Yours? I stopped all attemps when I made mine. So no. Nothing worked. Here's the thing, I'm no longer using my exploit, as I got a chip. That's right, no more soft-booting(since July). But, if I'd try your method again, I can't cheat. I have to do a twin-MOD(hard and soft) and try your method with the chip disabled.

My console collection: Version 14A PlayStation 2(chipped), Version 7 PlayStation 2, PlayStation(both models), Wii, Gamecube, N64, Super NES(original from US and Japan and Mini), NES(front and top loader)Model 1 & 2 Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32X, Atari 2600, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Sega Master System(Model 1 and 2), Atari Flashback 1 & 2, FC Twin(2 in 1 NES/Super NES clone), GN Twin(2 in 1 NES/Genesis clone), Atari 7800, Intellivision II, TurboGrafx 16, GameBoy Color

I havent read all of the posts so I might be repeating something but anyways.

This method has worked perfectly for me. I have a first gen ps2, very early version and release in the US. I'm not sure which right now but after I check I'll post it. So of course its a fat NTSC version.

I had a few road bumps and ended up using the 4.1 version of the compiler.

Its so easy now, all I do is insert the PS1 disc, the config program runs, cogswap runs and I swap discs using my homemade swap tool. Cogswap is nice, stops the disc from spining so I can switch them out safely. I'm sure swap magic is pretty easy but this works great considering I just spent 40 bucks on the AR Max Evo cause I didnt want to wait for it to be shipped. Codebreakers was at the store also for 20 bucks less but considering what you get and me not remembering all the details about the codebreakers method I went this way.

But to be honest, I've only tried one DVDR and its worked great so far, the disc spins up almost constantly but that may just be the games coding itself. I'm about to try another disc soon. Anyways, if it doesnt work the first time, change your options and try again.

hi there, i followed your guide word for word, and i don't feel like buying a psone game, so i'm using the slim method on my fat ps2,
so, everything works great up until the part to swap, i load the cd loader fine, then i put in my action replay disk, ps2 recognizes it, then i use my card to swap the disks(inserting disk with cogswaploader.elf on it) and get stuck at red galaxy with pink border, please help jjax or anybody, thanks

Uh... Lemonyman, if I were you I would go with the fat way. Just buy a cheapo used PS1 game for 2 bucks from EBgames or something, it'll save you A LOT of time and hassle. + if you're getting problems that route, just forget it and go this way.

I guarantee you'll be happier just popping in your $2 PS1 game and loading cogswap straight up than having to mess with ARMax and it's INSANE loading times every damn time you wanna play anything. Just my advice.

Aside from that and as far as your actual problem goes, it sounds like you're kind of mixing up the order of doing things...

First off, you don't really need Cdloader.elf if you're gonna boot ARMax every time. In reality, you can just use the pendrive (easiest method, you could also have it on a CD if you want) and put cogswap.elf (Or whatever you have it named) On there and run it from the ARMax media player. Then it'll just pop up the cogswap menu, bypassing the need for cdloader.elf or installing anything to memory cards. That's just to use the MC Exploit to boot cogswap up from your memory card when you put in a PS1 game. (I still really reccomend just doing this and installing the MC exploit, it'll be very beneficial in the long run.)

Anyways, when the cogswap menu's up just load a PS2 game, hardswap with your card to a burn and boot up. Hope I was helpful, later.

hey, thanks, i actually found a ps1 game (tony hawk 3) in my basement, and i tried the memory card exploit, and it worked, i launched cogswap successfully, i then put in god of war (is that big enough, TOC wise?) and used it to load a backup of fifa 06, fifa started, i selected my language, and the cut scene started, i skipped it as always, then it got to the title screen and stopped, i couldn't press start, nothing worked, all the audio stopped, and the disk just crazily spun, is this a burn issue?, i'm using verbatim DVD+R 16x media. i think i wrote it at 4x or 8x, can someone enlighten me?

Dumb question here. This method works with Slim PS2 v14? And if so, what is the method or did I miss it completely on other posts? Right now I am using the CDLOADER and COGSWAP with ARMAX EVO (the long route). I have some original PS1 games I can use I guess if that is neeed.

Okay, I only have one of the REALLY old Action Replay MAX things. It doesn't have the Media Player, which.. Is causing a heap of trouble.

It also doesn't come with the Max Memory thing.

Is there a way to put Cogswaploader onto my memory card using this version? And if there is, could you tell me?

Thanks.

lemonyman, glad the method worked out for you. The trouble there is a simple one. God of War evidently doesn't have enough TOC to run fifa 06 - although i dont have the actual figures here i'm confident that's what's causing the game to get so far and then to freeze on you. There's an outside chance that the dvd has a massive scratch or other defect at some point on the disc, or that the "backup" hasn't burned like the original (this i doubt - if it loads at, there shouldn't be a problem in that respect).

So, my recommendation is to try different games you have as the "TOC disc" - there's a list of TOCs for most games on the net somewhere and this'll give you a better idea. I use GTA: San Andreas for this since it has a TOC that's about as big as they get.

Okay, I'm getting a Action Replay Max EVO as soon as I get off my butt and go to Gamestop.

Am I able to do this with that version, or is it absolutely imperative that I use a MAX?

ZIppyDSM - No you cannot load cheats from ARMAX and play a backup game at the same time, you need a hard mod for that, unless someone knows of a way to do this cos i havnt found one yet,

and i would just like to give a virtual slap to jjax for reccomending GTA san andreas for the high toc ps2 disc as this is not big enough for me to load Final Fantasy X and caused me much confusion and many wasted DVD-r's

if you want to check the TOC of your disc, put your Official PS2 disc in your computer.

click start,
then my computer,
then right click on the drive you put the disc in
click properties
and under the used space section make a note of this number

then perform the same method but with your copied disc in place of the official one.

if the number of the official one is larger than the copy then the game should run smoothly without freezing up.

Yes this does Boot any Format Of Game,

I am a PAL user and i can boot The NTSC version Of Final Fantasy XII with a PAL console and a PAL trigger Disc.

the only thing you may have a problem with would be the picture,

because there is no conversion of PAL-NTSC and vice versa with this program if you run a NTSC game on a PAL console it will be in black and white and distorted, there are ways to work around this, if you have a capture card on your pc just hook your ps2 output to that and use a program such as Dscaler or Virtual Dub to preview the video and set it to the correct region and it will show fine on your PC screen. (this way works because that is how i do it)

i cannot say for certain because i am a PAL user so either U or J modes display the same to me but they should play normal for you becuase a U/J both work exactly the same with my Capture Card

AE max + swap magic 3.3 = cheating with AR max on backups :3

the pal/ntsc thing should be universal.

Yes, I can speak first hand that NTSC works exactly the same. You can play Japanese "import" games exactly the same with the CD swapping mod, I've tried a few and they work great. (I love Samurai Showdown. :D )

If you force-swap ARMax with CDLoader and then swap again with an original big TOC game, you can indeed play your backup game complete with cheats.

im sure this was asked on here somewhere, but i must have over looked it, cause i cant fin it, but i have a slim ps2 now, as my FAT one decided it was time to die. so i tried using the cogswap trick on it, i know how to do it, but the cogswap doesnt load from either mine or my buddies memcards. i use ff7 disk 1 as my boot disc, he uses megaman x4. and i know both mine and his work because we tested both on his fat ps2. does someone know why elauncher/cogswap doesnt load on the slim ps2? is there something i have to change?

could someone please talk me through using ARMAX cheats with backups,

i use cogswap booted with a psx disc,

i fail to understand how it is possible to do this with a DVD game.
because if you cogswap to load ARMAX the cogswap has to be with a high toc CD(not DVD).
then you cannot switch for a dvd.
if you load ARMAX normally and set up your cheats, then when it asks you to insert your disc, if you insert your trigger disc for cogswap it just does nothing.

any tips on how to load armax cheats with a dvd game(e.g.) final fantasy X

sumguy666,

It must be because of the PS2 model that you have. I read somewhere that it does not work on newer Slim (V12) models since the buffer overflow has been corrected. Anyhow, have you seen this thread:

bagofcrap,

Do you have an original copy of ARMAX? If you do, you don't need to use Cogswap to boot it. However, in order to use cheats with backups, you need to have either CDLoader or Swap Magic (either as an .elf file or on disc, but .elf file is better). Do you have any of these?
