Dr.xp is right about the vcore voltage, try and leave it alone if you can. But if your overclocking by increasing the FSB it will make your system more unstable and you will more than likely have to increase the vcore.

Here's an article about unlocking the multiplier. I tried it, but it was not successful. I think I may not have allowed the paint to dry fully (read the article and you'll know what im talking about). It's worth a shot if you want to take the risk on your system, but make sure you connect the exact pins it says to. Double, tripple or quadruple check before booting.

I OC'd my cpu again. Now its an Athlon XP 2800+ running at 2.41 GHz. It seems stable to me. No lock ups or anything.

Hi, Im new to overclocking so I could do with a little help.
My current PC is athlon xp 2800 w/thermaltake silentboost heatsink, 1024 PC3200 RAM, Mobo: DFI Lanparty NFII ultra B.
The CPU is Athlon xp 2800 which is supposed to run at 2083 but Ive managed to get it to 2213mhz. According to SiSoft's SANDRA it's now equivalent to an athlon xp3200 but windows displays it as an athlon xp 2800 still. Is this a problem?
The BIOS settings now are as shown:
FSB: 177mhz (originally 166mhz)
CPU ratio: X5 (Is this the multiplier??), Used to be "default" (one before X5)
DDR DRAM Clock: 1:1 (used to be "SPD", which gave it ~200mhz but I read somewhere 1:1 ratio (177mhz) is good (Is this true?))
CPU voltage - Auto - 1.64V
DIMM voltage - auto - 2.62V
Could you just check that this appears right because this seems to be different to what other ppl on this thread are saying. BTW Mother Board Monitor 5 says the CPU temp is 31C, which seems a little too low to me (not that its a bad thing!), but worries me because ive heard CPU readings can be wrong sometimes.

hey,
i was looking at upgrading my 2500+ to a 2800+ but after reading this fourm iam condsidering OC'ing the 2500 instead. my set up is:
2500+
asus a7n8x-x
512mb pc2700 ram - (i assume i will have to upgrade this?) i plan on putting in 2 sticks 512 pc 3200 as soon as tomorow and selling the 2700 to a friend.
stock cooling on cpu
good case cooling
temps on cpu around 32c - 37c (full load)
let me know what i need to do as far as voltage. i understand how the fsb multiplyer works. also, do i HAVE to upgrade ram?
thanks

Hi Dr,
I swapped that power supply for an older one I found. 200W that apparently can give higher sustained output than that other one. (I intend to replace it though!)
On the cooling issue I use a Thermaltake volcano 8 that is noisy. I have temperatures that are around the 65 ish when fully loaded. (is that too high, I thought not?) I will buy some water components sometime.
Mems are Nanya CL3 PC3200 (serial number ends -5T)
M&S CL2.5 PC3200 (serial number ends -5B)
They are both conf' in the bios to run CL3
Should I expect to get 6-2-2-2
instead of 7-3-3-3 ?
You know of some good affordable powersupplies?

hello molks, 65cº is high for temp maniacs ( barton die temp is 85cº thats what amd said). it depend on how its performing.
volcano v12 is an awosome cooler at high rpms ( if you dont mind the noise, if you think v8 is noisy wait until you hear the v12).
or you can try the thermalrigth 101 is realy quiet
remember to put a fan on that heat sink (92mms)
http://www.coolerguys.com/840556031192.html
about the power supply theres one from antec at:
http://www.xoxide.com/antec-smartpower-sl350.html
remember alternate cooling solution like case fans (80mm or 92 mms).
about mems low values i beleive are better ( 6-2-2-2)

hi ogk08 athlon xp 2800+ (barton core) is lock from the factory(the multiplier). it runs at 2083mhz. you can start with small increase in external fsb (stock is 166mhz and a mult. 12.5 thats your cpu stock settings). overclocking is about trying and trying until you get the highest and stable settings.
and of course the proper cooling because increasing your cpu setting will inc cpu temps.
amd stock fan is any good for overc.
advise try not to touch your vcore xp2800+ default vcore is 1.65volts max 1.8volt( but dont get it there). try to get application call cpu-z for monitoring cpu speed and settings.

Thanks for the info Dr.xp,
(that heatsink is a CPU watercooling block.. perhaps I will go for that)
I will invest in a new supply.. (now to find prices)
I am encouraged by kalunjoku's results. Tell me kalunjoku, what supply do you have, since your setup has similar power requirements to mine? (I also use a A7N8X but an -E)

what do you guys think about using a coolermaster aero 7 lite? i can get it for practicly free with this computer i am building for work and just swap it into mine. also, my temps only hit 48 at full load with my core voltage at 1.725 (processor was running at 1.77mhz... i was trying to OC)that was with stock cooling, so i think this fan would be sufficent. (should keep me down under 45 at full) non OC i have temps in the low 30's
dose that sound good to you guys?
***also would someone with a simular set up let me know what they changed (if anything) on there ram timings and such
what i will have as of monday :)

Dr. Xp here is my current settings
Mulitplier locked at 12.5
FSB = 200
vcore = 1.8v
CPU Temp = 62c
2.50ghz
Is there a way to unlock the multiplier?

OK YOUR VCORE 1.8 IS ON THE LIMITS AND THATS WHAT GOT YOUR CPU TO 62Cº (MOSTLY)
BUT YOU NEED HIGH VOLTS TO COPE WITH HIGHER FSB
2.5GHZ FOR XP2800 IS A LOT CAN BE A RECORD JEJEJEJE
IS IT STABLE?? HAVE YOU RUN PRIME95 FOR STABILITY?
IF IS STABLE IS OK. THOSE 62Cº THAT IS IDLE OR LOAD.
IF IT IS IDLE YOU NEED ANOTHER HEATSINK THAN THE ONE YOU ARE USING RIGHT NOW.

ogk look idle is when you are doing nottin on the pc,when it boot into win thats idle temp. load is when you run a heavy application like a game doom3,unrealtournament04, 3dmark03,3dmaRk01.n-bench thinks like that stress your cpu.
prog to manage your temp asus have monitor prog for your mobo temps,or hmonitor,speedfan,mbm5 for example.
and do as i do i run application and when finished i run the mobo monitor to check the temp..
that heat sink of your is pretty standard for that overc cpu...

Hey guys, I'm new here to this forum. Just wanted to give my details of my Overclocking.
SYSTEM SPECT'S:
NF7-V2.0, 2800 barton 8th week. Stock fan, heat sink. 2x256MB 400MHz DDR PC3200. With a touch of a button in bios, my 2800(2.0ghz) = 3200 (2.2)@ 48'c. I'll show you here copied from Pc Wisard 2k4: I play online games all the time, and runs very stable, a heat increase of 2 to 3 degrees.
Processor : AMD Athlon XP
Frequency : 2194 MHz
Support : Socket A

Processor Temperature : 47.5 °C
Processor Fan : 1323 rpm
O, I got the Chip off ebay about 5 months ago. Seeing that it was a unlocked chip, I grabbed it up! It runs 400fsb too. You can see my system spects on Glexcess as well. I didn't see anyone explain the week that a chip was made. Do a search online to see what week AMD caught on to oc'ing the barton, and when they locked the chip. Happy oc'ing buds.

man im a little confuse about your cpu sound to me is unlock cpu but 2800+ at 400fsb are you sure about that try to run cpu-z application to see the specs
or theres an app in amd webpage to see cpu settings.
hey!! 2800+ are getting popular!!! :O
