I am a newby at this so I apologise in advance. I have burnt a few movies for back ups using nero 7. I click on make a DATA DVD and go through the process and they wont play on the dvd. One has played which is an avi, the others are mp4's and the two others are avi's but those two wont even burn. I have a new dvd (good quality) and plasma tv so I have no idea what I am doing wrong. So Im am thinking I should only be burning avi's? and not mp4's? But my friend who is just as new to this as me said she can do mp4s and be able to play them on her dvd player. Any ideas what I can do or not do would be greatly appreciated.
ps what a great site for someone learning, lots of info for me, fantastic!

I'm having a similar issue with Nero 8 that's been driving me crazy. Been using DVDShrink and Nero 8 for the last 2 years with no issues until recently. No error in process and DVD plays fine on PC but not on the DVD player. Have tried a lot of things and at this point think it's related to Nero and a switch to 16X DVD's. Would try a 8x but can't 16X is all I've seen in the stores now. Anybody else have the same problem and hopefully a solution?
Have tried: Replacing DVD player, reinstalling DVDShrink, in DVDShrink selected a slower copy speed 4X and 8X, 3 different types of blank media, multiple movies.

Save the movie to your HDD first(as folder, ISO, doesn't matter), then burn using ImgBurn, then you'll know if Nero is at fault.

Thanks for the ImgBurn advice. Extra step in the process but it worked!! Does prove that Nero is a pain. Also tried finding a copy of Convertx but haven't found one yet but at least have something that me working again. Thanks!!
