I've been reading about your straw method to soft mod slim ps2, If anyone has problems getting the straw pieces to work, here's what i used and i've never had a probleme. just take a lid from a margarine contaner and cut out your desired pieces, now there are different types of lids some less bendable than others, just try them out to find the best one.

All that he said was:
Quote: http://store.richspsxparts.com/slpsnospdi1a.html
On the page above -- if you drop a piece of solder
where the switch used to be to short circuit it, it
should always think the lid is closed.
We sell motherboards, in case you can't get that to
work.
Do you know what he means by drop a piece of sauder? Aint sauder just wire..

Hi, I posted back in one of the other threads about the ELF files, USBAdvance in particular has been giving me a lot of problems. I have a Slim PS2 and AR MAX EVO with the pendrive. The problem I'm having is USBAdvance will not boot. I did successfully manage to boot it one time, but I didn't have my HD hooked up to see if the games would work. Now, every time I try to boot USBAdvance from the Media Player, it just hangs on a black screen. I can boot CDLOADER just fine, USBAdvance will not work. Has anyone ever experienced something like this, and more importantly, found a fix??

@cjzero
Just follow the instructions, everything is there. If you understand the English language, you should be fine...
@donkey
For this method, the only thing you need to buy is an ARMAX and some blank CDs to burn programs on. You will also need a way to swap discs without your ps2 detecting the open top, but there are many methods around describing how to do this with household materials.
@code9
DVD-R will work fine, if not the best. It doesn't matter what kind you use though, as long as it is good quality media. + or - does not apply for reading dvds, only burning them, so make sure your DVD burner supports whatever media type you use.

@fbmrider
Follow the instructions for the CD method, but instead of burning cogswap.elf onto your ULaunchELF CD, burn the USBadvance.elf instead. You will need to use ARMAX to boot cdloader, cdloader to boot ULE, and ULE to boot usbadvance. Not all elf files can boot directly from ARMAX, but all can from ULE. Good Luck.

OK, I get that. I have one other problem though. Using CDLOADER, it always gives me an invalid disc error when I put in my exploit CD (uLaunchELF, on a Sony brand CD-R). I've tried 4 other brands of media, none of them worked. I downloaded an ISO directly from the forums that had everything on it, but it still gives me invalid disc. I've wasted about 4 discs in all doing this. Any help towards that too?

@fbmrider
You are probably using CDLOADER incorrectly.
1) Allow the CD Loader program to load.
2) Press triangle to retract the laser.
3) Insert your ARMAX CD and press triangle again.
4) It will scan the ARMAX CD and say "PS2 CD-Rom" in the bottom left or something to that effect.
5) Do an undetected swap to insert the ULE CD and press X to load it.
Good luck!

Thanks dude! You have no idea how long I've waited to get that CD to boot!! Anyway, tomorrow I'll have a full day to get USBAdvance to boot and detect my HD. One last question, should I just reburn my Exploit CD and place USBAdvance on that, or leave it on the pendrive?
Thanks again man!

So you got ULE to load?
You can load the USBAdvance ELF from your pendrive using ULE. I believe this is how you do it, I don't have it up right now and it takes a while to boot so I'll just do my best from memory ^^
1) When ULE launches, press select.
2) A list of button assignments will appear. Choose any that is free. (Use the d-pad to scroll and circle to select one)
3) A list of drives will appear. I believe you select a drive called "mass:" or something like that.
4) Scroll to the desired elf and press circle.
5) You will be back at the button assignments page and the elf file will be assigned to the button you chose.
6) Scroll to the bottom and select OK.
7) You will be back at the main screen. Press the assigned button and your ELF will load.

I just put USBAdvance on another exploit CD, and it worked fine. USBAdvance booted and everything, it found my game (Guitar Hero 2, replacing songs), I push X and ..f*cking black screen. But, I'm sure there are some kinks I need to work out on my end, rather than on my console.

Congrats on getting that far!
The usb hard drive has to be formatted correctly, and the games need to be loaded on using a special program in a certain way.
To install games on your USB HD, you will need the USB EXTREME tool for your computer.
http://sksapps.com/hd/USBExtreme_wininst.zip
1) Plug the USB HD in.
2) Download and unzip the USB EXTREME program on your computer.
3) Start the program. You will see three tabs at the top: Games Installer, Disk Format, and About. Click on the Disk Format tab.
4) Hit the "Format" button and select the correct drive for your USB HD.
*NOTE* Make sure you select the correct drive. Also, any data on the USB HD will be deleted when you format it for ps2 use.
After the USB HD is formatted, you need to install the games:
1) Select the "Games Installer" tab.
2) Choose the CD/DVD drive that the game is in. You can use a virtual drive, such as Daemon Tools, if the ISO is already on your computer.
3) Select whether the game is a CD or DVD.
4) Select the correct drive letter for your USB HD.
5) Rename the game to how you want it to appear on your program for loading.
6) Press start. The game will install and you can use USB ADVANCE to boot it.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the directions. I had done that a few days ago in preparation for all of this. I redid everything, I still get a black screen. Although, this time, the screen kind of flickers at the top (like a CD would when it's beginning to boot). Could that just be a bad ISO? I'm thinking I might have screwed something up in editing the files for GH2. Anyway, next step is to copy the original GH2 to the drive and see if that works. Anybody here have experience with GH2 working correctly on a USB drive??

Now I'm having issues with writing GH2 to my USB drive through USBExtreme. I try to copy the files, and it says cannot write data. WTF!?
BTW, felt I should mention this. I ran my test ISO of the hacked GH2 in PCSX2 and it ran just fine. So I assuming GH2 is just not compatible with USBAdvance.

That's odd...make sure the iso is packed correctly and everything else.
Try ripping a different game to the USB HD instead of guitar hero.

Alright, I ripped GH1 and my GH2 Hack again. They ripped fine. I boot up everything, I still get a black screen, with the flash like it's trying to load. I noticed that before that screen flash in the upper right corner, my HD light is blinking, but after that, it just stays lit. I also removed my memory card before doing this, thinking maybe that was the culprit..no dice. Should I be waiting longer than 5 minutes for it to boot? I mean, I don't want to leave it for too long, but could that be a fix, even with all the other information given? Thanks btw for sticking with me this long. I really appreciate it.
***********************************************************************************
OK, followed all that. Ripped THAW to USB HD through USBExtreme just fine. Go to run it in PS2, same black screen.
Tried GH1 as well as GH2 again, both of them give me the same error.
WTF?!?!
Has anyone had success with either of these even copying in USBExtreme?

You might have to format your drive differently. Sorry I did not look into this more. This is copied from MasterChu's thread here:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/348187/2045632
STEP 2 - Format the USB HDD to FAT32 - updated
Most USB HDD's are pre-formatted to the MS-DOS Fat32 file system, and this will work just fine.
To format this to the FAT32 filesystem, do the following:
PC USERS:
- open up a MS-DOS prompt window (Go to Start Menu, run, and type "cmd" and hit enter.)
- type the following after the C:\> prompt:
> (replace "X:" with your USB drive letter)
- FORMAT X: /U /FS:FAT32 [enter]
- answer YES to format warning
Please follow this thread if you have any more questions. MasterChu seems to know more about the USB HD method than I do, and this is an active thread.
