cincyrob..Ritek,Taiyo Yuden [-R's]..I pick these even over Verbatims or any other Disc on the market.These have not let me down in any player.I have only used about 200 Verbatims & switched back to Ritek & Ty's,a friend of mine has a Coby will not play any type of +'s or -Verbs.He just spent about a 100bucks on a RCA it won't play Verbs at all..Plays everything else though
DO NOT BUY Ritek Arita AS THEY ARE NOT RELIABLE.
invest in a epson printer,buy the hub printable DVD's.U can put a nice label on your Disc.Definetly pays off in the end

One thing I've noticed Cincyrob, ever since I replaced the power supply, goiing from 250 watts to 450 watts, more excellent burns, I'm not sure if this is coincidence or not, have 2 hard drives, two burners installed in the system, originally I had one hard drive, one burner, one DVD drive. I've been having good luck so far with the Office Depot 16X+R Ritek P16 disks, booktyped to DVD-ROM of course. Just my 2¢ worth.

@blivetNC
I don't think it's coincidence that you got better burns just after you upgraded your power supply from 250 to 450W.Because the 250W was set to supply enough power for one hard drive and one burner maximum,but if you add one more burner and one more hard drive,then definitely the 250W wouldn't be powerful enough to take care of all these drives.That's why after you've put the 450W,you noticed the big difference.You did not guess wrong about that,it's a certainty.The more things you have on your pc and which take power from that same power supply,the higher the power supply's watt will be better,then you'll be sure that all these additional stuffs(hard drive,burners,fans,etc...)will get enough watt to function properly.That's the reason why those who are in pc tuning use power supply with the highest watt.
Vincent.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions,
@CincyRob, check on www.newegg.com for daily specials on power supplies, picked mine up for $29.99 (with rebate) and free shipping, installation was straight forward, unplug the old one, plug in the new one and voila! happy camper again.

I have a Samsung DVD-R120, wife got it for me for Christmas last year, love it. only records -R disks though, bought 15 DVD-RW disks (Fuji -R disks) Love it. Use TYG-01 -R disks for really important stuff, like old home videos and old VHS tapes. My first choice was a Lite-on 5005 unit which records both + and- R formats. B.J.'s and Costco usually stock them for less than $79.00. Just a thought.

@kivory666, aabbccdd, or anyone with the answer;
Who the heck makes Magnavox media, Office Max has them on sale this next week ($13.99 16x DVD+R 50 pack). I am assuming that they are CMC since their media has never been mentioned on a positive note before. hehe. Looking forward to the answer.
..........c
BTW: I use the 8x Verbatim's or Sony TY's most of the time. I have some luck with the Sony made DVD media too but I do heed the advice of The Doc and use TY most of the time. Good stuff.

@kivory666,
Thanks for the heads up, had my suspicions on the "magnetics".
@TY4ever,
Don't call them mine, just looking at the "sales" for the weekend and next week. hehehe. Not silly enough to purchase without the proper knowledge. lol.
Getting low on the good stuff and trying to find other available sources without clicking to buy for now. My low is like the rest of you @150 Verb's and @175 TY's left on the shelf. LOL.
Thanks again to all for the help..

@mord
I think the Maxell MIJ are made by Hitachi and are therefore a very good disc. Someone with more experience could answer your "question" better than I. Check them with a DVD identifier application and see what they code out as. You may be surprised at their quality. Good luck.
Try this thread, it is the Official docTY thread, it is jammed packed with great info on many subjects including "blank DVD media".

thanks for the "shout out" greensman~ :) you are right on the money in terms of the Maxell/Hitachi comment~
mord, both the 8x rated Maxells are made by Hitachi in Japan, in the DVD-R, they are the MXLRG03 coded ones and are very good for DVD-R format; and the MAXELL002 for the DVD+R, also VERY good for the DVD+R format~ :)
you can't lose either way, i would have to say that the Hitachi made media under the Maxell brand are right up there with the Taiyo Yudens that many people have come to love~ :)

No problem kivory666,
Just regurgitating what I've read in the forums. Most of it from you and the respected/trusted members.
@all--Found the MIJ Maxell (Hitachi) discs at Walgreen's, 25 pack for $8.99. 36 cents each isn't to bad. aabbccdd will argue but some of us may not need 200-500 at a time. LOL.
I also looked at the new 16X Sony DVD+R MIJ and they are the SonyD21 id code I think. Help me out here. I forgot to write down the code before I took them back. Was trying to get the 16X DVD+R TY's but didn't. I have read in this forum and the "Official docTY" page that as far as anyone knows they don't exist. Had to check for myself. Hard headed as my wife says. lol.
Good day and a Great weedend to all.

I'll throw a bone out for anyone with an urge to opinionate :}.
just got a short stack of Maxell labeled, made by prodisc FO2. Haven't seen this one in the pages, nor on the list, even though prodisc is there, just not this coding. Anybody know them?
