Hello AfterDawn Community!

I'm often on variousforums looking for solutions of many problems and I knew then that the day will come, when I'll be needing one too...

I have problem with Nero burning or better not burning.Have tried many things but without succes... Maybe is RAM, like one said the other day, I have it only 512MB in total. When I'm burning, I see that is used up to 50%by other Apps so Nero is stucked with a little more than 200MB wich seems to me as enough, but what do I know, right. The answer would help others too, I'm sure of it.

So please, maybe there is someone who Knows or who can direct me to the answer, I would be most gratefull. Thanks.

Here I'm enclosing this Nero Error Log for assistence:

crap disks.. don't people look before posting?

"key_medium_error" always means crap disks. yup.. even cd's can be crap.. unusual.. but it happens..

CDR code: 00 97 26 66; OSJ entry from: CMC Magnetics Corporation
ATIP Data:
Special Info [hex] 1: D0 00 98, 2: 61 1A 42 (LI 97:26.66), 3: 4F 3B 47 (LO 79:59.71)
Additional Info [hex] 1: 00 00 00 (invalid), 2: 00 00 00 (invalid), 3: 00 00 00 (invalid)

and what's this garbage? ..

12:42:57 #18 Phase 36 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1767

try burning faster.. like 24x or something.. unless that odd brand burner (possibly a real antique.. TEAC?.. haven't seen one of those in must be 10 years) will only do 2x in which case bin it and buy a new one.

Thanks on quick replay, I appreciate it.

Yes It's nearly 10 years, so is my 512MB of ram.
But it was working before and I always am buying Verbatim and have never had problems before. Maybe this CDs are manufactured at low standards. Who knows? But this I can not read anywhere on the box of CD's. What kind of CDs do you recommend?
it seems Verbatim is not what is use to be?

And what is of burning speeds concerned; even on this forum I read that low speed helps with burning at certain conditions. So I've tried it.

On my other PC, wich is a bit younger(2009), the same CDs are well burned by Nero.
So maybe is my old TEAC W58E like an old grombley man who's shoes don't fit no more??
I have not found firmware for this peace of hardware yet and probably will not ever, no more.

I'll try to remember: Key_medium_error: crapy discs...

Tell me, where can I look for that kind of info? When I was looking for codes of Nero errors, did find only list of errors without necessary explanations.

Thanks in advance for your effort.

hi :)

at that age niether the drive or ram would be very fast. infact a snail with a broken leg would be quicker :)

proves a point (time for retirement for the old fella)

there is slow and SLOW. modern drives that now burn cd's at 50 + x.
24x/32x is a realistic burn speed
errors can accour at to slow (2x) a burn as well as to high
as a general guide half the speed of the rated media is about right

Yup.. I hazarded a guess at age because I have a grotty old HP (matsushika) cd burner (1997) which will only burn at 4x .. it's fine on r/w 12x disks but fails on anything more modern.

Old thing would probably do ok with nero2 or 3 on a p133 tho.. and probably still heaps of life left as a spare cd-rom.

10 year old machine?.. I would ditch windows and use that as a nice solaris/unix testbed.

I had a look for firmware, and found the last update was to handle 12x disks in 2001 .. so probably pointless anyway.
