my inbox is a bit sparse today, haven't got time to look thru 'my subscribed list of posts' to see if there's any missing , but i've got a few in the inbox.. will check later properly when i get chance..

edit- the beauty of a multi-core modern pc, ie a pc that can handle the http://login.afterdawn.com/settings/list_subscriptions.cfm list quickly :)

..there's nothing missing at my end, the subs list matches what was in my inbox overnight/today - not much but it must've been quiet last night is all..

ok im in the middle of the road as to posting this stuff in here or in the OC'ing thread..lol dont wanna take anyone off topic.

i added my 7th fan in the bottom of my case.(partly PC building) i got my wireing pretty well cleared of all fans and their direction of air flow.i now have the 3 fans towards the rear of the case, the top fan above the CPU the side panel fan right in front of the CPU and the rear fan are all exhaust. then the top fan towards the front, the side panel fan thats towards the fron and the front fan along with the newly add bottom fan that is in front of the PSU are set as intake. i did slow the 120mm antec tricool fan down to medium from high, i can barely hear it run right now,

now with that all said and done. i did do a little more OC'ing..lol i cant help myself 3.7ghz yup nice and stable and at idle is only 2degree's warmer than the last post i showed.
here is everest shot now.followed my OCCT graphs.

Core 1
Core 2

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=376907

now a question. in BIOS when adjusting the vcore. you have to set the setting to manual to make your adjustments. i increased my vcore up to 1.3000v my mem is still onlt at +.03(running at 2.1v)all is stable.but once i set them at those settings i changed it back to auto.now will it keep the settings i choose? or revert back to default settings. It shows the numbers i choose just not highlighted like in manual. i would have to say it is useing the settings i set them at or i wouldnt be able to have this 3.7ghz OC everything is flowing smoothly no hesitation in any thing opening up. when i had it at 3.8ghz there was hesitation in programs.
ive ran OCCT for a hour its stable.orthos has been running for 40 mins no problem gonna let it go for a hour then do the sandra burnin test.

shaffaaf,
Make that pic smaller please! You are messing up the screen resolution for everyone. Either make it narrower, use the direct link or remove it please. At 1680x1050 I should never have to scroll the screen side to side!

Thanks,
Russ

Lol I don't usually view afterdawn full screen, so that picture even messes with my box at 2560x1600!

What's the performance difference between very high and high? On High, a single card gets 19fps at 1920x1200 with 4xAA.
What makes you assume the GTX280 review is using AA? Generally I find if a bench is using AA, they tell you such. Given those scores though, I would sincerely hope they are!

There are mountains of GTX280 reviews out there now, so let's try and clear this up.

At 1600x1200, no AA, the GTX280 (overclocked) gets 31fps average... according to HardOCP.
According to Tweaktown, however, at 1920x1200 Very High, also no AA seemingly, the GTX280 gets 20fps.

sammorris,
Tech Power Up has a full review on the 260/280. It just flat stomps the competition in most tests and resolutions!

Check it out!

Thanks for the link Russ, I've read about a dozen reviews for the GTX280, and impressive though it is, it runs similarly to the 9800GX2 in too many games to currently be worth the extra cost.

That Zotac version is impressive though, a full 10% performance boost over the stock card has to got to be one of the biggest gains I've seen for a pre-overclocked retail card.

bar crysis, honeslty, (unless your over 1920) its just not worth the 10fps when going at 100 with the GX2. esp now the GX2 is about £300, compared to eh gTX280 its a bargin.

come on £250 4850X2. :)

Lol are they making a 4850X2? They probably ought to based on the success of these initial tests.

Scan UK:

Leadtek 9800GX2: £316
XFX 9800GX2: £325

HIS HD3870X2: £270

XFX GTX280: £457

That's a lot.

That's why I would be thinking the GTX260. It appears to be the most bang for the buck and a lot less costly than the GTX280!

Here's what Tom's Hardware had to say about it!

The GTX260 is in my mind a better card than the GTX280, merely because it's vastly cheaper, but still offers good performance and has plenty of memory. However, given that even a pair of HD4850s seems to be beating the GTX280, it too may be foreshadowed by AMD's new crossfire efforts.

Well most people don't have crossfire enabled boards(the X38 changed that a lot, but all of us don't have X38 boards). For them the 260 might be a better choice. Oh well, lets see how this unravels.

From a reliability aspect, I see your point. Personally though, I'd think the 4870 (singular) could have some promise.
