Not only do I see nothign but trouble with full downlaodable content it remvoes my inrest in gameing no used games no point in paying the man for subpar games, altho the only way they wil go full download content is if the US and japan have free basic (128KB-256KB) boardband for all
I can do that with other consoles
N64 cart
GameCube
mini ninDVD
Nintendo WII
NinDVD format,Controller inovation,Downloadable content,
Nintendo ??-1
Winner of the preivoius format war BR/HD DVD
50/50 chance newer controler shceme, more downlaodable content think of haveing all 16bit games rom and CD US/japan at youer finger tips for 20 or less a month.
Xbox DVD/CD?
360 DVD luanch hardware issues
if theres a Xbox 2 either HD DVD or the winnder of the format war,in a atempt to be the frist some error or glitch will annoying XB2 oweners for 1 year untill they release new hardware to fix it,if they have any forthought create a PC game BWC like the current Xbox BWC sine the XB is a freaking mini PC built by the man himself they should use that a bit more, definately more downloadable content and whole XB2 games as well as 360 and XB games as well ad better media center abiltes this beast dersrves a desent chance at it.
MSis dumb and slow I so see them easily cocking up the next system reelase and while they bring out a new system in 3-4 years the PS3 will be catching a 2nd wind since it had BR built in and is built for the long haul, altho the WII is the ture monster killer, becuse of price and qauilty of games everyone will have one.

In a way I agree, and yes blue ray will prove to be usefull in the long run but there is speculation that sony will give blue ray a "back handed smack" as they may abondon it and you a "physical drive". There is no solid proof to support this since its only speculation....*stops for a while* hey wait a minute PS3 isnt even out yet and Im talking about PS4.....any way Sony will find a way to push it again.
Cant wait till Playstation 26 comes out!
Peace Out!

The $500 PS3 can play BluRay movies in HD. The component connection can carry 720p or 1080i and ICT will not be implemented for at least a few more years.

I dont think any console maker is ready to go downlaod content only, not wihtout the US and japan or at the LEAST japan have free boardband.

Theres no point in buying the 20GB version at all. For the $100 you're going to save its simply not worth it as you miss out on the online capability and other possible upgrades which may come out at a future date. For me it's definatly going to be the 60GB version.

I know they say 600 and 500. I want the big boy (600 dollar one) but remember its might be a bundle pack with 3 games included. I dont wanna pay 1000 dollars!!, all I want is the 60 gb hard drive ps3 and a game thats IT! lol stores are gonna try and rape us, we all want it to be just 600 dollars but they gone add shit to that version. also is there more comming with it like more controllers or what not , I hope they dont add 4 games ($59 a piece) because they did that with the ps2 ,so I got the naked one instead (ps2 no game or nothin) instead of the bundle pack that was over 400 dollars. I hope there is to versions on the 60 gb version like one with games a one with out because november is knockin on the door of christmas these stores are gone try and screw us. lol someone please help me out, and give me a price range because this is what sony says not the stores who are gone try to bankk off us.

@eureka21 no you can use the regular componant cables that came with it and still get a great hd picture. As zippy was saying the low end one doesn't have hdmi or dvi.For wifi the low end one doesn't have it built in but you can get an add on similar to x360's wifi.I would just get the $600 one then you'll have wifi and all the other goodies out of the box.
@blacgoku Nah only one 60gb version.There is a 20gb version as well.

here is some more ps3 info. 27 PLAYABLE titles for TGS. read on
Quote: TGS 2006: PS3 to Take Over Tokyo
Sony announces 27 playable titles for the September Tokyo Game Show.
by Anoop Gantayat
August 23, 2006 - We had a hunch that Sony's presence at the September Tokyo Game Show was going to be big, and now we have confirmation. Sony Computer Entertainment Japan announced today that 27 PS3 games will be playable at the show.
Here's a list of 19 of 27 confirmed playable PS3 titles. The publisher for each game is listed in parentheses.
# Railfan (Ongakukan)
# Devil May Cry 4 (Capcom)
# Fatal Inertia (Koei)
# Blade Storm (Koei)
# Mahjong Taikai IV (Koei)
# Coded Arms Assault (Konami Digital Entertainment)
# Genji (SCEJ)
# Formula One World Championship (SCEJ)
# Heavenly Sword (SCEJ)
# Lair (SCEJ)
# MotorStorm (SCEJ)
# Resistance Fall of Man (SCEJ)
# The Eye of Judgment (SCEJ)
# Warhawk (SCEJ)
# Gran Turismo Series (SCEJ)
# Minna no Golf 5 (aka Hot Shots Golf, SCEJ)
# Ridge Racer (Bandai Namco Games)
# Gundam Target in Sight (Bandai Namco Games)
# Armored Core 4 (From Software)
All but the first game were previously announced. Given its publisher (and title), the first game is likely a train simulation game of some form.
The remaining 8 titles are currently a mystery, so we encourage wild speculation.
Sony will also have a theater in its booth which will show video footage of a total of 35 titles. We presume there will be some overlap with the playable titles and the video-only titles, but Sony wasn't clear about the matter.
TGS kicks off September 22nd. IGN will, of course, be in attendance bringing you full coverage of all things PS3.

Good article.Hopefully since these are playable they are getting closer to completion.I thinking the other 8 will be the non sony releases seens how there are mostly sony published games in the current list.
@blacGoku there not going to force you. There will be bundles but they are completely optional. If you want just get the ps3 and a game. Also don't forget you will be able to download free demos from sony's online service(free service). This would tide you over until you can get more games.

awhile back there was discussion about being able to download old playstation games from the two systems. ign had a something on this, but i only came across this....
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/13/playst...sone-ps2-games/
on a side note ps3 will have downloadable games comparible to xbox live arcade
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/710/710118p1.html
and this
Quote: PS3 game downloads recently became a reality with the posting of a job listing soliciting developers to work on a game exclusively for the PS3 hub. Kawanishi mentioned to Famitsu that downloads will take advantage of the backwards compatibility of the PlayStation family. Sadly, he didn't clarify, but given that the PSP will be able to play PlayStation games through emulation shortly, we're starting to get excited about revisiting some classic PlayStation titles, downloaded directly to the PS3's hard disk.

from what i understood about the cheaper ps3 was use the component cables for the 1080p picture till the hdcp crap was in effect, and i thought that sony hinted that they had a way to let people with a component to hdmi converter get around the itc.
and i also so an article on ign that talked about the psp being able to display rendered graphics from the ps3, sorta using the ps3 as a movie player and music player while your out and about.

From what I understand, the PSP plays a role in the actual gameplay of certain games on the PS3. The PSP can be used as a PS3 controller, but the screen is used as well. For instance, in racing games, the screen will be a rear view mirror. The PS3 can have music, movies, images, etc. and by connecting to your PS3 through a Wi-Fi hotspot anywhere, you can change what you have on your PSP, pretty much eliminating the need for a large memory stick, because all your media is at your disposal anywhere. As far as I know, that's what they've announced for the PSP/PS3 connection so far, so it may change.

well i don't think its messed up but considering their lower launch figures for their homeland and the release of the wii, it makes sense. they needed to do something there to get some of the attention back on the ps3. they had a great showing i thought at TGS or atleast a great reaction, and adding a price drop to that region makes it a bit more competitive with the wii. sorry but i don't see the 360 as being anything sony or nintendo are worried about in japan, so that is why i think sony made the move to be in a better position to compete with the wii.

I think your right, with all the talk of PS3 and the 360 I forgot about Wii. Japan is Wii's #1 market. Sony knows they will sell out here in the U.S. regardless of the price.

You guys are probably right. The Wii is the type of quirky, inovative thing the Japanese market craves. I wouldn't be surprised if more Wii consoles sold in Japan on day 1 than PS3. The price drop was necessary. But, I heard Sony did away with Regional Barriers which means we can play Japanese games on American consoles. If this is true, why not just import a PS3 from Japan...depends on how big the price drop is though.
