you can with the Optarics not the liteons. TBH i dont think alot of people know you can choose with the Optarics.
im going to see if i can change the AD7220S seeing it has the liteon chip in it. it is the onlyone that i havent checked what it can be set at.

EDIT:
yup its set just like the liteon 20A4P

Rob,
Let me know how you make out with that, as I have two AD7220s drives!

Im betting its simply an optiarc shell. And behaves EXACTLY like a lite-on.

And the LH redeems itself again :D 8X burn, opposed to the last burn which was 12X. Not too bad at all. In fact, its the best TYG03 the LH has put out! :)

I shouldn't do this but I'm gonna anyway. LOL.

@RUSS.... YOU AVOID DOING ANYTHING UNTIL ROBERT KNOWS IT WORKS OR NOT IF HE CHOOSES TO DO ANYTHING. :p

@Robert... as you prolly already know the AD-7220S is the iHAS322 LITEON drive.. there are some cross-flash f/w available if you choose to do so. ;) It'll make the drive a "true" LITEON drive and give you the availability of a JITTER test with the "altered" CD/DVD Speed progie. :)

try this page for ideas. ;)

Theres also a particular CdSpeed release that will allow the iHAP's and iHAS's to scan jitter. I think thats the one I run now :)

If the 7220 is indeed a iHAS/iHAP then it should work for it. I would think anyway.

Oman7 that's what I was eluding to in the last post...

linky here for Nero CD/DVD Speed 4.7.7.16

Works on iHAS and iHAP drives but NOT for 20A3 drives. ;)

It might and it might not work with the "Sony" drive. :) If you cross flash it to a LITEON drive then you have about 99.9% chance of it working.... assuming of course you don't BRICK you drive. ;)

Oh. I see that there now LOL!

But see...you said that it really is just an iHAS322. If thats true, then why would cross flashing be needed? If the chip is already there...

f/w is all I can say. :) You can try it but I'm betting a small amount it won't work unless it's a LITEON drive. ;)

I haven't purchased a new ODD in quite some time... I'm NOT in the market and besides I need to spend money on other things like frikkin car chargers for me brides Zune I got her last year... ROFL. :P

F/W, of course LOL! Yah, I guess I would doubt that iHAS/iHAP F/w's would work. Glad I don't have to try that one LOL! I'd be afraid of "Bricking" the drive, as it were :)

I've never "flashed" that drive but I'm sure it's NOT difficult... If I can do it anyone can but maybe Russ. hehehee. :) j/k buddy.... You just have the worst luck when it comes to ODD's. :)

Oman7 if you want some help, just lemme know or send a PM... I'd start another thread if you really need the help as I'm sure there will be others that are interested. :)

GM,
I wouldn't dream of flashing any drive model I never flashed before without consulting you first! I am getting better at it though, as I was able to recover that drive I bricked!

New MB is installed and up and running. So far, so good! I'm going to install all the software before I even mess with overclocking. Runs very well for a stock 2.7GHz machine!

Best Regards,
Russ

not that im worried about the crossflash ive done a few. no where near the amount you have..lol but i am totally happy with the AD7220S the way it is. heck if i could get some more of the same batch of those verbs i recently got i would never need a crossflash or FW update..lol

@Garmoon.
post your results and lets see what it does. both of my 7200A/S will let me choose 8ecc & 1ecc but hte AD7220S wont nore will my true liteon 20A4P. i just got Obsessed lastnight gonna do the backup of it shortly. ill do it on a couple drives and and use each setting and see what i get.
first i gotta open the tower up and get some canned air going in there.been a week or so since i last cleaned it out.

@cincy

I scanned it yesterday and it was also a butt ugly scan on a Ritek F16 burned at 8X as a second copy from Recode. The score was a 93. PIF were around 730 with only one PIF @3 which brought down the score to 93 from 95. There were 7 PIF spikes of 2 and rest were 1s. The blue errors were many - over 100,000. There was no jitter scan with the drive. When i hit the start scan button the jitter greyed out immediately. I ran thru the disc and all chapters opened and play began. I'm confident it will play flawlessly-I'll have to wait for my daughter to tell me. The movie was I Love you, Man and I'll watch it tonight. It was the first back up created with Recode before swapping to Ritek F16. My copy was done with a Verb 004. Maybe I'll scan that one now.

Okay here is the same disc, a backup with NeroRecode, on a Verb MCC-004 +R disc-booktyped. Burned with an Optiarc AD 7240S. Scanned first with the Optiarc AD7240S (set the way the Litey is set in advanced settings at 1) and then my litey LH 20A1S. Both about the same.

I get 95 all the time-never better and ususally never worse on good media. I might add that when the Litey started its scan it immedially dropped the score to 40 with a huge red PIF. I stopped the scan and checked the disc and wiped it for safe measure on my shirt and it started as you can see above. I did NOT see anything on the disc!! Can some one address that, greeny??

If anything the Opti 7240S is more critical in its PIEs and PIFs>

And yes greeny I know the jitter is horrible. If I only had the energy to find out why that was bad cause I have no idea how to correct that or realy what it measures-LOL?????

I wouldn't say the jitter is horrible. It is inconsistent though :)
As for the red spike, I get them occasionally on my LH-20A1H. If I slow the scan to 2X then its gone. Can't explain it. I suppose my drive is aging though. Its seen a great deal of discs!

OK here's one of the first DVDs I backed up. Over 5.5 years ago. Movie Underworld. On of all media a Memorex which in reality was a ricohjpn 01 @ X4. This bodes well for our collections, at least mine so far. I'll take this burn today; done with good ole DVD X Copy in Xpress copy mode on my first dvd burner.

Well...that certainly puts my mind at ease there garmoon :D thanks for the tidbit.

Here's a little checkup on my secondary sammy. Its first week caused me to raise my brow, if you get me LOL! Its always been a little slower at rips, and lesser quality scans. But this is looking pretty friggin good for a TYG03 watershield.

GARmoonY try using the same version of Nero CD/DVD Speed (4.7.7.16) and see what you get. ;) NOT saying that could make a difference but that would at least be comparing apples and apples when it comes to scanning progies. ;)

I've had the SPIKE many times and restarting sometimes gets "RID" of it but NOT always. Some sort of anomaly I guess. :)

Nice scan on the RICOH JPN 01... :)
