New user here. I was looking for a program that would compress and convert DVDs from the drive directly or form the image (ISO). I think I have found it in DVD shrink. However, I am surprised by two things; 1)the only output available is mp4, and 2)there is no compression control. I would have thought that there would be an option as to how much you want to compres the file. Obviously the ipad would get compressed the most, but for normal mp4 conversion there is no option. I also would have thought that at least an avi option would be available.

Haven't got a clue what your talking about, dvd shrink doesn't create mp4 files it creates iso or std def video_ts ready to burn it can compress also, however in your case you process dvd with shrink then encode with handbrake or use a program like dvdvideosoft which is free
edit:go check guides section for tuts on how to use programs i've mentioned

UH, that's exactly what DVD shrink does, converts all the VOB DVD files in the ISO to an mp4. This just happens to be one of the options. Perhaps you have never used it.

You mean mpg2 as that is the std dvd structure, shrink is not a converter however it can compress, there's a tut on how to do that in the tuts section,if you want to convert a dvd to mp4 it would be better to use handbrake or some other such like converter

There is some compression control but the idea is to fill the disk. Listen to the experts, you are 'talking' WAY TOO MUCH. That gets in the way of you actually learning what you need. I have converted thousands of movies so I ought to know a thing or two. It is not like a read a book about the process. You are clueless and telling experts stupid stuff.

I thought my questions were fairly straight forward enough that anybody with experience using DVD shrink would be able to answer them easily without getting offensive. My question was regarding only one of the four options available on DVD shrink. See the manual for proof that it does what I said it does, that is, convert VOB files from a ripped DVD to an mp4 file. Am I still talking too much?

You are talking to people with years of experience, and the statement that you are making is not correct.

This in fact is not at all what DVDShrink does, so I have to ask you a question. Are you using one of the fake DVDShrinks, that you paid for? If this is the case, then the people that stole the original FREE version are to blame for our confusion.
DVDShrink converts VIDO_TS structure which consists of (ifo, bup, and vob files. The file structure is VMG and VTS) into and ISO image for burning to DVD or saving to you HDD. It does not convert VIDEO_TS to MP4. There are converters available that do this, but DVDShrink has not been updated in years. The original designer of DVDShrink works for Nero now creating their conversion tool. I haven't used it in such a long time I can't remember what it is called.

I won't say that you are talking to much, I will just say that you need to be a little more descriptive in what you are asking. What version of DVDShrink do you use, and can you supply us a screen shot of where you can convert VIDEO_TS to MP4?
Thanks!
Edit: I think this is the software you are looking for. I have it and it converts the way you are saying that DVDShrink does. CloneDVD Mobile

dvdvideosoft
dvdfab
slysoft clonedvd mobile
avs video converter

there's a stack more in software section here at AD,some of the programs i've listed above are free some are not
personally mp4 or mkv are better than avi as you can keep the sound original 1:1 & have multiple streams of audio

OK, now we are getting somewhere, Chetwood and Syxguns, thanks for setting me straight here and not berating me further. From my own point of view I was correct, and in fact I must have been using a forged version, but dont know which one (I didnt pay for it). Im sure many people like me have to go through this process and learn the hard way. Thanks for your help. Now that I have the real dvd shrink, I will play around with it. ScorpNZ, thanks for the other suggestions. Ill check those out.

Yes, since what you are saying is completely wrong. The output of Shrink is still a set of VOB files if you ever cared to look. I guess you like to think you are the only one that knows anything. If so, why did you post a question since you know it all?
As everyone has been trying to tell you again and again. Shrink does not convert it does primitive decryption and does some compression. It also allows for very limited editing. It is obvious you do not have the capacity to grasp even simple concepts because your mind is filled with garbage.
You would need something like handbreak to convert to an mp4. That was also mentioned before.

You're welcome for the assistance. Hopefully you will find handbrake or one of the other file converters useful. Good Luck!

Oh, and by the way, since there would be no real legitimate reason to counterfeit something that is gotten for free, I would be very suspicious about malware. Building an application usually takes some effort. Bot nets sealing your identity are the most common these days. Maybe it installed a dll somewhere you will not likely find it.
