lol
Yes, that what he does by soldering a cross on the switch (on picture 3 and 4) effecting in feeding the motor +3V in one position or -3V on the other. I'm still looking for a smart way to find a ~3V source from withing the PS3. Not sure I wanna have it powered on with the hood open while poking around with my volt meter :(

I'm more and more interested by this mod and would like to know the following before I attempt doing it :
- Does the trick still work on firwmare version 1.80 ?
- Are we able to load ORIGINAL imports?
- Does it work for both PS1 *and* PS2 games or only PS2?
If you tried the mod, please give as many details as you can, what you tried, how it works, if there is a problem with different TOC, etc..
Thank you very much

Here Here, things we all need to know have already been asked, does this work on 1.80?
Will this boot imports without swap magic first?
Can someone make better pictures, and show in more detail the 3 switch method?
Thanks in advance.

simon this method works with FW 1.80 my current FW, I have a NTSC US system that works perfectly I tried Japanese and PAL PS2 backup games and both of them worked fine, but you u need to boot any orignal disc (even swap magic) depending on your consol ex: PS3 US use orignal US ps2 game then swap, same goes for PAL and JAP, but I think not all games will load on the PAL system since the backward compatiblity isn't complete

So in theory, On my JAP PS3 all the checks are done when I load any single JAP Disk, so I could thefore hopefully get a PAL to load, great, if i wanted to load a PSX PAL would I need a JAP PSX disk forst tehn or could I use the same JAP DVD because doesnt it use the ps2 as it where to play the psx games?
Please can someone elaburate on the other 2 switches please, some better pictures would be great also.

You would need an orignal PSX JAP disc to play any PSX game, and about the switches you need a three way switche up/down is on and the middle is off, cuz if you flip the switche up it will eject the disc without removing the game icon for the XMB, and if you flip it down it will load the disc you insert.
hope this helps

Here is my 3 switch connection plan board idea drawing.
I still not yet get switch and etc, so not yet open my ps3.
I was use 1x 3-way switch(middle off)and 2x 2-way switch(For switch between original function and swap disc)
Because not yet open i still dont know the ori. disc sensor got how many line, so I just assume on 2.
JUST AN IDEA ON MY BOARD FOR MAKE EVERYONE EASY.

virus3, have you tried PS2 original imports, for exemple, original PS2 Japan game on PS3 USA with the swap trick, does it work?
Also, when the switch is installed, does the original disc stop spinning by itself after it is loaded or are we forcing disc out with the switch while disc is still spinning? (i think that could harm the disc?)
Thanks for the precisions

In theory if the original PS2(JAP)game able to run on ur Ps3(US), than back-up PS2(JAP)game will work same on ur PS3(swap trick).
I think the method are using by pizzag is put in Ori. Ps2 Game in Ps3 when Ps3 on XMB, than u can see what Ori. Ps2 game on ur TV(On the time is pass the Disc Check) and the Ori. Ps2 game will stop running, because u didn't play it. Therefore u can unload the Ori. disc out, than put in back-up game.

Correct me if I'm wrong but what is happening is that an original PS2 disc is used to bring up the splash screen on the XMB and then the disc stops spinning. The switch is pulled, the discs are swapped and away we go.

Ive now completed this mod, what you say is correct, but ive yet to find a way of stopping the spinning, this doesnt effect anything as the drive moter lowers when the exit a disk thefore the magnet catches it and then the wheels at the front guide it out.

I finished and it's working great!
Excellent mod, thanks a LOT to the original poster.
one thing i don't understand is when the ps3 is OFF and i load a disc via the mod, the ps3 switches ON by itself.
Quite strange because the motor doesn't seem connected to anything else, but it's actually a nice feature ;)
An advise for those tempting the mod:
there is no need to cut a wire or put tape on the sensor (the small component on the bluray drive plastic top with the 2 wires that run on the left), if you follow those wires, they lead to a micro-thin yellow plug that's on the bottom left of the bluray drive, just pull it off and leave it hanging there. (take care cause it seems flimsy, think of a plug that's just like the fan plug on PS2..)
The sensor will therefore be deactivated.
other advice, before you attempt the mod, remove ANY DISC from the bluray drive, it will make it a lot easier to put the drive back together at the end.
I have some pics if some are interested.
Good luck, it's easy but it still requires to a bit of care.

I got PAL PS3 as well, after some look-up quite disappointed on PAL PS3.
PAL PS3 need to keep upgrate laters FW to play somemore PS2 game, and at the moment still don't know it can play NTSC PS2 game or not.
So this trick means swap ori. (PAL)PS2 game to play (limited)PAL PS2 game. But the way I still will be try this trick.
P.S. can somebody help me look out is that PAL PS3 can't run PS2 NTSC game!

Hi, I would think NTSC PS2 games work on PAL PS3, even on those newer euro PS3 with emulated EE+GC.
It's really worth a try in my opinion.
I couldn't try PAL PS2 games on my JPN PS3 with the mod beause i don't have any!
In the case they don't anway, you can still play PAL backups and maybe if you use tools to convert your NTSC to PAL games, maybe they can work that way?
