your cogswap.elf or what ever it is named and right click and go to rename - paste now your cogswaploader elf file should be renamed to the same name as your boot file you have just deleted

Now To Make The CD:
Open CDGEN and add all the files in the order they appear in the FILELIST.TXT File that Isobuster Created When Your Are Done adding the files change the lba of your boot file to the lba in the Filelist.txt so it matches the same location as on the original cd after you have all your files added and in the proper order make an iso image and burn it with a burning program of your choice

now you can delete all the files you have created and ripped from you PS2 cd you do not need them anymore

Make Your Exploit cd but one of the tutorials on here I am not going to go into details on how to make one as it is simple when you are done doing this burn the image on a cd and label it EXP install

Now We Have 2 Burned CD's and Our Original PS2 CD We Had Copied And Hacked
So Now Is The Fun Part

Take The Screws Out Of The Bottom Of your PS2 and pull the cover off making sure not to pull out the power/eject ribbon cable as is plastic bracket is screwed down to the top of the case for the plugs guarding the screws in the bottom use the knife you got to remove them just ry up a little from one of the corners of the plug

Now Your PS2 has its case off with the Power/eject button (still Attached to The Ribbon Cable and PS2 Body) hanging out so now you take your screwdriver and remove the 4 screws for the drive cover out remove the drive cover top and remove the cog from the drive cover now we are all set to install our exploit

With you ps2 hooked to a tv and powersource pop the ps2 Orignal We Used into the drive and place the cog on the top of the cd to hold it in place and get ready this part goes fast

Power On The PS2 The CD Will Spin Up Fast About 8X or So have you cd's We Burn Ready
Watch The Laser read The Cd a Couple Of Time by letting it oad then reseting it till you get the hang of it

REMEMBER!!!

You Only Need To Swap When It Reads The Boot File No Other Time So Since We Know Our Boot File Is The Last File On The CD The Laser Will Jump All The Way To The End Of The CD Before The PLaystation 2 Logo Apears On The Screen We Need To Swap The Orignal Cd For Our Burnt Cd1 Before It Loads This File so here is the process

Pop In The Orignal CD
Power On The PS2
Right Before The PS2 Loads The Boot File At The End Of The CD Swap To the Burnt CD We Made(not the exp install) it will load the boot file we made then try to jump all the way back to the begining to verify the boot sector swap back to the orignal before this happens
after it reads the verifys the boot sector it will jump back to the boot file we yet agian need to swap to the burnt cd long enugh for it to load the file we made then swap back to the orignal ps2 cd as soon as it is done so it can read the boot sector one last time.

CogSwap Loader Should Now Be Running on your PS2 Screen and the cd should have stoped
Hit Eject and insert the orignal ps2 game we used to boot with and close the tray making shure that the cog(white peice on top of the cd) desnt move and locks in ok
Now Cogswap Loader Should Show A Yellow Disk Icon And Say PS2 CD and yet agian the cd should have stopped now remove the cog and cd from your drive without hitting eject and insert the EXP Install Disk You Made Replace The COG and Hit X
A Black Screen Should Apear and the exploite should Install

Now Reasemble Your PS2 and enjoy your exploit since it was done with out a modchip,Swap Magic CD Or Anyother Simple Method.......
_____________________________________________________________________

Now for slim ps2. It is basically the same. This one i work on till it worked for me...

Things Needed:
1. Slim PS2 with sensors blocked...
2. Cdgen...
3. Isobuster...
4. Alcohol 100%...
5. PS2 CD Game (I used Gameshark 2 v1.3)...
6. Blank CD...
7. CogSwap.elf

Now open up Isobuster and extract the gameshark cd to a folder...
Then right click the red iso image in the left panel in isobuster..
Then right click on the volume label again...
Choose folder tree and file information...
Rhen click list Tree Info In Txt File...
Then Click LBA,File it will save a text document named FILELIST.TXT in what ever folder you choose...

Now go to the directory the save game data is in...
Then save a copy of cogswap.elf in it...
Copy the Slusxxxx.xx name and delete the slus file...
Change cogswap.elf to the slus name...

Now go through the save data and drag all the files in the same folder...
In mine the main folder was Craxy_Taxi or something...
In it was the files the a REs folder with more files and other folders...
I took all the files copied and put in the Crazy_taxi folder...

Now open CDgen and drag all those files into cdgen...
Then go to Advance tab and click on import file tree from isobuster..
Then locate file and click change lba...
Then go to File tab and click save image...

Open Alcohol 100% and load the saved image...
Click 4x Rectify Subchannel Data. Datatype Playstation 2...
Burn...

Now put gameshark into ps2...
Watch the cd a couple of times to get when the laser reads the outer edge of cd...
Now when the laser reads the outer edge before the playstation logo...
Switch the gameshark with the backup...
The the laser will go back towards the middle change again...
It will go back to the edge again change gameshark with the copy...
Now it will read the middle again switch one last time...

If done right cogswap should be loaded...

Becareful games will become sratch if not done right...
And any harm to game or ps2 is not my fault....

So this method actually requires you to swap the games while the discs are spinning? Sounds a bit risky to me, or maybe I just misread it...

Hey, everyone, it's Ace again, been a while since I've been here, someone update me on what's been happening recently if possible.

Just to answer 11Ai11's question, I don't really know how to do it from a GameShark, but I'll tell you how using the exploit disc. Follow the steps for the CD method, but instead of putting in Cog-Swap as your ELF, use USB Advance instead. If I can find another method, I'll inform you, I'm no longer doing soft-mods since I've upgraded to a hard-mod for my PlayStation 2 in June, so it's a bit harder to come up with new soft-mod methods.

Welcome back Ace_2, haven't seen you on here on in long time. I recommend your tutorials though quite a bit to a lot of new people, as they are very good tutorials.
The site has updated which I am sure you have noticed in your account. Very nice. I myself still play around with the PS2, I have 3 of them(V14,V7,V5),Swap Magic,USB Extreme Disk, a USB hd, PS2 Hard drive, and the new memor32 memory card. So I think I have enough going there, plus I am into the DS Lite also and PSP.

Yes 11ai11 your method does sound risky for anyone really to be messing with.
I had posted some info I had found on gameshark in the 2 pages of this thread.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/571514
If you had a ps1 game, I would say try making an exploit cd installer to memory card. Then every time you boot the ps1 game you could launch usbadvance.

Hey Ace, nice to see yah again. Not much has been going on, just helping people out with this method when I get an email that someone posted and checking back from time to time.

I might just try that method later 11Ai11. I never would've thought to do it like that honestly, I was always too afraid that it would scratch up the disc too much. Congratulations on finding a quicker method that works though for the slim ps2s, seeing as the memory card exploit does not work on them. The faster, the better I say seeing as our method does take a while longer, and it requires much more patience ^^. I would recommend making your own thread on it if you haven't already. But of course, the only problem is having to time everything right with the laser and swapping the disc without scratching. =\

actually when you do it the cd slows down that is when you switch... and if you do it right the actual center spin stops long enough for your to do it with out it scratching...

in total you switch the cd 4 times then cogswap starts.... and twice before the ps logo and twice right after... the time after the ps logo is only for a second...

Your model is notorious for premature laser burn-out. I think your laser might either be dirty or is about to crap out. Do you have a laser fix soldered on your system? It's a must on a Version 12.

I used the second version, and I got the exploit to my mc fine, but when i tried to put in that disc it didn't work. I think it is because of the way I burned that disc using alcohol 120%. On the page where it says PREPARE YOUR CD/DVD RECORDER, It didn't have the 4x speed and it has no PLAYSTATION or PLAYSTATION2 thing to choose from. I know where to look I have done it before it just wasn't there. And also what kind of write method should I have used? (DAO SAO, RAW SAO, RAW SAO + SUB, RAW DAO, or TAO. I used RAW DAO. I have version 1.97 (TRIAL VERSION). PLEASE HELP AS SOON AS YOU CAN. Thanks in advance
