Well it is like this man, bittorrent normally runs off the ports 6881-6999.If you are not using a router you are gonna get blocked by the windows internal firewall. In order to open up those certain ports you have to forward them with a firewall program.I just used ZoneAlarm as an example.I am sure there are better firewall programs out there, but the main thing is you have to forward those ports so you can send and get your data without being blocked by that firewall. The firewall program such as ZoneAlarm has a setting in there where you can ignore and enable certain programs. If you type in Azureus 6881-6889 for ports in the program and say you trust it.The program will automatically forward those ports through that firewall in Windows. You can also do the same thing with bittornado type this in instead though Torrents 6881-6889.The reason I am saying go with ports 6881-6889 is the fact that it seems to work the best, but you can use the ports 6881-6999 if you want also.I would help you out right now with the program ZoneAlarm, but I don't have it running.I used to have it running on my computer when I didn't have a router. When I got my router I just didn't even use it anymore, because it really isn't needed for my internet setup.I am gonna try to find you a good tutorial on ZoneAlarm alright Spunks3.

my averge on bittorent is 85-190, some time it went upto 266, and the file was around 6.33GB I had it downloaded in less than 14hrs.
I am running on slow cable, I used to have Dsl but swithed to cable, cable is faster.
big advantege open the port 6881-6999 on your firewall and open firewall on your ethernet card.
some notes if you have dsl you need to get to your ISP
where you open the port 6881-6999
If the bittorrent is on yellow you are still behind a firewall, you need to make it green. And then your speed will jump fast up
ex. I used to have dsl and yellow on bittorent, I was doing 10-13, after I opend the port 6881-6999 on all the application, the speed jump 50-90
hope this help

@rspecker it depends, what kind of connection do you have? Are there very many seeds (compared to leechers)?

lol, ok, are you using Dial-up internet (does it use your phone line to access the net), from the speeds your downloading at it looks to be that way. So, one thing you NEED to get faster internet access is broadband internet (DSL, Cable, etc.)
also, if you are behind a router, you need to open the ports 6881-6889. (Azureus can do this automaticlly if your router is UPnP compatible.)
Here is the link for Azureus:

I have the problem of the ISP detecting my BT software. Bittornado and others I have tried. I cannot download hardly at all in the day. At night I get full downloads. The green light is on each time. I don't have a router and no firewalls going. mIRC and web downloads are full in the day. Is there any way to use BT clients and bypass their firewall?

@rspecker talk to your ISP to see if they are blocking the ports, also, try changing it so that BT uses higher number ports (like 25467) then it is less likely to be blocked.
@adj137, unless you want to download one file at a time (KaZaA paired with Protowall does the trick)
then i would use mIRC, as you can download full albums over it, and usually the bots are extremely fast (although you have to wait in a line to get way good speeds). I have great luck using these two search engines:
http://www.mydownloader.com//Default.asp? and
http://www.packetnews.com

I did not read the every post, but it seems that you are trying to open your router config page to forward ports for BitTorrent?
What kind of router do you have? That will depend on what address you need to go to. I know for a fact that Linksys routers have a default IP address of 192.168.1.1. I am not sure with other brands.
