that's great if it works for you, but don't insinuate to someone that just had their problems solved that they were steered in the wrong direction by following advice to slow their burn down by other members of this forum.

Well said. Solve the problem and don't confuse the member who received the help. It's okay to talk methods, but don't imply what worked was wrong. vmo1701 is well aware the problem is media that requires a slower burn speed to work. The issue isn't going faster, but trying not to waste a bundle of discs that's been paid for. vmo knows with better media faster speeds are attainable. The problem was faster settings weren't working with this batch of discs. That's what I mentioned before. You don't always have optimal conditions and when things are looking bad, slow down.

When the discs are used up then better media can be purchased (hopefully) and faster speeds tried, if that's what is desired. VMO knows for a fact that Speed Kills, at least where lower quality media is concerned. Sometimes it's not even quality, but compatibility. They're not always the same.

The immediate problem was solved by slowing down, but the underlying problems remain. Too many resources in use during the burn, what kind of media. etc. So you basically put a band-aid on something that needs stitches.

That's a matter of opinion. Apparently faster speeds had been acheived with the same resources before. vmo can verify that or not, but it was the impression I got from the posts. I see the slower settings as using the right burn speed for the conditions at hand. If it works, it's no longer a problem. As I mentioned before, the media is likely the issue and that situation can be remedied with the next purchase.

- so you're cash strapped but doing 7 to 8 movies a day. righty ho then.
(am not singling you out by the way, it's just this burn speed discussion is getting heated, burn speeds always are heated, the discs & the discussions) :P

Anyway, enough of this 16x/18x burning nonsense, this thread is about... Casino Royale. I know the thread has run it's course but by having one big decent thread for the most 'troublesome' movies (yes of course we all know there's nothing difficult about these movies) it keeps most of the new posters in one thread and i don't have to waste time closing threads left right and centre. If fast speeds work for you then all well and good, Each to their own about burn speeds..

I do a fair few discs each week but i have many other things to do each night and 8x is more than fast enough for me. i'm constrained to 8x as most of my burners are USB2.0 but that's all of 8mins for each burn. i now have 2 'burner' pc's but when i only had one burner pc 8x still allowed me to do all my new movies.

Anyway, a few of us have commented on the Nero logfile so let's get back to Casino Royale.

I am not buying all these discs. Most of them are my family members that request I back up for them, so the burning is not a money issue.

LOL Nobody here called the DVD police.

Creaky
You called it. Burning is a personal thing, like politics and religion. Such discussions rarely get anywhere. ;)

Casino Royale is a very long movie, so there is a lot to burn, particularly with all the extras. I don't take those extras anymore since they threaten the movie in many cases. The difference in time
burning it may simply reflect the extreme length of the movie and the
100 or more files that were stuffed into this set of Sony-engineered
files. I think you can expect the ACCuros films, particularly those that are lengthy, to take longer. They are long in real time and have
a lengthy list of false and real files that have to be dispensed with.

I think I tried to bring some 'accuracy' to the confusion caused by Sony ACCros crooked file diversion. It doesn't appear to have worked that well!

Sony ACCros crooked file diversion?
I think I'm starting to catch on to what you're trying to say. Sony ARccOS copy-protection. Wikipedia has a good little article on the subject for those who are unfamiliar with what it is, how it's used, and what it does.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARccOS_Protection

I think I owe an "excuse me" to some people on that subject. I've never seen a player that wouldn't play a factory DVD, even with some of the latest ARccOS copy protection. It seems there are a limited number of players that the protection affects. Another good reason for being allowed to backup a DVD we've purchased, to be able to get it to play. LOL

Read all your comments and need some help.

Where do you find the PSL2 plugin for PgcEdit? I was able to find a site on the internet that had downloads for PgcEdit and some plugins-- plus manuals (BUT NOT THE ELUSIVE PSL2 plugin).

I've Googled it...and gone thru pages of deadends. This appears to be very interesting software and I would like to try it.

ABOUT CASINO ROYALE--
I had no problem making a copy of my Casino Royale using CloneDVD2 vs. 2.9.0.3 and AnyDVD vs. 6.1.3.6.

The author of PgcEdit would rather not have his software associated with ripping.
