Fair enough. If you're after 3Ghz, might as well use Arctic Silver.

3? I heard 5 is the best stuff, or do you still have a tube of that lying around? In which case use it, there probably isn't much difference between them.

an X1900XT. It'll play more games, make them look better, not overheat, and you can get XBox 360 controllers for PCs anyway. It's a win win situation!
I'm 18 btw.

Hi Sam,

I have my Freezer Pro set up to where the fan faces the front of the case and the exhaust goes straight into the rear exhaust fan of my case.

How will the X1900XT hog up your memory? The only memory it uses it owns, there's no Aperture-increasing or Hypermemory going on...

Nephilim, cool, that's OK then, how I wanted it.

Erm, Nephilim, do you know why FIHSNERD was banned? Can you send emails to people when they're banned on AD by finding out their email? This guy seems like he was shortly to order some stuff and now can't. It may have been his own fault for getting banned, but I'm sure you see that puts me in an awkward place.

If you have his addy there's no reason you can't email him. He won't be able to access his pm's till he's back though.

Hey I had a question about Corsair memory. Someone on xtreme-source mentioned that he had 8 different Corsair sticks die on him in three years, on three different setups. This person has good PC knowledge (Crowy would like him- DFI guy), but that just seems strange to me. What're the odds of something like that happening? What would be some possible causes of that?

@Tokijin,
Quite possible if his board supports memory overvoltage and he had changed the jumper on his board to give him up to 4volts in the bios.Maybe he was giving his ram too many volts thus shortening the lifespan.I havent had a real good look yet to see which ram can support
those kind of voltages but thats what I will do when I can afford to upgrade to some top of the line memory.

@sammorris,
You got it in one.I still have a tube of AS3 here.

crowy,
How about some Sandra benches for Math and Memory bandwidth remember to move the slider on the bottom to show memory timings and speed. For the Math same thing to show the processor and it's current speed.

Got my D940 all together and running great at 3.71GHz. Memory timings of 3-4-4-8 at 464Mhz. All on a 928MHz FSB.

Here's the CPUZ

The Math

The Memory Bandwidth

the Multi-Media

It runs x2 4400+ numbers and cost $200 less. I'm real happy with it!

I appreciate that. I ran Prime95 all night and when I got up this morning there were no errors! That's a good thing. Max temperature was 41C. It's now idling at 29C with an ambient temp of 31C. Like I said, I think my theory on 2 seperate lower wattage heat sources is correct. Look at my Prescott which is a 90 watt CPU, but with a single source of heat. While the Zalman cools it pretty good it's still not near as good as it is on this computer. I've got it stressed pretty good so there should be lots of heat to liberate, but if the temperatures aren't as high to begin with then theres got to be lower temps which is exactly what I've found. I think the key is better disapation because of the 2 cores which spreads the heat over a wider area of the chip giving the heat more area to escape to the cooler's heat sink surface! I mean, I am using the same cooler on both machines and this one is even OC'd a bit more than the prescott, 3.71 vs 3.64!

Yep, top stuff. How exactly is it 2ºC lower than the room temperature? I can't quite work that one out.

I have no idea and I've questioned that one myself many times when people post the temps. in my case I think because we have a Swamp cooler in the front of the house and AC back here that it,s caused by the humidity and the evaporative process in removing that humidity. Good air flow aids the cause too! I have a ceiling fan to help keep the air moving as well! I also went to great lengths to make the wires and cables as neat as possible for better air flow. I even dropped the 92mm front intake fan I had on the Prescott because it just isn't needed. Since it's the same case only black, the case isn't the answer either.

Here's my temps while folding!

That's as high as it gets!!

Then show me!!! I've seen 5.1 on THG but thats absolute max and with Liquid Nitrogen too.

Those temperatures are absolutely mindboggling. 38ºC full load and no higher. My system's well above that before windows has loaded! In fact, my system probably idles at TWICE your CPU temperature. Given that most of your load temperature is the room temperature, goodkness knows how high that factor is.

PeterG969,

Someone is pulling your leg or altering the test. Even Tom's Hardware only got to 5.1 and that wasn't stable enough to run benchmarks. Getting it there is one thing, being able to use it is quite another! I think the 3.64 I posted for a 3.0/800 Prescott is outstanding for that CPU. I'm happy with the 3.71 this one runs at. I ran Prime95 all night with no errors so I know I can depend on it! Temps are no problem but it will break down electricly like a leaky pipe if I push it much more
