RitekG05 is good stuff and they make it for lots of companies to market .. It makes sense since I haven't ever heard of Philips making -R/RW media .. just +R/RW ...

Expensive! 60 cents a disc plus tax.
You can find them a lot cheaper than that.

I recently opened my first 50 pack of Sony DVD+R MIJ 1-16X. These were purchased because I can no longer find the 1-8X (which have always given me excellent results)in any of the stores local to Charlotte NC. They code as Sony D21 and I have really been disappointed. Out of 10 dvds burned, I have watched 5 and 4 have turned out to be coasters! I'm afraid to even try to watch the other 5. Since I can't seem to find the old Sony branded Ty's at 8X, guess I'm going back to ordering the Ty's from Supermediastore. I have read that others are not having such devastatingly disappointing results, but these really do not burn well at 8X on my NEC burner. Buyer beware!

I just got some SONY DVD+R, 25 pack spindle, blue package, made in Taiwan. They are rated at a 1X-8X speed. They code out with a SONY-D11-00.
Any input on these?
This is my third set of media, my first set being Memorex DVD-R 16X 25 spindle coding as CMC MAG. AM3. These things have a ton of archival issues, drop outs, and occasional frame freeze ups. With everything I have read I figured it was the disc, so I opted for the Sonys, since the general consensus was they are decent (WTF? Sony does sonething right?). My other pack is Memorex DVD+R DLs, 2.4X 3 jewel case pack (Target has these on sale for $10, and at Circuit City today I saw the same ones for $20). I wanted to learn and get proficient on cheaper discs before I play with these DL discs (Yes, I do have a DL burner). And no I haven't tried them or even opened them yet, but I will if you guys want the code.

The code on those Memorex +R DL 2.4x most likely is going to be PhilipsCD2

dolphin2,
$10 for 3 DVD+R DL discs is what I gave for them. It seems like that is a throw away price to me. Not bad if I screw up my first try or 2. In the future I will look for Verbatims. I do have a couple questions regarding them though. First, which distinguishing charachteristics do I need to look for to find a quality Verbatim product? Spacer colors, made in tags, whatever, to facilitate my buying the best discs possible. Second, I have looked a few places for Verbatum since finding afterdawn, and I have not found any yet. Where do you get yours? Local source preferrably, unless huge discounts can be realised online ;)

OK. If your going to use them to learn with, than that isn't much to spend.
Verbatim DL discs are made in Singapore. As far as I know, that is the only place that they are made.
I watch for sales at places like Office Max and others. The last I got, they were $15 a 10 pack. You just have to keep an eye out for them. Most places have them, but wait for sales unless you need them yesterday.
Online prices are about what you will pay for them in a store so there isn't any "super sales" to be had. Unless, of course, there is a regular sale.
Hope this helps.

Cool. I will look for them there then.
Actually, my wife just got me CCE SP, so I am not sure if I will actually need DLs very much anymore. I am hoping CCE SP on some taiyo yudens will yeild high quality results. I was disappointed though that I need Adobe Premier 6.0 or better as a plug in for this program. You spend all that money and then you need another $850 plug-in? That is disappointing.

I buy my Verbatims at Best Buy and also Sony's at best buy..Walmart has a price matching policy.. UMMMM they get away with this by selling 15 packs and 30 packs.. most stores that have sales on these DVDr's carry 25 and 50 packs.. If it is not the same exact product WALMART will not price match.. Walmart is not stupid, they know how to play the game.. You used to get Sony DVDrs 8X that were TY's but now they are all switched to MIT instead of made in japan..I have never had a Coaster yet using the Sony 16X MIT's, so I guess they are a good product. No complaints from me so far.
$2000 dollars for CCE and then pay $850 for adobe to copy $30 dollar movies? Must be nice to be able to blow money like that..
Clone DVD along with Any DVD works fine .. even cheaper , you can rip the movie to HDD with a number of FREE anticopyright programs you can find on line and then just use Nero RECODE .. Even Cheeper method is just to use WAREZ.. If you are into that thing.. Do a search on newsgroups and how to use newsreaders.Or find DVD Decrypter or simmilar to rip and Recode to burn..
$3000 to burn a $2.50 rented movie.. WTF? Are you NUTS?

If you're going to use Warz . . why pay for blank DVDs . . I mean, just wait at the back of Best Buy, Staples, Circuit City or some other store . . when the truck with all their discs pulls up with a delivery . . . just steal yourself a couple of cases . .
After all . . if you're going to be a thief . . you might as well go all the way . .
Maybe get yourself a gun . . and . . well you can figure out the rest . . .
maybe

HMMMMM.. maybe , just maybe we could just have forums like this one all over the internet that tell people just what programs to use to copy a DVD Rom?
Please do not think I am so naive to believe you are buying spindles and spindles of DVDr's to back up your vacation movies.. I mean along your thinking CAT.. You might as well wait in the back of BLOCKBUSTER,Westcoast Video or any other video rental place, break in and just take the movies off the shelf..
Why even bother renting them to copy them.. Just steal them outright.
as you say,

Just because I applied a Macrovision hack to my DVD recorder .. instantly you assume that I use it to steal . . must be your guilty conscience, CRAIGERR . . who's to say I didn't use it to convert the hundreds of video tapes that I'm the LEGAL OWNER OF onto blank DVDs, which under the Fair Use laws of the USofA, I'm legally allowed to do
Also, if you take the time to read some more posts about the LVW5005 . . you may just learn that unless you hack the Macrovision recognizing feature of the recorder . . it may not and probably won't be able to even record off of a VCR that is playing tapes that you made yourself . . again, a LEGAL use of the recorder ..
Last comment, but certainly not the least important . .

What the hell is going on here? The both of you need to settle down!
catfreak, I completely understand your feelings about warez but let's keep it chill alright?
CRAIGERR, the main focus of out site is showing folks how to back up their purchased media and that's exactly what most of the folks here do so knock off the "everyone here's a pirate" bullcrap.
End of story. Back on topic. I don't want to hear another word of it here.

CRAIGERR,
I don't rent them, I borrow them from friends. I have several friends who are very heavily into home theater (as I am myself). To us, nothing but the very best quality (preferable in DTS and anamorphic widescreen) will do. IMO, spending $2800, plus 2 100 count spindles of TYs ($40 apiece online at RIMA or supermediastore) will give me 200 movies, of the best quality for the same cost as buying them new, so it will have paid for itself in just a short while... besides we have the money to do it. I have tried numerous freewares, and even spent money on products that were horrible. Archival issues and 60% quality is horrible on 64 inches, and even worse on a 90 inch horizontal projection screen (which I am in the process of buying goodies for).
Sound rediculous? I buy about 75-100 movies a year, and currently have over 400 titles. Figuring roughly $15 per title I have spent about $6000 on DVDs. I know of about 100 titles my friends have that I want right away, so there is $1500 worth. SO there is $7500 worth of movies. Now, with CCE/Adobe ($2850) and 500 TYs ($200) or roughly $3050 I could have had all $7500 worth if I had made this investment in the first place. SO saving $4450 by spending $2850 is nuts?
Differant people have differant hobbies, and carry them to a differant extent. To me, it wasn't nuts... it was simply logical ;). But it's all good, it is just one's perspective.

sandt38 , have you considered using DL blank media and doing a perfect 1:1 backup instead of using very expenisve software and compressing it to a DVD-5
