I read that you should change the disc speed from 6x to 3x. Have you all done this?
Ok, so then I try SMG. It gives me "game cannot be read." I'm pissed because I expected it to work. I burnt the game at 4x speed with TDK DVD-Rs. I try at 2x with TDK DVD-Rs. Same thing happens. I burn a copy of Lego Indianan Jones at 2x with TDK DVD-Rs. It works! So I play it for a few minutes to make sure everything is good. I then burn another game Raving Rabbids TV Party at 2x with TDK DVD-Rs and it loads. It plays for like a minute or two and then all of the sudden I get a black screen saying disc cannot be read. I'm like damn. So then I try Lego Indiana Jones again and it DOESN'T work. I don't get it. I then try re-burning Lego Indiana Jones with Philips DVD-Rs at 1x and this still doesn't play.
Originals games WILL work, but no backups. Do you think there is something wrong with the chip? Like I said it must have been working in the beginning because Lego Indiana Jones did work briefly. Do you think it is the DVD-Rs? PLEASE let me know what you think I should do. Should I try and reinstall the chip ( I have it on with the wii-clip)? Should I then try and re-install the firmware and config disc image? OR Do I just contact modchipcentral and get a replacement? Again, I am at a loss. I am using Rawdump2.0 and everything seems to be working fine. I am just using NTSC originals so I don't even use WiiBrickBlocker or RegionFri.
I'm using an LG 8163b.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE get back to me.
Ok for the SMG, try using Wii Brickblocker and patch it, then burn it again.
On my Wiikey 2 if a game said "could not be read" that is exactly what I did and it worked even though the game was NTSC and so is my Wii
I don't know what type of burner you are using, but I would suggest getting Verbatim discs and burn at 4x using imgburn or try your TDK at 4x.

smokyrain,
I did what you said. I opened Wii Brick Blocker and selected my backup of SMG in my RawDump2.0 folder. I clicked patch. It said complete. I then burned at 4x with imgburn. I popped in the game and it worked!!!! I played the game for like 10 minutes.
BUT
I then took it out and then tried a copy of Lego Indiana Jones. I patched this also with Wii Brick Blocker and burned it at 4x with imgburn. I popped that in and it loaded up in the wii menu. It WOULD NOT play.
THEN
I put SMG back in (previously working) and it WOULD NOT play. I'm at a loss. I have noticed that I can put originals in and then in the middle of playing I can swap the original for the copy and then copy loads and I can continue playing where I left off in the game, but then after a minute or two it says disc cannot be read, then I can put the original back in and it loads. I can keep doing this.
If anybody could please help me out I would really appreciate it. I think the chip has got to be the problem. I think I am going to take apart the wii and unclip the wiikey and clip it back on. Then I will try and do the firmware and config image again.
Please HELP!!!

I know I had that same issue with TDK and Maxell, switching over to Memorex and Verbatim fixed the issue! Hope that helps!

Thanks so much. I went out to Office Max and bought a 50 pack of Verbatim DVD-Rs. They work flawlessly. I use 4x with Imgburn. I just burned 5 games. Everything reads great. I'm glad its not the chip.

I have been searching for quite some time, and I think Iknow the correct answer, but I want to be sure;
If I want to update my Wii's firmware, it is best to do it via the internet, correct (instead of via a game disc)?
Im nt even sure I want to yet, in case Nintendo starts meddling around and "looking" at my Wii via the web. I suppose I could disable the Wii from going on line until I need it to go online.....

It is ok to update via a game disc as long as the disc is the same region as your Wii.
What firmware are you on right now?
Most people agree it is just safer or recommended to stay on 3.2 firmware, until it is known what Nintendo can do after the 3.4 update.

I updated to 3.4 and all my games work with the exception of SSBB. The only game really worth playing again IMO. I even went as far as buying it and it still won't play. So I would try to avoid the update.

I have the 3.4 update and SSBB works fine for me.. Not sure even why the Original won't work for you.

After I posted that, I looked back at some old threads and it looks like the original never worked with the wiikey because of some Dual Layer issue so that has nothing to do with the 3.4 update. I guess I'll have to keep looking into why my SSBB isn't working for me if you say your backup works.

For SSBB you have to set the layer break manually at 2084960 , burn on Verbatim DL DVD+R at 2.4x with imgburn.
Or at least that is what media and speed I used.
But I guess that still doesn't explain why Original won't work on your wiikey.

I am on 3.3u, and I do not do other region games, downloads, or anything like that. I buy games, burn copies and put the originals away.
I just bought Top Spin 3, and when I put in the original disc I got the message that an update was needed. I checked and sure enough, I have 3.3U on my Wii and I see nintendo has released 3.4U.
I would like to play the game, but the part about Nintendo "looking" at my Wii does not make me happy.

Do you have the homebrew channel or you have a modchip?

I have a "wiikey 2" and I installed the 3.4 update, but I am just one of those that has faith that Nintendo can't detect the modchip, just the homebrew.
If you are worried about it you could downgrade to 3.2, then install the "homebrew channel" and with that install "starfall" to block further updates.
http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs...matutorial.html
Being your system is modded you can use a backup of "Zelda Twilight Princess" to install , I just used the "save 0" the first save file.
If you have the "Oct 23" update then you need to follow this tutorial instead to install "homebrew channel"

so you still need what. A modchip. Only if you want to purchase one and install it.
That is your personal preference.
If you have done the softmod, I am not sure why you are posting in this thread.
This thread is to deal with the "wiikey" modchip.

I got my SSBB to work. I have the dvd5 version btw, not the Dual Layer dvd9 version. Apparently SSBB is trusha signed or something like that and 3.3+ versions check for that to play the game. I had to downgrade back to 3.2 and now it all works again. I used Emperor of Canada's guide.

Cool. I was wondering if that might have been the problem.

It is fine. I just wasn't really understanding what you needed.
There are some good tutorials and explanations on this site and here.
They may help you also along the way to understand more about the wii and what all you can do.
And of course our own guides and faqs
