Newegg must be having problems at the mo. I couldn't see the detailed pics as they are "temporarily unavailable". I zoomed in on the much smaller 'link to' pics instead lol. Too fuzzy for my old eyes. Given the choice I'd prolly go for the second of the two just for the same reason. Would be nice to see the black front alternative in the flesh (at least I think it was an alternative front).
So is this system not only replacing your tower, but also the same spot on the desk? or is it intended for a more remote location? I suppose the vga cord to the monitor might be a bit limiting. I did do a quick search on a wireless monitor set up though...not that you need me to tell you what's going on there :P Nice to have a totally wireless set up, very up-market don't you reckon? :)
Cheers.

No! It's going underneath the Sony 5.1 sound system. I get back the whole right side of my desk! Wireless won't be needed in my case as it's on the desk along with the keyboard and monitor. The only wires you will see from the front is the keyboard, and that's because most wireless keyboards lack a few features of their plug in counterparts. One neatly laid cable isn't going to spoil the look one bit. I could still put the Sony on one side and the computer on the other and still have a lot more room than I have now, but I prefer to stack them!

Rob,
It probably just needs a new belt from the motor to the tray mechanism! They eventually get so stretched and slippery that they just won't open the tray! You can get replacements at Radio Shack!

Well you assuming bugger you..... hehehee. :P
I have them both and they perform about the same really. If it was my money the AD-7200A would be my choice though. ;) Of course the 20A4P is a good scanner and burns fine really, I just think the AD-7200 drive is a superior burner/writer. :D Prolly an LG or Pioneer would be next in line for burning tho... I want to try the new Pioneers but I need to save for other goodies for my kiddies and myself. :D Well the wifey too..... hehehe. :D

The belt is only a dollar or so and on almost all drives, it's easy to change! Some drives like my Litey, you can change it just by opening the tray! You don't even have to remove the drive!

Star Trek Voyager. An excellent show, might I add.

Did "HELLBOY 2", took out most of unwanted junks out via VobBlanker and again have Nero Recode 3 to do the job of 9.9% compressions that needed to be transcoded. Backup looks awesome. Keep 'em pretty scans coming.

Do you also believe that the optiarc liteys are not good? I definetely like my AD-7200a Sony/NEC. And infact, On newegg it calls the 7220(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118022) a Sony/Nec. ATLEAST so far I like it. Time will tell how dependable it is. :D
Apparently my Lite-on LH-20A1H is a survivor. Hope I dont end up eating my words, LOL. I have a way of hexxing things. 0.o Its seen well over a hundred discs so far, and no apparent drop in quality, :D <------VERY big smile

Here is another disgusting phillips cmc DVD+R. Yah, the scan may be reasonable but the disks were nothing but headaches. My poor NEC had to burn them at a measley 2.4x a few yrs ago. At that time, I prefered 6-8X. Now I chiefly use 8X TY's and Verbatims :D Believe me noobs, they're worth the few extra pennies/dollars/pounds/euros, etc etc.
So is everyone excited about Day? I sure am.

Nope... sources? :P
I looked at VideoHelp and they indicated NEC... if they are wrong again I need to find another source for ODD identification. ;)
Good scans there people and on "questionable" media too.

I'll do some scans and see what happens this weekend. :D

now ive heard that twice now. but i cant find any info saying that.not that it would matter to me cause i can admit it im a LITEON FANBOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...lol
if it is a litey and rebadged or a sony rebadged it can only mean good things
but our good friends at videohelp. says it's a sony/nec OEM with a nec chipset in it. which is what has given the nec/optaric a good name again..

I never said that, but as Rob said, I realize this thread has a lot of Litey fanboys in it :D and I don't happen to be one. I noticed that L&D firmware was being sought out and you won't find them doing Lite-On firmware AFAIK. I also believe in getting what I pay for, if I buy a Plextor I want a Plextor and not a BenQ etc. If you want a Lite-On then I would suggest buying a Lite-On.
Don't get me wrong, I own a Lite-On too and it's a great drive, but it still takes a back seat to my Sammy 203b, Pio 215D and NEC 7200S.

Thought that I would try out for the GM honor society and give overburning a try :P Here is a TYG02 @ 16x, although it just barely made it there. Not sure what to think of all the blocks, but I will have to wait and watch it for further review.

I'm with LOCO on that. I order by mistake the Sony Optiarc I believe 7191S it was a Lite-on and I already had a good LO- LH-20A1S. So I got the optiarc NEC 7200S. And like it better, but I'll put the LO back in if I have one go bad. I also had a phillips-lite_on that came with pc-POS. couldn't even find firmware for it.
Shame the the Benqs went to $hit after the DW 1650 series.

I gather by SAMMY you mean Samsung. Well, they certainly make good LCD monitors. From what I hear, "They're the best" I might have to try one next time. But if all goes well, I may be set for months and months.

those scans are nice. this is why i use the sammy(SH-S203B) for reading and rippin. same disc same burn speed, same nero create disc to use to burn the .iso.
not a total bad burn(scan wise) but no where near the 7200S or the LH-20A1S

You know... I just cant leave this burner alone, LOL. This is a premium TY. I was looking at my stock pile (LOL) of scans for the Dru840's burns, and only 1/12 burns didnt have the initial PI E spike. Otherwise, for its entire burning of 2.5 months and 100+burns, its always present. Any experts care to explain what happens in a TECHNICAL way. Please note, this wouldnt bother me quite as much, if it were not a visible burning flaw. Yah, thats right! Its visible to the human eye. Any takers??? Yes, it does play in the dvd player :D

O-man first off the date on your "scan" might be a little off. hehehe. :P
If the spot is noticeable on the burned disc AFTER the burn and NOT before then I would look at f/w as the culprit. Have you looked at updating or reverting to another f/w version? I still haven't look up the model and make of your little burner yet. If you could give me the EXACT "numbers" to your drive I'll see what I can find, if you haven't already. ;)
NOW looking back at this "anomaly" it has to be only a couple of things in the "system". Are you using the same batch of discs, is the burner doing something, f/w related or otherwise, or is your computer wonking out at some point in the burn for some reason.
At this point see what you get on that front. :)
