Does your ARMAX disc come with a dongle/Max Drive memory card type thing? Mine doesn't. And does it have the Media Player function?
With the use of CDLoader, there are two ways to successfully load the cheats:
1. Force-swap using the CDLoader disc.
Or,
2. Follow the instructions in the ARMAX manual and burn a bootable CDLoader.elf file so that ARMAX can boot it just by ejecting the disc.

Ok, this is what you do:
1. For force-swapping, meaning you swap the disc while it's still spinning, load ARMAX up normally, select cheats and press Start.
At the "Ensure your game disc is inserted" screen, pull out the tray and swap it with your CDLoader disc. It should boot up.
Once it has, press Eject and refresh TOC with an original game. Press X and at the "Use EA Method" screen, pull out the tray and swap it for your backup.
Or, and this is a better way because it doesn't involve pulling the tray out while the disc is still spinning...
2. Read the ARMAX manual on how to create a bootable disc which can be booted through the Media Player function. Put only the CDLoader.elf file on it, which you have to rename to autoexec.elf.
Once you have burnt your disc, load ARMAX up normally, select cheats and press Start. At the "Ensure your game disc is inserted" screen, press Eject but don't take out your ARMAX disc yet. Instead, press Eject again to close the tray.
Let ARMAX boot up again, and this time, go straight to its Media Player function. Once that has loaded, press Eject and put in your created "bootable disc". CDLoader should boot up.
Once it has, just follow the above instructions and go through the refresh TOC process.
Both methods were from my own ideas and have been tested by me on my fat PS2 console.

I don't have a Gameshark so I can't tell you. However, the force-swapping method should "always" work since you're pulling the tray out while the PS2 still thinks the 'original' disc is still inside.
How does a Gameshark work? Does the disc still spin once you have selected your cheats?

I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for GREAT and detailed instructions on installing the mc exploit.
after banging my head against the wall trying to get cdloader to boot through armax for 4 hours or so i finally got it and booted my first ps2 backup ever.(the medium I was using to burn cd-r was crap, finally went and bought sony cd-r's and got it running after a few tries)
and btw i followed the directions exactly on installing the mc exploit and after getting cdloader booted, installing the mc exploit was a breeze
I just have one question,ps2dvd back up fine, but i seem to be having trouble booting ps2cd games
is there a trick to doing this,or is the game im trying to burn just not working?
once again thank you this is an amazing guide, and to anyone having troubles with it hang in there, this DOES WORK

Well depending on the size of your PS2CD, that is probably your problem. The biggest PS3 CD game i found is Flatout, which is 725MB, i have had no problem with CD backups this way.

that is the main thing you must look out for when booting a backup,
make sure that the official DVD/CD you put in before the swap is larger than the backup you intend to use.
I made this fatal mistake when trying to boot a backup of Final Fantasy X as it was 4.28GB and i was only using a smaller disc to boot it.

well I use gta 3 for the toc to boot my backups(a ps2dvd game), when i use this disk to boot a ps2cd through cogswaploader (pac-man frenzy),it just hangs after i swap.
if i try to use a ps2cd to boot it it hangs after the swap.
can you use a ps2dvd game in cogswaploader to boot a ps2cd game?

could that be the problem?

by the way, download a program called MAX Code manager.
it runs on the PC and u put your original ARMAX disc in your PC, it copies the list of codes from your CD and the latest List from the Internet.
you can then choose the games you have from the list, so rather than having every code on your Armax you just have the codelist for the games you have which greatly improves the loading time

can anyone help me ?
this is where i am up to:
When you have cogswaploader up and running, you play a backup like this:
1. Eject disc tray normally and put in an "big"/"high TOC" official PS2 game (like GTA)
2. The screen will say PS2 DVD
2. Press "X" on the controller
3. The screen will say "Use Cogswap"
4. Manually eject the disc tray (by slide tool or fliptop method)
5. Replace the official PS2 game with your backup DVDR
6. Push the disc tray back in and pull white cog to the left to close (or close fliptop if that's the method you're using)
7. Press "X" on the controller
8. Your backup game will load as normal!
but when i press "X" on the control nothing happens
well i do hear my disc do something, but then nothing.
can anyone help?

remember that PS2 DVD (use cogswap)
PS2 CD use cdloader
to check which one you need to use
1. bang the disc in your CD drive on your PC
2. go to my computer
3. right click on the CD drive you have just inserted (e.g. d:\)
4. go to properties
5. look at the value for used space. ( this is your games TOC )
now all you need to do is get a game bigger than this to boot from.
just make sure if you are loading a cd to use a cd to boot it with.
i believe that is where your problem is frostyyy, if you are using a dvd to boot up a cd game.

well iv burned Tony Hawks 3, madden '06, and FF12. and iv been using smackdown vs raw 2006 as the high TOC game (3.98GB), which is bigger than any of those games.
also im using datastream 16x dvd+r's
edit:in DVD Decrypter under disc id it says CMC MAG-M01-00, also im using a multi format LG burner called "16x Super Multi DVD/CD Rewriter". would that effect it at all?
edit2:yay!i got a backup of FFX-2 working!the backups that dont workwere burnt with Alcohol 120%, but the one that works, i burnt with DVD Decrypter, so il try some of the ones i tried burning before to see if that was the provlem

i also had problems playing backups burnt with Alcohol 120, i started using Nero 7 to back mine up then moved onto DVD Decrypter and had no problems.
i would deffinately say that DVD Decrypter is one of the best pieces of software i have come across.
i would advise anyone to stay away from Alcohol 120% as it is turd.

Ok I'm just too confused. After reading a whole bunch of threads with different guides, I can't think straight!
Now what I understand is that for the older version of ARMAX(which I'm pretty sure I have), you put cogswap on a flashdrive and then play it in the media player, which obviously completely wrong because the screen turns black and nothing happens.
I've tried the cd method but I can't understand what I'm doing wrong, or whatever.... lets just leave it at that.
I'm using my friend's fat PS2. I have a slim but I don't want to make the wrong move seeing that I paid for it. Any non-extremely technical help would be great:)
Thanks!

skye00 do this:
first put cd loader elf on a pendrive or cd(check the arm manuel to making a bootable cd) then load arm and select the codes you want then press press start and when it says make sure your game disc is inserted press eject and press eject again(so the disc tray comes out and goes back in with the arm disc in) then let it load and your arm will load agin then go on max media player and when it has loaded run cd loader elf from your pen drive or cd and when its loaded to load a dvd back press eject and put in a ps2 orignal dvd(like fifa street 1) and press X and it should say then dvd inserted then do your swap method and put your game in and let it load and ther you go!

a pen drive is a little usb stick that usually comes with the armax discs,.
if you do not have this do not worry,
- If you do have the USB pen drive
1. Copy CDLOADER.elf onto the main directory of the Pendrive
2. Rename CDloader.elf to Autoexec.elf
- If you do not have the USB pen drive
1. Run Max Media Manager and burn CDLoader.elf to a disc
- How to run ARMAX Cheats (you do not use cogswap to do this but use CDLOADER instead)
1. Insert your ARMAX disc
2. Select Expert Mode
3. Find your game and select your cheats
4. Press start
5. Press Play Game with (X) codes enabled
6. It will then prompt to make sure that the game disc is inserted
(DO not change the disc) Just Press X
7. ARMAX will then restart (but the cheat codes are still active)
8. You will arrive at the ARMAX main menu, Select Max Media Player
If you Do not have USB drive continue to step 9. (if you do, skip to 11.)
9. AR media player will load (if it does not try tilting your PS2)
10. Insert your Disc with CDloader.elf on and when it has loaded press X
11. CDloader will now load
12. Press "O" To change the Language to english
13. now eject your disc tray and insert your official Ps2 CD/DVD which is the High Toc Game.
14. Once it displays the disc type in the bottom left press "X".
it will then prompt you to change the disc.
15. Use the slide tool to open your drive and replace with your backup.
16. close the tray and force the pin back over.
17. Press "X" again and the game should load fine.
I use this method and it has worked flawlessly for me,
the only problem i have had is the same as skye00 where loading media player sits on a black screen but i found that it was due to the cd drive been unable to read the disc properly.
just change the angle of your ps2 and all is well
