Here's a RICOHJPN D01..
burner: LiteOn LH-18A1P @ 4X
scanner: same drive @ 8X
MID: RICOHJPN D01
IMGBURN 2.3.2.0
Nero CD/DVD speed 4.7.5.0
stat
scan
I coastered 3 of these discs with the Samsung SH-S203B before I went to the LiteON LH-18A1P. I'll try some other drives later but the Sammy HATES the RICOHJPN D01's at 4X or 2.4X. :-( This is the second MID that the Sammy doesn't like. It burns some other MID's like a champ but the RICOHJPN D01 and CMC MAG E01 coaster basically every time. I know they're not known for being good media but I have other drives that will handle the media just fine. NOT great now but at least it will produce something you can watch.

greensman,
Are those the Dynex DLs? The MBIs that I'm posting are also RICOHJPN D01s but have a 67 or 067 after the D01 ident in ImgBurn. Check in ImgBurn for the trailing numbers, I'm curious. I'm burning the MBIs best with my Samsung 203B.
I think there are a couple of sub MIDs for this ident. I seem to remember seeing some D01 001s before and those were bad.

edit:
I put this disc in my Sony DVP-NS55P and it wouldn't play but it played like a champ in the Mintek DVD-1600. LOL. It burns my arse that a disc won't play in a $80 DVD player and you thro it in a $30 player and here it goes. LOL.
OK with that little rant...
What player has everyone had GOOD luck playing DVD's in?? NOT pressed but all kinds of backups, VCD, Xvid, DVDR 5, DVDR 9, and so on. :P I guess I should place this in the blank media thread. :S

@greensman,
My Pioneer DV-490V plays just about everything though if you start to screw around with the pause, step forward, step back it can get confused. For those with Sony players, here's a link to maybe calibrate your player. If it works, let me know. I don't have a Sony player but my brother does & it won't play burned discs.
Found out I had some of those Ridata 8X DVD+R DL but hadn't tried them. ;D First one went into the trash, Here's the 2nd one. Burned with ImgBurn on Samsung 203B @ 4x.
Here's another MBI 8x DL burned @ 4x with ImgBurn on a Samsung 203B, scanned @ 4x
scan.
Notice the skewed layers? It's like a 63/37 split, which ImgBurn said was the best spot. Plays well though.

NOT bad there hobbit. ;)
Burner: Sony/NEC/Optiarc AD-7170S @ 8X
Scanner: LH-18A1P @ 8X
MID: TTH02
IMGBURN 2.3.2.0
Nero CD/DVD Speed 4.7.5.0
Not a bad burn/scan for this media. Just doing some burning with different media and different drives for poo-poo's and ha-ha's. :D I'm actually pleased with the PIE's and the PIF's are acceptable but not where I'd like to see them. ;)

Thanks hobbit. Just re-downloaded the SB01 file. What's funny is I downloaded it just the other day and re-flashed because I wasn't very happy with the results I was getting. NOW a couple of days later they come out with another version. At least they are updating stuff and not letting it just sit there. :D

I'll report later. :P

Several burns of RICOHJPN D01 067 8x DLs here, on 2 different Samsung 203Bs.
Result is that these don't burn well @ 6x but 4x is O.K.
RICOHJPN D01 067 8x DL, 6x Burn, 4x Scan
RICOHJPN D01 067, 8x DL, 4x Burn 4x Scan
These 2 burned on same burner.
RICOHJPN D01 067 8x DL, 6x Burn, 4x Scan
RICOHJPN D01 067 8x DL, 4x Burn, 4x Scan
These 2 burned on different burner.
Oh, firmware on both is ck's original SB01 FR,FB
I think it's time to start stating the sub MIDs of these discs as they do have different write strategies in most firmwares. I have much better sucess with the 067's vs the 002's

Ok guys I have a problem. I'm trying to run a disc quality scan on my HP Pavilion dv2040us laptop and I get the error "Drive does not support this function". The drive is a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-850S v1.05 firmware - no other updates available. Does anyone know why it won't let me do a scan? The disc is a Taiyo Yuden DVD+R.
Thanks in advance.

I have one of those drives in my laptop too - the UJ-840 model - and I can say that hobbit112's wording of them is quite accurate :)

Pretty good cincyrob!
Was that a MIS or a MII Verb DL? I'd guess a MII.

Well God forbids if something were to happen to our laptop dvd drives. Are there any options besides going back to HP to purchase another one?

Well I bought an external for the 'just in case' - though it stays hooked up to a pc most of the time.
The external isn't handy for the 'on the go' stuff - little to cumbersome to carry around w/ the laptop :)
I mainly just use the laptop drive to watch a dvd or burn a cd.
I burned dvd's with this drive - Taiyo's even - that after the burn it wouldn't even read them again. Played in everything else though.
And the scans I got from this drive (using a LiteOn to scan) are pretty horrible.

I also got an external due to a certain person's recommendation (Thanks Binkie7!)rather than replacing the Matshita with another internal (would have voided my warranty).
It's the best thing I've done with the laptop! Now I can do disc to disc transfers, mutiple disc copies, burn DLs consistantly, scan (I got a lite-on external, again, thanks Binkie7!) and burn faster!
I mainly use the internal now for playing cds, dvds & games.
I don't have the problem of cumbersome "on the go" situation as I got a targus backpack for it all, quite handy.
Enough on this for now. I'll be back shortly with some scans, I've got some in the oven!
