Great guide! I knew there had to be a way to do this with the AR MAX.

Now to get to work.....If I run into any trouble that all the other Q&A didnt answer I'll be back.

Hey all. Ive followed the intstructions but Im thinking my slider tools aren't in the correct way? I haven't used the discs yet but I put my slide pieces I made in the 3 spots it said for the PStwo slimline and when I hit power, the CD doesnt spin but I can hear it trying to spin? Is this because I'm using an authentic an original ps2 game? Im just wondering if it should spin when I put those slide pieces in with a original disc, or will it not spin until I put in one of the discs I made? Im just not sure if the slide pieces are in right :\

Thanks in advance.

This is a great tutorial, yet ive tried everything and it still doesnt work. at first i tried the slimline method to load cogswap each time on my fat ps2 then i tried the regular method. Both times i got the red galaxy screen. i looked on these replies and found that i should have been useing nero (i was using UltraISO). I had nero already on my computer (Nero 6) so i tried again. These are the steps i took:
1.downloaded cogswap cdloader and IC3 from websites designated.
2.completed the steps for IC3 to make a MC Exploit Boot disk using my only psone disc that worked in my computer, Area51 and then took the .cue file and burned a disc with nero at 4x speed.
3.created a cdloader cd image with the max media creator and took the .cue file and burned a disc with nero at 4x speed.
4.completed the steps to load cdloader coreectly. I've actually become very good at the swap card method now.

Now heres my problem, before i used to get the red galaxy error, but now cdloader just says "Error when reading the disc" (MC Exploit boot disk)
Now i have a couple of questions.
1. on step 2, was i supposed to use a psone disc, because IC3 told me to insert a psone disc?
2. Im using Nero 6, should it be Nero 7?
3. Is there maybe something wrong with my cdr disc type? (Sony) :/
4. I have a V4 SCPH-30001 NTSC fat ps2, what method is best, the slimline method or fat ps2 method?

Im burning with a standard hp dvd burner drive onto sony cdr discs and Compusa dvdr discs (for my backup of my game) with nero 6 and i have the AR Max that came in a silver tin. It has a flashdrive that came with it, dunno if thats useful. I'm doing everything in the tutorial and even deleted everything and retried. My main problem is the error of "error when reading the disc."
--------------------------------------------------------------------
i just tried the slimline method and im getting the same error as above.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
OMG SUCCESS AND I DONT BELIEVE IT. I loaded the cdloader, then used the my trigger psone disc in cdloader so it thinks cogswap is a psone disc, then swaped for cogswap (fat ps2 method so its the MC Exploit) and it worked. IT WORKS THANK YOU SO MUCH! - my explanation for this is that the SLUS code has to be the same on the MC Exploit disc as the first disc u load into cdloader.

ok, i have had this loader since january-ish, but i never had to use my ar max on any game i owned, but i hate the licence tests in gt4 and i nearly threw my ps2 through my window doing 3 of the test's for the first B licence, so how do i use codes on my backed up games? i use a ps1 disc as the loader to get to cogswap, so when i try to use ar max then open the cogswap prgram, it doesnt let me. does any one know how i can fix this dilemma?

getting the licence in GT4 is part of the enjoyment in the game! - the easiest way to get round it thoughb is to download a game save from ARMAX and put this on your MC (delete your current game save ofcourse!)... then you'll have all licences - no "cheat" required for this!...

This technique does work for "backup" games, so any iso's on computer you burn to dvd will load just the same as any other!

jjax i got to the step in your guide where you swap out for the boot disc, and got the slider back over to original position, but after i hit X to play the disc it gives me a "error reading disc" msg. When i burnt the cogswaploader i only put the .cue file on the disc, should i have included all the files created through IC3 I tried using the ps1 disc that i used as my dummy disc instead of the ps2 disc in the step before this one as well without any success.

jjax, did you yourself actually complete all the licences by your self, cause if you did, than i congradulate you, i myself would have had around 50 heart attacks and would have need to buy a few new ps2's by the end of it, and maybe need to go to my therapist more than i already do. but anyway how would i go about putting these data saves onto my memory card?, i dont have a network adaptor and im not sure how to use a usb pen to do it. and also do you know how to put new codes on the AR MAX card via usb pen?

Great guide bro. I was stoked when I found it.
I have ARMAX, the one that comes in the silver tin, so I know I cant use the max drive.
But whenever I select media player, it keeps booting to the red galaxy Insert playstation 2 disc screen.
Any ideas?

---------------
OK nevermind. Sorted it out.
If I left ARMAX to idle and selected media player it wouldnt load, but if I loaded straight into ARMAX and directly selected media player it would run.

sumguy666 - yeah i did complete all the licences myself, took an age but was worth it, it's the best way to build up your skill in the game in a range of cars and terrain. Admittedly, it is frustrating doing a 10minute test 15times just to pass it, but its a good laugh.

s33ther - ARMAX does this sometimes. I'm afraid the only way to overcome this problem is by continuing to reset and keep trying - or maybe take your ARMAX back to the store telling them it doesn't work and get a replacement - some discs and PS2s are more sensitive than others, i dont know why.

Hey jjax,
I managed to get it to load the file.
But when I insert the ps2 game, call of duty 2, it says unrecognized disc.
But if I put ARMAX in it says thats a ps2 game, but the actual ps2 game isnt recognized.

Interesting. I presume you mean it says "unrecognised disc" on the ARMAX menu screen (i.e: when ARMAX has loaded and you put in Call of Duty 2 to load cheats for it). If this is the case, because COD2 is a game that was released after the production of ARMAX, ARMAX does not recognise it in it's list of games and so doesn't have any cheats for it as standard. If you go to the actionreplay website you should be able to get cheats for it there and upload them to your MC as it explains in the ARMAX booklet.

Hope that helps,

Peace,

Jjax.

Actually I mean with use during the cdloader.elf file.
Cause you have the screen where in the bottom corner it says ps2dvd, and you push triangle to move the laser up. remove disc, place your ps2 game with a higher tog than the back up you're going to play, let it read it and then place your back up in. But If I place call of duty in and attempt to boot it up so i can place the back up in, the cdloader just says unrecognized disc. It recognizes the Armax disc though as a ps2 disc. Just not the actual ps2 call of duty game.

So Im stuck.

Jjax, you're the man, everything's still going great. I've been playing a lot of import fighters that won't get released here like Samurai Showdown 5. Japenese import games work just as well as American games. But everyone should beware of Euro games with their PAL format. >_<

On a side note: I broke my CD tray on my PS2, haha... it doesn't eject anymore. Just a word of advice to everyone to remember what you're doing has it's hazards and be careful. I just took the top case off and leave the CD tray lid unscrewed now. I swap them out without ever fully ejecting. Kind of like using a flip-top lid but without bothering to get one. It works well, actually kind of easier than before after you get used to it.

Good luck to everyone that's having problems. I guarantee it takes some effort and understanding but it works well.

if your copies skip then it is likely to be down to using poor media.
either that or you dvd drive is struggling to read DVD-R media

Always stick with either Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. I see about five hundred or so times people recommending these media brands. Remember this, though, do not buy 16X media. It may not work(seems to be more the case with Verbatim). You can find Taiyo Yuden dye in "Made in Japan" Sony DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs with an octagonal piece of styrofoam on top of the spindle(the 50-pack).

My console collection: Version 14A PlayStation 2(chipped), Version 7 PlayStation 2, PlayStation(both models), Wii, Gamecube, N64, Super NES(original from US and Japan and Mini), NES(front and top loader)Model 1 & 2 Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32X, Atari 2600, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Sega Master System(Model 1 and 2), Atari Flashback 1 & 2, FC Twin(2 in 1 NES/Super NES clone), GN Twin(2 in 1 NES/Genesis clone), Atari 7800, Intellivision II, TurboGrafx 16, GameBoy Color
