Well for starters you cant do 64bit gaming worth crap. If you want to brag and impress do it on air cooling.

Dr.xp,

I just have to say that you have come a long way since the start of this thread.

At the beginning you knew nothing about overclocking, but you learned from others and are now teaching others.

That is exactly the sort of attitude expected from Afterdawn members.

You are a shining example to us all.

Keep up the good work.

Hey Praetor,

I think its about time that this bragging was addressed.. We are 'poor' overclockers that are unaware of the tools of the masters.. (ie WATER) wow that was an amazing invention! I am doing my overclocking without water.. I am a supercomputing noob/nerd that needs the thing to run for *ever* overclocked. Water just evaporates over time man..

My mobo is a piece of crudd (a new A7N8X-E) that is never going to do better so I need an upgrade to get

1. Better stability of RAM timings
2. Higher Vcore overclocks
3. RAM Voltage increments

I as a peasent, will always go for aircooling since a good waterblock and radiator are as much as a better mobo and CPU combo.

Anyhow the guy has one of these working at 3.0 Ghz ? Proove it.. I want more info, benches, stability and tests. How did you test?

Hey teztous,

I dont hate you dude, I was serious man, plz give us more information.

I would like to kmow some info about your CPU;

the stepping info and AXD numbers also the week and year the chip was made.

Mine is an AXD made in week 03 of 2004 (0403 I'll check as I forgot).

Also if you can tell us your mobo rev and make, mem timing and multiplier FSB clocks.

After this plz I want to know: what CPU watercooling block do you use and what pump?

I have some serious problems believing you (not because I dont want to!) because usually only phase change cooling can give such high Ghz overclocks.

The reason for this is simple. The die on the chip needs to be cooled immediately and the latency in water cooling systems and air cooling systems (not too bad with water if its very well set up) to do with heat expansion of the die stops the die functioning correctly.

I recently cut up my case to give better cooling, with an extra fan above the heatsink. I get 10 degrees cooler operation now on full load (43 down from 53).

Thanks,

Molks

If you're going to compete you better use cooing power for the price rather than cooling power alone. If you only compare cooling power, water will most likely win every time.

Note CPU to block contact is 1.2.

My temps are: 21 idle / 33 load, no BS. Note i made the watercooling my self and my own tests prove that it is better then the $300 Aquarius H20 cooling solution.

Well if you're after rads then i urge you NOT to buy one of those brandname ones. Go for a car heater core, these are way better then those factory made PC watercooling ones. When it comes to pumps bigger isnt always better, for eg a 600L/h pump isnt always better then a 300L/h as water that is pumped to fast dosnet get enough time to cool down. 300L Eheim 1046 is good for most applications.
A highspeed 120mm fan is a must, preferrably moves around 80-110 cfm (3000-5000rpm).
As for fittings i recommend 3/8" fittings, you can use 1/2" if you like though. Well afterwards with a decent h20 setup you should lower those temps by about 10+ degrees celsius.

You should try mounting your radiator outside your house or in a remote room to keep the room your computer is in from over heating. While you're at it, you might as well hook up the water cooler to your Northbridge and video card, and if you can jimmy-rig something, surround your power supply and maybe the HDD(s) with some kind of heat sink. Now I'm fantasizing. I just think it would be cool to try empty most of the heat from inside the case to a totally different location. Just think: no fans? a silent computer. My room gets really hot in the summer and spring from my computer. Maybe I could set up the radiator in the intake vent of the central AC. Hmmm, this sounds like a huge project. I will make it happen, some time?. and I will be sure to tell you all about it.

Hey, Chill, chill with all that O wow man.

Radiators are what you need, yes, we all need. Problem is if you are going to dump all your heat some place you have to use pumps.

I would prefer a peltier solution with water cooling myself, but I cant be bothered what with all the other stuff I have to do to set it up yet.

Sorry to say this but my mobo, cpu solution will NOT overclock my 2800XP (on air). The problem is simply that I have a stubborn CPU.

Hi all,
just joined and have enjoyed the thread, but I am new to the OC'ing, and I am curious how to do this easily and safely. If I hit the 2.2 ghz stable I will be happy.

I guess I am a little confused with the whole 'multiplier' and the possible need to adjust the vcore.

i'm now wishing i had the 2500+ ;)

any help you can supply would be great. I have no intentions on water cooling, I'm just trying to make what i have last until i go nuts with a new system and PCI vid.

Thanks,

Jagerbreath
