The thing to keep in mind about Verbatim is they have regular DataLife and they have DataLifePlus. DataLifePlus is the stuff you want ;)
I just bought 100 DataLifePlus +R from newegg and the part # is 95052.

What's the difference between the two (datalife and datalifeplus). I've read discussions about the two on other sites (haven't checked to see if there are any on this one) and those discussions didn't really have an actual conclusion to em.

these days they're supposed to be phasing out the datalifeplus naming, there's details in a few threads somewhere around here, but the shops are certainly still full of datalifeplus at the moment so don't know when the phasing out is to start

Yeah, I have some Verbs that weren't labelled DL or DLP, so it's pretty new to me. These Verbs I have are great, with the burner I currently have they are just as good as TYs if not slightly better.

the Verbatims are top notch media the DL or DLP(which are getting hard to find) and there alot easier to find than Sony or Fujifilm DVD+R 8x that code out as Taiyo Yuden. and are just as good

In in my experience in times past the regualr DataLife series would use various manufacturers whereas the DataLifePlus series were consistently made by MCC.

That'd be a bummer if there's no way to tell when you're getting the good MCC media :(

@ Creaky & Nephilim:
I have found the MCC Verbs at Sam's Club on a regular basis and the cakebox indicates the discs are made by "Mitsubishi Chemical Corp", I know this doesn't garantee they code as MCC but I have found that 100% of the discs I have purchased are MCC coded. The ID on the discs is: MCC-003-00, book type: DVD+R.
I hope this helps someone. DVD+R 8X Verbs 50 pack.

I just checked the code on some Memorex DVD+R DLs I got the other day (I know Memorex sucks, but they were extreamly cheap for dual layer DVDs) The code says (RITEK-D01-01) meaning that they are Ritek DVDs, and if memory servers me correctly that means these are decent DVDs then right?

I don't have personal experience with Ritek's DL media but Ritek media in general is pretty good.

yes the Ritek is mid grade media so you should be fine with them just dont burn DL above 4x and i would go 2.4x all the memorex DL will code out as Ritek .keep in mind the Verbatim DL are the best on the market

Well I just discovered that the Verbatims are not as compatible as Ritek & Taiyo-Yuden on some DVD Players.Found a Coby & a brand new RCA that flat refuse to play Verbs. So I'm going back No more Verbs for me.I thought I'd give them a try,as everybody braggs on them. But truthfully I've not had a problem frm Ritek,or Ty's..Think I'll just stick with them. SYLA !!

aabbccdd..I just bought a new BENQ 1655 frm new egg
This new BENQ WON'T Let me set Nero on 6x which is what I prefer
16x verbs it will allow 4 & 8 so I burn 8X
8X VERBS allow 4 & 8 so I burn 8X
Don't Really like 8x NEC's,Teac,Plextor alway gave me bad sectors on all varities of mentioned Discs,6x never a problem
Now I can't say the same for BenQ as I have'nt had it long enough. It might write perfect Discs at 8x

@rick5446 - 8x should be fine on the 16x Verbs. i've had firmware anomalies with the Benq 1650 and Verbatim MCC004 (see the Benq Hall of Fame thread for lots of details if you like) which as far as i know haven't been resolved as there's been no new firmware as yet. The Benq 1650 is a very nice drive, just a shame rthe firmware isn't up to snuff yet.

Also if it is iffy? What would be a good alternative burner for [bitsetting, booktype]on the +DVD's

i believe the two drives are pretty much identical apart from the lightscribe feature ie the 1655 is just a 1650 with lightscribe chucked in/on. as to firmware they're pretty much identical as far i'm aware.
it'll just be the firmware is lacking very slightly. that's what i've found with the MCC004 discs, some anomalies in Nero (the burns were 100% fine and watchable but the firmware needs a little massaging)

well i dont know if this is the right froum but it has to do with media.i currenly use 16x+r verbs and the MIJ sony8x+r(ty coded)and the MIJ maxell....i am havena problem getting pixels and some freezing. but here is the odd part its not all the time and is on all the types of disc i use.. i have 3 players in my house 4 if you count my sons ps2....i have most of my problem playing my backups on my second oldest player it is about 3 years old. some movies get the pixels and some dont, then on my oldest player these same moveies (that my first player has a problem with)play's just fine. then there are moveis it wont play that my first player does play.... then my newest play which is my sons its a dvd/vcr combo i havent had a problem with it at all...
do i just need to get me a new dvdplayer or is there something wrong with these playeres reading burnt disc???
i dont think i am doing anything wrong when i burn.. i use AnyDVD and clonedvd2 85% of the time.. and others i have been messing with ripit4me. or dvdshrink/dvddecrypter etc.... you know all the reliable stuff.....
like i said if this is in the wrong forum nephilim or creaky could ya movie it to where it belongs..
thanks for any help or suggestions
ps i am thinking of getting a different burnner i have heard different things about my hp burner and i think it might be some of my problem.....

@cincyrob
Have you tried cleaning the lens?Sometimes dust on the lens can cause freezing.I don't think that the medias you're using have something to do with all these problems, because they're all excellent ones. But i can be wrong now, let's see those who are more qualified think about that.
And about the new burner you're considering to buy, which one is it going to be?The Benq 1650 has quite a lot of good reviews and quite a lot of recommendations from members here in AD.That's how i got mine!
Vincent.

i havent really seen the benq1650 around me here but the 1655 is all over the place. and it is kinda cheap. about $60 i think.... i like the plextors...i can find them in my local bestbuy etc... but are more than im wanting to spend right now.... if it is actually my burner that is my problem.... its is funny with the 3 types of media i am useing the only 1 that i havent had any problem with on my main player is the TY's it seems like my plaer doesnt like the verbs from time to time...

It's no surprise that the Taiyo media plays without any problem where others failed. That's what contributes to its solid reputation as being the best media :)
The 1655 is almost same as the 1650 with only the lightscribe feature as difference. But $60 is still a bit expensive,i've read in some other threads where the 1650 is said to be around $40.It's $20 more only for the lightscribe feature, but if you're a lightscribe guy, then it's ok.The best burners on the market are the Plex, the Benq and the Lite-on.I do own one plex 760A,which i'm still keeping in box(same as the 1650)till i get back home and will finally install them next to my LGs.

i think the 1655 is the lightscribe so that would make sence that its $60. which i can handle that.... seeing i just bought my HP740 in febuary and paid $109 for it.......
it would be a shame if it just my player dont like the verbs, seeing most of all my backups are on them only about 10 or so with the TY's. plus i still have about 60 verbs left...
