Yeah, I think my disk is scratched or something. My computer would not finish reading. I was using decryptor. I thought it might have some type of scheme protection. Thanks.

Added all known DVD9 (dual-layer) titles to the list and broadly categorized them under "patched/rebuilt/loader/ripped." Revised list percentages to reflect this.

Hi,first off,i'm using TDK DVD-R 8x
I'm having problems backing up True Crime:NYC
I used DVD Decrypter to backup the iso to my pc using READ mode,
then i burnt it using decrypter at 2,4x(the lowest possible for me)
the game boots fine, but after a while in the intro, the game starts repeating some scenes(it's hard to explain)
it's hard to explain but i see a scene, and then, the game sorta skips, and shows me a second of the last scene again, you know...
i've burnt it at 4x then, but the game won't load then, you hear the disc spinning real fast in my PS2
So all that crap bout burning 8x at 4x is wrong...
The same happens with NFS: MW
the game loads fine, but after a while in the intro, the cars keep driving, but the tracks aren't there.... it's like they are driving in the skies...
Can anyone please help me out at what might be the problem???

some more questions:
1)when extracting the iso using DVD Decrypter, does read rate matter?
I mean, should the read rate be at 4x if you want to burn the game iso to dvd later at 4x as well?Cuz now mine is always at MAX.
2) how come none of my 4x burns work using tdk 8x?
3) is it normal that sometimes when burning at,say 2,4x,
the write rate sometimes go back to,say 1,5x for a couple of seconds and then goes back up to 2,4x?
Please someone help me out here,i'm trying to find a solution...

Wow, great to hear you finally got KOC II working!
Not too sure exactly what's wrong, Jurgennop, but you might want to try testing your backup discs with Nero CDSpeed (at www.cdspeed2000.com ), it's what I use to make sure I'm making decent burns.
Here's a step-by-step way to confirm your burns are okay:
1. Run a Disc Quality test and a Benchmark test with Nero CDSpeed.
2. The Disc Quality test should have PI Error Max less than 280, and PIF Error Max less than 32 (scanned at ECC 8; PIF Max should be less than 4 at ECC 1). Scan at 4-5x for best results.
3. The Benchmark curve should be smooth, without any sharp dips.
4. If your PI/PIF maximums are a lot higher than those suggested above, then it's likely you're making bad burns.
I haven't really encountered any problems reading at max with DVD Decrypter. As for burning speed with a particular media, it largely depends on your burner and your setup. Personally, I have mostly gotten best results 4x with most media, or 8x with the Ritek G05 16x DVD+Rs I use currently. Burning at lower speeds yields poorer results (significantly higher PI/PIF maximums with CDSpeed) for me, so burning at the lowest speed doesn't necessarily work for some people.
If you can't burn at 4x with 8x media, try upgrading your burner's firmware: it should be downloadable from the manufacturer's website. Also, it's unusual for the burn rate to drop suddenly. Usually this is the result of your hard drive being unable to keep up, but this mainly occurs at fast speeds (12x or 16x for me). Try defragmenting your hard drive to see if it helps, but upgrading your firmware is a must.
My friend played my backup of True Crime: NYC for a few hours without any problems, so it's definitely a problem with your backups. As for Shadow the Hedgehog, I haven't gotten around to testing that, but I'll let you know if it works -- past history says it most likely should, though.

The Sims 2 wouldn`t go for me with SM 3.6,burned it twice on Maxell 4x and got the "Freeze" at the load up screen...
@Jurgennop
I had the same problem with SW Revenge of the Sith,I would be playing and then the screen would disappear, the Light Sabers were the only things you could see.I reburned at the lowest speed (2x) and voila,it worked.I was using some crap media too...

i'm a noob at firmware and stuff, and wouldn't know how to start with that, my current firmware is G7H9 and it would be helpful is there was a program that looks for your firmware itself and updates it....

DVDInfopro (at www.dvdinfopro.com) will tell you your burner's firmware revision, but you'll have to download new revisions yourself from the manufacturer's website. As far as I know, there is no software that will automatically update or download firmware for you.
By the way, Shadow the Hedgehog works fine, as does The Sims 2 (as shown on the list).

@pretense, did you have to rebuilt Shadow the Hedgehog? It seems like it should. It's 4gb toc but is only 2gb if you extract it.

There are only ten games which I have ever rebuilt, all on the list under "DVD games (patched/rebuilt/loaders)", and three of them (the two Star Wars: Battlefront games and Matrix: The Path of Neo) I have heard work fine without rebuilding -- I just haven't bothered to try myself. Shadow the Hedgehog isn't one of those ten; it works just fine without rebuilding.
Generally speaking, rebuilding is only a necessity for certain problem games above the Swap Magic DVD TOC of 4.35 GB. That doesn't mean that all games above 4.35 GB won't work; there are plenty of games with "large-TOC" sizes which work just fine without rebuilding in spite of being oversized (Def Jam: Fight for New York, Marvel Nemesis, and Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, among others, come to mind). And just because a game can be reduced in size by rebuilding doesn't mean it's required; I'd wager that a majority (70-90%) of games have fake LBAs which cause the ISO and TOC to be bigger than the actual data.
However, rebuilding is pretty popular even when it's not necessary because of one reason, and one reason only: Lots of people make bad burns. This generally a result of media/burner/firmware, burning speeds, or both. Basically, if you have burning problems, you're likely to create more errors (in terms of PI/PIFs, which can be tested with Nero CDSpeed) the closer you get to the outside edge of the disc -- i.e., the bigger the ISO is. With a lot of errors, that data becomes unreadable to the standalone DVD player (in this case, your PS2) because inbuilt error correction cannot compensate enough. On the other hand, it's easier to make cleaner burns towards the inside of the disc. So a lot of people rebuild games purely because it reduces the size and "pushes" the data further from the outside edge, where they have problems burning. Unfortunately, these are the same people who keep claiming that rebuilding is "necessary" for game X and game Y, even though it's not the case. Again, this is a media/burner issue, and not related to the game at all.
The short answer of it is, Shadow the Hedgehog, like nearly all single-layer DVD5 games, doesn't need rebuilding. It's less than 4.35 GB, which guarantees rebuilding is unnecessary (unless you have burning issues). I've played it myself, and it works fine. And the numbers prove it's true: 97% of the tested single-layer DVD games (303 out of 313) don't need rebuilding at all.

Hey thanks for replying with that great explanation. Yea I just did a one to one burn without rebuilding to dvd and Shadow the Hedgehog works perfectly when used with Swap Magic 3.3. I then just rebuilt it to put on my hard drive so that extra two gigs could be used for other games and it still works fine.

- Very slow at loading
- Juddery (skips and studders)
- Freezes
This has happaned on two of my PS2s. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG. The 2 games I burned was GUN (2GB) and True Crime New York (2.2GB).

You might have to try burning them at a different speed (try 4X). Otherwise, you could try to rebuild the game and then burn it.

Here are a couple things that you could try.
1. Have you cleaned out your PS2 and laser lately? If not, try that. Clean the laser with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol.
2. Are you using +R or -R DVD's. If +R, you could try to set your burner to booktype.
3. Is your burner's firmware up to date? There is a link in my sig with the updates. Check to see if a newer version is available.
