I've had many successful burns in the past so I wouldn't say I'm a total newbie, but I'd dare say I'm completely out of ideas because I've pretty much tried everything I can think of so far. For almost 2 weeks I've been trying to burn avi files to a DVD (wasting MANY disks) with Nero 7 and the burn process always failed. I'm on windows XP and have 2 DVD drives: on board 16x DVDRW, an external (plug & play) Sony DRU500A, have been using 16x maxell DVDs and using a reasonable burn speed of 4x. I've resorted to downloading converters (thinking it was the avi) and have tried Nero: BurningROM, Vision, Recode, Express..etc. Finally, I converted the avi files to mpeg (NTSC)and tried Nero again, then DVD Flick. Finally thinking I was out of the woods, with both processes I received the error message: "Session Fixation Error=> Could Not Perform Disk-at-once=> Burn Process Failed. I've contacted Nero tech support, I've troubleshot it, searched every forum high and low, tried decoding the confusing burn logs..etc., all with NO LUCK so far.
This is my plea for help, from someone who can explain (in easy to understand terms) what it is I'm missing. If needed, I have the nero burn logs. But seriously, I would be ever so gracious for a solution to this depressing/seemingly hopeless problem. ***And as a note, not to offend anyone, but PLEASE don't chime in with (shot in the dark) responses like: "its the disk brand, its the chord, its the burn speed, you need to defrag your computer"..it makes it 3,000 times harder for me (and many others) to find practical solutions. Thank you very much for your time (and useful answers). I'm hopeful that this can be resolved for myself, and the thousands of others wandering around in the dark.

I'm open to the option of trying to turn DMA on..according to the guide link you sent, you're supposed to uninstall the drivers for both the primary and secondary channels and then restart where windows is supposed to automatically reinstall them. I checked both and the "secondary channel" seems to have DMA off. The guide says it can cause system damage..What are the risks involved here? I only ask because my computer's a bit old and I don't want to do anything to risk losing it or the valuable contents on it. Is the danger to the dvd drive or my hardrive? Just checking, because I am only trying to fix a small problem..not create more for myself. I'm just trying to be safe not sorry. I can live without a burner but I cant without a computer. Has anyone in the same situation done this before and had successful results?

The guide is referring to the downloadable VBS script.
I would simply highlight/right-click on the Secondary and 'uninstall' then reboot.
The drivers will reinstall automatically.
Recheck to verify that DMA is on.
I've never run into a problem doing this.

attar is correct there should be no issue uninstalling the drivers windows will install them on reboot however if you worried just use drivermax it will collect all your installed drivers & back them up,the utility is free

Just a precautionary measure..Both primary and secondary channels say DMA is ON. However, the secondary channel, under current transfer mode, says "Not Applicable"..what does this mean? Is it really necessary to uninstall the driver if PIO isn't mentioned anywhere?
