@crowy.
To make things clear: I made this statement. (quote) "people are still babbeling..."
My apologies to anybody who is acused by the fact that they said that. While it was not them. It was me.
Still my opinion remains the same.
After reading the whole thread I got annoyed by the fact some people here are talking like they are experts, while it sometimes completly clear that what they are talking about is completly and absolute nonsens.
Of course there are also people on this forum who really know what they are talking about. But most of the time those people don't talk like they can crack the game, they do it, instead of talking.
And even now the game is cracked, it's not cracked due to this thread or people from this forum. (still the question is if it is really cracked since not many people were able to comfirm it)
Sorry I really want to made this clear that I was the one who said it. Because I feel bad about the fact other people get accused by things I said.
(sorry for my bad english)

PPFStudio is pretty good to look at ppf patches and lets you build them, you could check it out might like it.Another tool that is used to build patches is from Paradox makeppf which is also usefull. Then there are a couple more programs that have a automatic patch system such as DvdScanLite3.5 and one that can manually search the files for dvd checks DvdScan3 located in the first release of Apache. The newest one is C.M.P patcher v1.1 by Sonix, but we all know they had to be made because the C.M.P patcher rejects the IOPRP300.img file.So you are going to have to make them manually using PPFStudio or either Paradox makeppf tool.PPF-O-Matic is pretty usefull also for applying the patches.Check into to all these alright, plus a hex editor can view the strings also.

ALEX400,
nuff said,
just want a dvd5 patch so I can play with swap magic.
L-Burna good to see your on the swap magic case.
Would the flattened dvd9 image be worth checking/editing as from what I can make out the disc checks have already been removed?
Just a thought.

Anyone tried that guide from PS2NFO.com with the Australian PAL version? I tried and it created a iso only 1.1kb.
I tried to make a post there and although I registered it just doesn't post my messages. They look like they have posted but they just dont show up in the thread.
Could someone here post this message on the thread for me?
"
Ok I tried the guide out on a DVD Decrypter rip of my copy of GT4 (its PAL Australia).
Where the guide was talking about these files I used these files
scus973.ppf sces517.ppf
core.gt4.ppf corepal.gt4.ppf
In IML2ISO.exe I pointed it to the zajco.imi file instead of gt4_hdd.imi and told the program to run it resulted in an .iso file whose size is 1,135KB.
Anyone know what the deal is? I followed the guide exactly the same except where I used the different files. I did not rename the files that I used I used them as is.
As far as I am aware PAL UK is the same as PAL Australia.
Toolboy and the guy who did the PAL fix thanks alot. You've helped alot of people."
let me know if you post it for me. thanks

L-Burna,
I hope you didn't think I in any way "stole" patches from you or any attempts anyone on this forum made at fixing GT4....I wasn't even following this thread much, except for when I first became interested in GT4...
All of the debugging/disassem. work I did was on my own, with no outside help.....I would never steal someone else's patches and change them and claim them as mine...the only patches in there that I "ported over" were from the IOPRP255.img that was patched in the MSG2: Substance rip kit a while back....I'm actually not even sure that those routines that I patched in the IOPRP300.img are even used in GT4, but when I first started the project I started out by patching it....
I hope everyone enjoys this great fix, I had a blast figuring it out, and it's fun to actually play this from the HDD!
BTW...I did release fixes for the Chinese/jap and Korean release, they are on ps2hd.com (and should be on ps2nfo.com once my posts go through)...as well as the PATCH/Instructions for doing a real DVD9 on a DVD+R DL disc...(basically just returned the load point for the GT4L1.VOL back to Layer 1....)
The ptp check they were doing is removed (in both kits, hdd and dvd9), so no need to worry about trying to find a way to burn layer 1 as ptp...just make sure you use the right program to burn layer 0 of the iso to layer 0 of the disc, and layer 1 of the ISO to just Layer 1 of the disc!
enjoy!

All,
Just remember, anyone who is going to try the DVD9 -Dual Layer Burn, remember you will need to "refresh" the TOC with a real DVD9 game, since the TOC of the GT4 DVD9 is about 5.2 GB or so.....I picked up Xenosaga I and MSG2: Substance at GameStop used for about $16 or so each...Xenosaga Ep I is about the biggest NTSC DVD9 out there so far...
I would use CogSwap loader to boot the game, ie either boot cogswap.elf from exploit, or use swap magic, boot CogSwap loader from swap magic, refresh toc with a DVD9 game, then boot the GT4 DVD9 DL Burn...

deltoid (and anyone else getting a small ISO created)
I think the only reason you would get an ISO created that is smaller than what it should be (about 5.1 GB or so)....is if you did not put the extract files into the correct folder...
I setup the IML/IMS files included with that kit to point to c:\test\GRANTURISMO4.....you could always re-build the ISO in any folder you want, but you'll have to make your own IML/IMS files with CDVDGEn...
I just threw them in there to save some time, but by using them you MUST absolutely extract and run from c:\test\GRANTURISMO4....even if your ISO has a different volume name, and extracts to some other folder in c:\test (you should at least be extracting there), then after the extraction is done, move all files to c:\test\GRANTURISMO4...
and make sure you are not using d: drive, e: drive, etc...it MUST be c: drive....And I think people have tried to change the text names of the file locations (ie c:\test\GRAN...etc..) to point to d:\blah blah...but I think the code that is in the other file still tries to point to the original location, so I don't think it works...
If you need to use another location to extract/build, then you'll have to just remake the iml/ims files with cdvdgen..

is there any reason that these toolboy fixes that enable it to work from hard drive WON'T enable it to work on a DL DVD-R?
has anyone tried these patches and burning it to a DL DVD-R? i would, but i don't have any DL disks at the moment...

Does anyone know if you could use an Action Replay MAX boot disk - and the correct info entered as codes - to allow an unpatched backup of GT4 to work? Just thought that if the AR MAX can manipulate data in the game - number of lives etc - maybe it could be used to to simulate the patches that have been released, and allow all the coaster backups to be usable

i will admit this, backing up games is good, but why waste your time on something that doesnt work. your are making yourself look like an ass by being too cheap to pay 50 bucks. i admit this is hard but when it doesnt work just buy it. if you wont listen, just rent the game and ripp it to your HD and leave it there until some genius learns how to copy the game. till then just rent and ripp till u can burn.

putting in a copy then swithching for the real game TOTALLY defies the purpose of even trying to copy the game in the first place. it pisses me off when ppl say they swap the game with the original.well if you swap with a different original(not gt4), then u might have something there.

Bassy ... don't get frustrated. You are in the home stretch ... I had probs ... but do this ... get some rest ... get up and do EVERY step ... EVERY STEP ... and you will have it on your HD. Trust me ... I am a thorough person, but I was missing steps because I was too excited. However, my dog BladeZero told me 'Hay, follow every step and you will have it.' And I do.
It is a tedious process to get GT4 working on your HD ... but it's well worth it. Follow Toolboyz instructs and you will do it.
And ... don't forget to extract the second layer via Apache. It's very, very easy to forget.
If you need more help, pm me.

Everyone, ALL region patches for GT4 are posted on ps2nfo and ps2hd (PAL/JAP/CHINESE/KOREAN)....
Also, the DVD9 DL patch (to actually burn to DVD+R DL is posted on both)....
You cannot burn the DVDR+DL with just the patches that are in the hdd tutorial...the patches change the code to load GT4L1.VOL from Layer 0, which will crash if you burn this to DVD..since on a DVD9 GT4L1.VOL will be on Layer 1...
the DVD9 patch is all the same patches as in the hdd kit, EXCEPT it leaves the GT4L1.VOL to load from Layer 1....(of course the ptp check is removed in all kits....so no worry about how the files are burned)
