I had a bad case of the BSOD so I moved all important files and programs over to an external hard drive. Clean installed XP Pro SP3. Now when I try to backup DVDs with AnyDVD, Shrink and Nero like I always have in the past it gets to the writing process of burning and errors out. I've tried tweaking some settings and even tried installing my burners latest firmware, the website said 1.03 was latest but my drive reads as if it has 1.04 when I try to install it. I probably lost a file or something when I transferred the programs but I can't seem to find out where. Here is the latest error log it gave me if it will help anyone to help me out.

It's actually a SATA burner. I haven't read any solution, if there even is one, to turning DMA on on a SATA drive that says it's off.

EDIT: Found a solution. Instead of uninstalling the drive itself which wasn't the problem apparently, I had to uninstall the controller that came in the nvidia chipset. Once I uninstalled the one that had the DVD-RW drive and my hard drive on it and rebooted the PC it "discovered" the primary, secondary and and Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE controllers (3 of each albeit but I'll take it) which then automatically set it to DMA. Since I got tired of coastering Verbatims I put a memorex in the drive to test it out and it burnt it without a hitch.

MoserBaer disks - not as good as Verbatim Datalife.

Try burning at 4x instead of 8x.

Try burning the folder/iso with ImgBurn.

Tools > Settings > Write, check 'perform opc before write'
