It looks like firmware updates are available for the burners -

- but before that, it's odd that both burners would fail;consider changing to Verbatim brand disks instead of the CMC.

I tried to update the firmware but I can not...I have a message about my winaspi.dll...

I tried to update the nec firmware and I failed...

I update the sony firmware...fine...the other dvd drive is defective...

Still has the same problem....tried 2 different DVDs...

any other ideas?

Your Drive May Have a Bad Laser or a Dirty One. Try Cleaning the Laser.

Also Try Using Verbatim Brand Media.

the strange thing is that I can burn CDs in both external and internal writers...but can not burn dvds...even with imgbrn...
I will try roxio zap...

how do you clean the laser?

I did roxio zap and I tried 2 different medias...still no luck...I do not know how to clean the laser....but...the same problem happens with an external DVD writer...

Both logs show the burn at 2.4X, can you select another setting in ImgBurn - say 4x?

...also, insert a DVD-R and check the 'Test' box in imgBurn to do a simulated burn - this only tests communication between the software and the burner, the laser is out of the picture - nothing is burned to the disk.

Buy Laser Cleaning Disc At Radio Shack.

Different Computers. Different Burners. Things Aren't The Same.
