jordanc, those simply are there because of comments people make on the files. You can add comments to your shared files and ratings so if 10 people rated it bad you'd get a red exclamation markbut if they said it was good then you'd get a green one. It depends on the number of comments!

DELA ok, i've had emule on the go now on and off for three days, ive definitely been connected overall for more than 15 hours total yet i'm still waiting for the two films i requested upon first installation..... i have to see this through to the end but it is a very long time to wait.....my speeds arent high, occasionally i get twenty something and i have had 42 at one point but they soon dropped right back down to 2 or 3kb speeds even 0.something

have i done something wrong?

did you mean it speeds up after 8 hours continuous connection????

I've just realised something strange with downloading that I am going to share with everyone now and add to the tutorial next update. Click the shared files button, look for the download (it should be listed after a few megs have been downloaded!) right click it and change its priority from normal to release which is very high priority. This has added some speed to my downloads and I can explain why too!

When downloading you get different parts of the file, it doesnt all download from start to finish. if you are uploading that file a lot then chances are someone you are uploading to will have a part that you dont and since you are uploading to them, your priority on their upload queue shoots up and you begin downloading from them much faster than you usually would! This is also why its important to have NO LIMIT on your upload speed so that more and more can get uploads from you and then you can get a high priority from them.

Neat trick eh?? ;-)

Someone try it out and see am I right!

well I have to say that I'm still not impressed with emule...

I still havent got the two films that i requested when i first started it, i havent confused issues by adding extra downloads, its always running in the background whn my computer is switched on yet i RARELY get above 5kb download speed.

I've been very patient with this and followed all instructions... I think I'm in need of some tweaks because despite the fact that you do get a lot of fakes etc on kazaalite you do at least get your files within two days MAXIMUM not the five days plus now for my HALF COMPLETED downloads from emule.....

HELP BEFORE I LOSE MY PATIENCE.... PLEASEEEEEEE!!!!

:(

First thing is this: keep Emule on 24-7, not 15 hours over a period of 3 days. Having used Kazaa for 1.5 years, the one thing you get addicted to is the speed and promptness of it all. Emule doesn't ,as yet, have the same speed for me but the stuff that is available is for the most part not on Kazaa. I've downloaded just under a dozen movies which I was never able to find in Kazaa in the last couple of weeks. You only have to look at the listings on Sharereactor to see the stuff that is available. You have to admit that they have a lot of old movies that are not in Kazaa or you may have to wait several months if you do see it. The new stuff is unlikely to be fake!
Think of it as a trade off in terms of availability and speed. With regards to 'Tweaking' go/join the forum on the Emule-Project.net, you'll get some advice from experienced users. The following was one of the posted messages I found:
One thing that is VERY important to how eMule operates is the TCP/IP settings.
By TCP/IP settings I mean the MTU, MSS and the DefaultRcvWindow (TCP Receive Window, or simply RWIN) etc.
Those need to be matched to your connection speed for best results with eMule.
(and yes .. it does matter)
Go here : http://forums.speedguide.net:8117/
and if the bandwidth * delay product section doesn't match your connection speed, then I suggest you check here http://www.speedguide.net/index.shtml to see how you can change it. (it's done in the registry)
I know there is a guide on how to setup your TCP/IP settings so that it runs perfect with eMule I just don't have the link for it, but I will look for it and if I find it I will post the link.

jordanc, my downloads take approx 24 hours as do most of the big users of eMule! I always have my computer on, I give it a few hours break every week, usually on a sunday. Its no harm to leave it on constant flow. Also, if you have been switching off your computer or disconnecting from eMule, what good will that do you?? eMule works off queues so when you disconnect, your position in a sources queue is lost and you are throw back to the back! eMule is far better than kazaa!!

DELA - I can see the point in leaving on your computer all the time for fast downloads its just that i dont like to leave computer on 24/7. I got badly hacked once a couple of years ago. I now have corporate antivirus and a software firewall (Norton 2003) but i still wouldnt be completely happy leaving pc until i have some kind of hardware firewall or router.

I am still persevering though and as I'm studying for two exams on wed the next few days should see it connected for about 14hours a day which is a compromise I suppose.

Have managed to get the first half of one of the films I was trying to get and I do have to admit that the quality is superb.

Are you aware that by using a firewall at the same time as eMule you may block connections, hence slow downloads? well unfortunately this is true and its true aswell for Direct Connect!

You said that you have been uploading a lot lately?? well is it a possibility that your isp tried to block your client port?? This has happened on many occasions and gives a low id. Also the server could have easily been very busy lately! or it could be your firewall even!

Dela - i've been using dc and emule and am geting slow speeds from both, so you reckon that if I switch off my firewall (zone alarm)that it should improve? Dont like the sound of that but if you say so.

Also i tried the link that enzyme posted and got this

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1310.72 kbps (163.84 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 524.288 kbps (65.536 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

I have an adsl connection so is this OK?

HELP PLEASE

Hi,

I'm new to EMule and I have some questions :P

I can't seem to download anything. I mean i have like 5 QR: 1 but when they start downloading it with speeds 1Kb/s or less and then it stops tranferring and puts me into queue. I'm trying to download a movie and after 8hours connected i only have 512Kb downloaded.

I have to admit though that my connect is not very good. It's a 128Kbps connection. Normally i download at 15Kb/s.

I have a High ID all the time, a firewall too, but it was like that before i installed it, so that can't be the problem.

Is that just the way EMule is?

Thanks...

I have had E-Mule for a couple of months and i have gotten over the slow downloads because the security and quality is worth the waits. My Question is, i hope someone can answer, i downloaded a movie and when i try to play it on any player (ex. WinMedia 9, Real Player, Quick Time, Zoom Player) it spits this error message saying "Class Not Registered" The file properties seem ok. Did i get a bad download? is it E-mule or is my Computer misssing somethin? I guess this question is'nt really for this thread but you guys are wicked smart and fast on the answers. So can anyone help?

CIF, did you setup your connection settings and stuff like that??

Mopreme, try changing your client port because your isp may have gotten smart and blocked your connection!!

MASH, there have been a few complaints about that problem on the forum but as yet i havent seen or found a way to fix it!

CIF - I have a 600kbs modem yet it still took me 6 DAYS!! Thats right 6 DAYS to download two films simultaneously. Each film was split into two parts too. This frustrated the hell out of me but I have to say that the quality was worth the wait. You can get good quality films off of KAZAA and suchlike but they're not guaranteed to be of good quality or even what they say they are!!
My own learning experience of emule has taught me that you do need to be connected 24/7 for better speeds and also that a download may start at 0.something speed but the longer you are connected the more quesues you move to the front of and download from.
As for stopping and then starting again, you've got no control over the person you're downloading from turning off their computer or disconnecting from emule and this is probably what has happened. That would then mean you have to wait til you get to the front of someone elses queue before you can start to download again. Also, the more sources there are available for your download the more chance you have of a quicker download.

Its frustartingly slow sometimes but after all my previous abuse of emule in this forum I am of the opinion that patience is a virtue with this app and its a virtue worth having because the results are better than anywhere else.

jordanc, downloads are transfered in different parts, it doesn't download from the start to finish of the file, you could be getting the end part, but however, some one else could be getting the first part and then you could basically trasfer to each other the different parts. so you can imagine when there are 500 sources what its like. If you have or are uploading to somebody then you will have priority in their queue to get parts that they have that you need! For this reason, set the file you are downloading to release priority and your download speeds rise!! It's perfect :-). Files you are downloading usually appear in your shared files list after 30mbs or so have been transfered so right click and you can mess with the priority!

nik99, Kazaa has got the speed but eMule has the best stuff!! I mean you just have to look at sharereactor!! On your first run of eMule its pretty strange but when you get used to it its great!! I mean, this is what eMule is like, look at Linkin Park - Meteora, release date 25/03/03, released on sharereactor, 19/03/03. It was released on IRC earlier obviously but immediately got to sharereactor. I was just using that for example of course, i dont think download full pre release albums is a nice thing to do, it's being bold!! :P

Mopreme, disable your firewall or include a rule that allows port 4242

I have a question too Dela, why is it that I lose my High ID when I reconnect? It usually comes back shortly after people start downloading from me (usually immediately after conncetion) because I have about 5 gigs of shared stuff.. any ideas why it loses the status upon initial connection?

If you have been disconnected from a server then it could mean the server is having problemk or is full therefore when you reconnect the server may not respond correctly and give you a low id!
