Thanks, I just said that because this method is mainly for people who don't have swap magic, so I was curious as to why you would post that.

No no...I understand, but lots of folks do have swap magic, but want to run an exploit. If you read some posts, some people have used SM to run copies of AR max.
My roommate used to have a slim PS2 and SM 3.3...lots of copies he ran would skip a little, or would take a few tries to work, and this was with a bran new slim line. I could run the same PS2 back-ups with no skipping or erros on my old fat v7 PS2 using cogswap just fine.
So for me to even get to an alternative method, sets me up to do more with my slim PS2. I was really ready to trade it in and go back to a fat v9, but I can't seem to run across any.
I guess I was excited from reading you and Ace's methods...which I will keep handy for my friend 'coz he doesn't have SM.
Is there an .elf file that will let me use a HD for the slimPS2??
good to go!!

@DXrules: if you have FAT ps2, yes you can use Independence. if you have slim ps2, NO. That was locked out when they made the first v12 ps2 systems.
btw quick question. I'm a n00b when it comes to ExecFTP. Works fine on a FAT PS2, but don't know if the newest slim (SCPH-77001) will work or not. I have:
1 LAN cable, 1 crossover cable, silver slim PS2, files for execftp, CDR for burning, Cogswap.elf & CDLoader.elf, USB drive (useless of course), Codebreaker, ARmax d/L from internet, & computer of course. Anyone know if execFTP would work? I cannot load .ELF files from USB because of anti-usb code.
Cheers!

I have a Fat PS2 Model No. SCHP 3900 001
I have AR MAX v. 3
A USB Drive
A Memory Card
Cogswap.elf(on a USB Drive)
CDLoader.elf(on a USB Drive)
An exploit CD without Cogswap.elf
An exploit CD WITH cogswap.elf
Now if I get to Media player and load cogswap.elf from there, it just goes to a blank screen. I am able to load CDloader though. When I get to CDLoader, I press X to play (with the AR MAX CD in) and the screen turns red with the yellow border turning pink, but it just reloads the AR MAX. If I put in KOF 2006 NTSC, it goes to a screen saying something like "Put DVDR in through EA Method". I put either one of my exploit CD's (created with PS2 Exploit Utility. I followed all the steps) but they don't work.
Am I missing something?

BTW the link for exploit utility is bad, it won't work. I download Ps2 exploit utility 5 from SKS apps and I tried to launch it and it said the following:
Quote: Run-time error 339:
Component MSWINSCK.OCX or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: A file is missing or invalid
Where Can I get a working version?

@xhardc0re and dxrules...
I think you misunderstood what he was saying. The answer is yes, you can use the Independence Compiler 4.1 using these instructions posted on the second page of this thread. This is for creating a ULE disc, not for the memory card exploit. This tool can be used instead of the Exploit Utility. They are basically the same tools with different names. You can get the link for 4.1 off sksapps. Good luck.
Quote: It means the official release of PS2 Exploit Utility has been released. The beta was just supposed to stay until the official release came out.
As we speak, I'm checking to see if that is happening to me, but it's not. Odd, and the official release is not even out. Try using Independance Compiler 4.1. Here's what you have to do in that old version:
Title.DB: nothing
Loader: Use the LaunchELF provided with the compiler or any other LaunchELF, just remember to select "Other" as the launcher, and locate your other version's ELF
Files: same as with PS2 Exploit Utility
IP Options: same as with PS2 Exploit Utility
Region: same as with PS2 Exploit Utility, with the exception that NTSC J(Japanese) consoles are not supported in Independance compiler 4.1
Extras: Keep the dummy file the way it is, but you can't assign buttons in the utility like PS2 Exploit Utility
Create Exploit: Select "CD Image (bin/cue)", and set "Installer Only?" to "No". This is a critical step! If you select "Yes", you won't be able to constantly use your disc, and it will become wasted.
After that, follow the normal directions.
@SNKCAP25...
You need to use CD loader to boot your ULE CD, then use ULE to boot cogswap. Just follow the instructions for the cd method on the first page for burning the ULE CD and using it.
@xhardcore...
I don't think that would work...you need a way to boot elf files some how. Right now those ways are using armax->cdloader->ule, or using SM. Otherwise, you are all set with the rest of the materials, but unless you can boot the elf its useless. Also, if you were to get a way to boot elfs, it would be much easier to just use the usb drive to transfer files than setting up an ftp server.

Yup, just follow the cd method and it will work fine. You might have to open your console to tape down the switch though, because on the silver slim they put a piece of metal blocking the passage to it.

EDIT:
Nevermind...I figured it out.
I just had to press EJECT and and put in a high TOC game. The disc thing would turn yellow, then purple saying USE COGSWAP. I swapped(using my homemade Slide Card) my High TOC game with my backed up NGBC and pressed X. It worked like a charm!

You can find the latest exploit utility on www.sksapps.com. You might need to get 4.1 instead of 5.0 if you have the same problems as the guy above. Other than that, just follow the instructions on the first page of this thread.

I have it all set up and working on a slim PS2.
I have 2 questions for you though:

A: ???
Q: Can I Boot from a memory card and ps1 game, like on a fat PS2?
A: ???

Good to hear that it worked for ya!
1) Yes, you must use action replay--cd loader--ULaunchelf--cogswap combo every time.
2) No, the memory card/SLUS/ps1 disc exploit thing does not work on slims which is what I think you are saying. But if you are saying you want to play PS1 games with this method, follow the link in my profile.

My DVD swap magic has recently died so I used my remaining CD swap magic with my flip top to boot the ELF launcher linked here.
I didn't use a memory card or a USB, I just used the ELF on the CD.
The screen is just frozen at this, and when I insert the disk by pressing the eject button, it's still frozen with no activity (I'm using GTA Vice City)
Example:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v204/Nightmares333/DSC01025-1.jpg
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Alright after reading this thread and countlessothers and websites. I downloaded everything. I dont own a PS2. I own a Xbox that I softmodded. Everythign loads from startup. It seems this thread is very up to date.
I want to softmod my girlfriend's PS2. She has a slimline and a fat one. What version they are, I dont know yet.
BUT it appears that this actin replay exploit is much better and cheaper than the Magic Disc method. But you have to go through that whole swapping a real PS2 game even with the exploit loaded on the memory stick via Action Replay, and then swap again with the burned backup DVD???
I intend to burn all her games on a Hard drive like I did so we can just pick whatever game and load it really quickly, watch movies, etc.
I guess the best way is to use a mod chip with out going through the swapping hassle. However, if it turns out her slimline is a V14 then she has to use a USB which is 1.1 and slow as heck.
Did I get it right so far???? Arent you guys afraid of damaging the dvd tray with all this forced opening and closing to put in a backed up game????

I don't really understand this. I am just planning on getting a Slide Card Pro and SwapMAgic Disks. I just need one thing cleared up. After all the installation is done, how do you load a backup game? Is it like using Swap MAgic and CodeBreakers and all that?
