sniper you said you got it to work with swap magic 3.6 correct? Did you have to rebuild it ro did you just get it and burn it? What was the size of the file once you burned it?

P.S. when you sid burn with Dvd decrpyter read, what is th eread part about? How big was the file when you burned it?

Yo Burngames all I did was decrypt SWBF2 with DVD Decrypter using mode read** sorry about that. Then I patched the dna$ id into it using Windip1.7. Then burned with dvd decrpyter at 4x. No rebuilding or any of that confusing stuff. I dont know the size I think it was 4.43gig yea. Then I boot it with SM 3.6 thats it.

So I think maybe the problem is a rebuild probably isn't necessary.

Well you can execute a TOC refresh or simply try a straight burn. Not ALL games over 4.38GB's need rebuilt to work with SMD 3.6, it's just a rule of thumb. Sometimes they work fine. There's no exact science.

Watch the all caps messages. Try rebuilding with Nero and IsoBuster: http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id4.html#rebuilding This works as long as no single is over 2GB's. What brand of DVD-R's are you using?

So, what we are saying here is that if you have SM 3.6 then there is no rebuild nescessary and the game should work? I cant remember the size of the one I have, 4.39Gb or thereabouts, i think. I have tried to burn onto TY at 2x and 1x with no luck, I just get the 'Insert a valid PS2 disk' message.

Can anyone help me with this. If I do need to rebuild what, exactly, do I need to get and do.

Thanks

Is this problem only for that PAL version?

I grabbed this one before:

Star Wars Battlefront 2 (c) LucasArts *FULLDVD* *PAL* - CONFUSION

and I couldn't ever get it to work.

I am grabbing this one now:

Star_Wars_Battlefront_II_USA_PS2DVD-Start2

FYI: it's about 2 GB, compared to the CONFUSION release which is about 4.2GB

Judging by my experiences with this game and what others have posted, it looks like something is up with the PAL version, or maybe even the ISO that got released earlier than the US download. I couldn't get the PAL version to work at all. When you try to rebuild it, it only goes down to something like 3.9Gb, but when you rebuild the US version, it goes down to 2.83Gb. There's something in the PAL version that would make it seem like it's not a good one to use to try and get working... at least from my experiences.

I've finished rebuilding the US version down to 2.83Gb and I'll be testing tonight when I get home. Judging by what others have said, it looks like it should work.

I rebuilt star wars battlefront 2 and now its 2.40GB. Do you guys think it will work? The original was 4.37. How much can swap magic hold?

I fat fingered my response to the US size of the rebuild.... 2.4 (roughly 2.38 with bit/byte conversion) is what everyone else is getting. Looks like it should be fine. Swap Magic can hold, I believe up to 3.8Gb or somewhere around there, not sure of the exact size, but my old rusty 2.0 version can load games in that range just fine.

I used DVD Decrypter and made an iso out of my game THen I burned it using DVD Decrypter at 1x onto TDK media. I use SM 3.6 to boot up and everything seems to work but the sound is a little messed up in the tutorial. I didn't go much further than the tutorial. The voice and sound effects would repeat or just sound wierd. I patched it with windip and burned it again but using Sony media. I boot up with SM 3.6 and swap the disc and SM says to insert a valid PS2 disc. Any thoughts on how to correct the sound? I will have to burn another Sony DVD and try again. Thanks in advance. BTW I haven't gotten it to work with HDL v0.7c or HDA 3.0.

So do I need to rebuild this version (the newer, USA NTSC version)?

Unpacked it is about 4.3GB or so.

I just want to make sure before I burn it again. I use Swap Magic 3.6 - FYI

Thanks for any help! I have never had this many problems in buring a PS2 game before

I've never had any problems with any games except this one. In fact, this game has caused the first two coasters I've ever made since my PS2 backup career began.

I'd say rebuild it anyway. It's not hard to do at all and from what I can tell, cant hurt anything to just go ahead and do it.

Thanks Dave. Gimme a plug so I can get that badboy stickied. Yeah troublesome game indeed. I'm almost tempted to download it, except there's a million games I'd rather have. As far as the sound skipping in the tutorial, Hursty boots it with a modchip and has the same issues. There's definitely something wrong with the iso file if this many people are having issues with it. The cutoff for Swap Magic is 4.38GB's, so try a straight burn with DVD Decrypter. If that doesn't work, rebuild with Nero and IsoBuster: http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id4.html#rebuilding I know everyone's sick of hearing that, but that's really all you can do.

Ok Finally got it to work (NTSC Version) but I think it may have been dumb luck. Basically I made the iso with DVD Decrypter, patched it with windip and the dna id given earlier in the thread and burned it back with DVD Decrypter but at 1x and verifying data after written. I tired it with SM 2.0 and 3.6 and they both worked. I have only been through the tutorial but everything is working great. I had a lot of problems before I got it to work though and went through a bunch of DVDs. I have a Sony DVD Writer (DRU-530a), Sony media, Playstation2 V1 (I think). I tried burning with Nero but Nero would only go as slow as 2.4x. This worked but the title screens (when you had to hit start) would stall for a few seconds. I had a bunch of other problems but I'm sure you only want to hear what worked. Let me know if you want to hear the other problems though.

HDL v0.7C and HDA 3.0
