The current System Software is 4.2.

Assuming your WiiKey is working properly, yes.
But take care to install the correct update according to your region. Your best bet is to update through the net (if you have a WiFi connection) or to borrow a brand new, original game and let it do the trick.

Thank you for your reply. Let me get this right, first I update through WiFi to current Wii Firmware. THEN upgrade the wiikey to 1.9s? is that the current Wiikey upgrade? Thank you.
If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, then baffle them with 8ull$#!T!!!

Oh, so you REALLY didn't touch your Wii for a long time! ;-)
I'd recommend _first_ updating the WiiKey (1.9s should be correct) and _then_ updating the Wii. (Granted, I'm not convinced it should make a difference, but this way it worked fine for me and a whole lot other people?)
Have fun,

Reposting from another thread as I'm still having this problem.
I must be doing something wrong, I'm the only one that seems to have this problem.
Original wiikey 1.9s
4.2U
All of my old backups still work. But anything moderately new doesn't work. I just get "An error has occurred. Press
the Eject Button..." I don't get it, I'm doing the same thing I've always done. use an ntsc iso and burn with img burn at 4x. I just tried Dead Space and Little King's Story, both gave me this error. edited by ddp

Is it safe to update a mod wii with the original game with the newest update? I borrowed Punch Out from a friend and when I put the game in and was about to update it, a screen popped up and said that I need to becareful to not update my system if my wii has been mod. It also said that my wii could be damaged if I try to update my wii.
Any opinion? If I go ahead and update my wii with an original game would it brick my wii??

Well, assuming you have no softmod at all (which could be cause for issue) but "only" have a modchip installed (eg a WiiKey), you should be on the safe side.
(BTW, that's what's been said in the previous posts; check them out! ;-) )

I haven't updated my wii since I modded it with a wiikey a year ago, now some of the newer games are just "black screening". So read thru this thread and updated wiikey to v1.9s, tried to do a system sotware update as currently on 3.4e and want to get to 4.2u, but every time i try i get the wii error code 32007. It's frustrating as I can get on the internet with the wii and surf but can't download the update and for that matter can't get onto the wii shop channel either - error 209600. SO the question I have is can I download the 4.2 update from somewhere, burn it to dvd and run it on the wii?
Anyone got any ideas why the wii shop and updates give me errors - much appreciated.
I have changed my settings on the router - used channel 1 & 11, changed the mode from 802.11g to 802.11b and used both together - still not good. All other wireless devices work fine and as I say can still surf the web on the wii.

Well, I wouldn't do the "u"-update! It's fine and all wanting to update 3.4 to 4.2 ? but you should be careful about that little letter at the end.
"e" stand for Europe, "u" for USA (and America in general, AFAIK), and "j" for Japan. Make sure you only update your Wii to the region you own it from! Ie, since you have 3.4e, I assume you have a European Wii. If so, you would want 4.2e?

Well, I have no idea about the error codes ? still, it's strange you can surf the net with it but not update it?
But about "burning the update onto a DVD": As a matter of fact, "newer" games usually have the update right on their DVD, so as to make the game playable (by first updating) also older Wiis.
Your best bet: Borrow a (european, see above) new game. I'd expect the New Super Mario Wii would be a nice candidate, since it has just come out and is a game by Nintendo themselves.

Hi I am hoping to get some help. I recently turned on my Wii (haven't used it in a long time) and went to play Wii Fit and was unable to because of an error. I googled the error and saw this post and did some reading but it seems the main post isn't updated and i dont want to brick my Wii.
The error I receive is Error #001 Unauthorized device detected.
I have a Wii model RVL-001 with firmware 3.1U on it. I also have a WiiKey installed. I am not sure what firmware is on the WiiKey but it was installed in late 2007 or early 2008. I want to make sure I don't brick my Wii. From the looks of it, the new firmware for the WiiKey is 1.9s and the firmware for the Wii is 4.2U (is that the most recent for both)
I'd like to update them both but don't know which to update first and if I need to turn of any settings. I did some reading and some people said to turn off the internet first on the Wii. I just would rather trust the experts here :) and get it right the first time.
Thanks

I actually want to uninstall the wiikey original, but there seem to be no info on this and I'm a tech newb, so if any of you can help :) If I were to remove the wiikey, will the wii return to its original state, where I can run updates via the Internet without it bricking? I don't play backup games at all, and wanted to use WiiWare, but it would require me to update my Wii (currently at 3.2) I wasn't sure if there was software that was installed along with the wiikey that would brick the system. If it won't return to original state after removal, is it safe for me to update the Wii to 4.2 through a game disk, without updating the wiikey firmware to 1.9s?
Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest: First update the WiiKey, and see where it takes you from there. (Possibly all your problems should be gone.)
BTW, did you ever play WiiFit before? I expect your answer to be "no" (otherwise that would be very strange behaviour on part of your Wii! ;-) ). Did WiiFit ask you to update your system? Did you?

First, you have to open up your Wii. Then ? depending on which version of the chip you have and how it has been installed ? you have to locate the chip and its connections and probably unsolder a couple of connections.
Originally posted by becloude: If I were to remove the wiikey, will the wii return to its original state,
Yes, it _should_.
Originally posted by becloude: where I can run updates via the Internet without it bricking?
If all you have "modified" on your Wii is a WiiKey, updating the system software should NOT brick your Wii. So you don't have to remove the chip in order to update. Just go ahead and update. If you don't play your backup copies but just use your originals, just the same.

Well, the recommended way to proceed is the following:
* update your WiiKey to the newest version available (probably 1.9s)
* update your Wii system to the newest version (of your region!)
** either through the internet (then it automatically updates to your region)
** or through an original game (maybe somebody can borrow you one?). in this case, make sure the game is as new as possible (so as for it to have the newest system update on it) and is from your region.
I personally have done these steps (with a net update) and play WiiWare even with my WiiKey installed, I can play originals as well as my own backups.
Of course it's up to you; if you wish to remove the WiiKey, go right ahead!
Good luck,
topN

Long story short, I recently bought a modded wii from my brother.
I know it has the original Wii Key mod chip, though I don't know which firmware he has installed.
The current wii menu is 3.1 and I took advantage of this and installed the homebrew channel via the Twilight hack.
According to your posts, it's safe to upgrade to wii system menu 4.2U with Wii Key firmware 1.9s installed.
However, will 4.2 delete my homebrew channel?

Update:
I decided after I wrote my post to go ahead and update the WiiKey to 1.9s and the game is working perfect now.
@topN I have played Wii Fit before and never had any issues. I am wondering how it detected an unauthorized device even though I never updated anything. Anyway, I plan to update the Wii Firmware tonight to 4.2 and i'm crossing my fingers I don't run into any issues.
My friend just purchased a new Wii and he wants his modded, what softmod is the easiest to accomplish? I saw the BreWii but that costs about $35. Anyone have any insight?

I have an NTSC Wii with a Wiikey2 mod chip. Wii firmware is 4.1U, not sure of the Wiikey version. Tried playing a copy of New Super Mario Bros, but it?s saying it needs a System Update. I?ve done this in the past, with other games, without any problems. But I haven?t tried this one yet. Just wondering if anyone has tried playing
a copy of NSMB and if so, after updating, has it worked? There seems to be a lot of problems playing this game on a hard modded (only) console. Thanks for any info.

This game and some others have a New Copy Protection
Some say Wiikey will release an update, but time will tell if they do or not.
There is a patch out there I believe for NSMB. YOu would patch the ISO, then burn it.

I dont think there will be...
I have Wiikey v1 with 1.9s and doubt to see an update. Its time for a new modchip!
Wasabi DX or Wasabi Zero? or Wiikey Fusion?
Anyone recommend a new type of modchip?

The 1.2 was last update for Wiikey 2. There has been talk of a new update, but hard to say if it will happen or not.

I have completely buggered my Wii recently. I installed a bad wad and got the system memory full message. But couldnt delete as the data management screen froze up when using it.
I updated the system to 4.1, and fixed the saves section of data management, but the channels section still froze.
I then used Waninkokos 4.2 updater, as I get 32007 errors when trying to use system update, and that has completely buggered up everything.
I can access the Wii ok, but no games will run, I get black screen, all homebrew is disabled, but not removed, including, i assume anyway, BootMii and PreLoader, I cannot get into then anymore.
I have tried the bannerbomb v2 hack for 4.2 but the new SD card screen freezes, but its ok under data management.
What I want to know is, is there any way that I can use the WiiKey discs or recovery mode to boot anything or help restore my system. Or am I totally screwed, Id be happy to get a working but unmodded 4.2 system right now.
