RipIt4Me will do RAT in Full DVD, but leave an error. A black screen opens up, but pushing play starts the movie. I couldn't leave that alone, so here's my previous post. I guess someone didn't read it closely enough. I got a flawless DVD using AnyDVD, DVD Decrypter and FixVTS. I would suspect ripping with DVDFab HD Decrypter and processing with FixVTS might work. Binkie and the rest of us were right, you have to process for structural errors caused by the copy protection or as a result of removing the copy protection.
Originally posted by PacMan777: I've been toying around with Ratatouille and found a couple of ways of doing a backup. I got a Full DVD backup with RipIt4Me. There's one flaw to the disc, but pushing play starts the movie. The movie plays perfect plus the extras are accessible from that point. Ripping the DVD with AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter (CSS Off) and process with FixVTS allows the files to open in Shrink. That indicates they're compliant and leaves more of the original files than other methods I've tried. The AnyDVD ripper rips to the HD and opens in Shrink. I'm in the process of doing the files with AnyDVD + DVDD + FixVTS with RB/CCE SP. It'll be a couple of hours before I can report back on that one.

AnyDVD and NeroRecode did this movie flawlessly. It's been watched 3 times and a copy was made of the backup. Region 1, movie only!
Since neither DVDFab nor AnyDVD are working on this disc at this late date, I would assume you have a bad press.JM2C

The problems encountered were when trying to do a full disc backup. Most copy protection is in the extra files on a DVD. It's long been suggested that when a problem occurs, try Movie Only. At the time, if I remember correctly, AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 had problems with Full DVD on the RAT. Also, I use RB instead of CloneDVD for better bitrate at higher compression. I like doing Full DVD backups because I don't have to pull the original if there's extras I want to catch. Instead of screening each DVD, I do them all in Full DVD. Sometimes it's a trick getting the right combination of software to get a flawless Full DVD backup, but that's part of the fun.
For this particular problem, I'd suggest doing as Garmoon suggested. Use Movie Only for the backup to see if there's a problem. That's a known easy solution. That is if you have those programs. If not you can rip with DVDFab HD Decrypter in Movie Only. If you want the Full DVD, you'll need to do as Binkie suggested and process with FixVTS.

Changing structure is one of the methods for copy protection. A simple thing like putting brackets around the file title can effect recordability. That was done on a recent release. Different things are done to effect the structure in different ways. That's in addition to CSS and regional codes, and possibly other protections like ARccOS. The reason we use FixVTS is to correct structural errors until the software companies get out the updates. Usually when you wait for a while, the updates will make it. At least so far DVDIdle and Slysoft have delivered. RipIt4Me is still a good program, but there's the occasional movie that gets it because it's no longer updated (no support).

Warning: .bup file location is wrong, .bup processing disabled!
This error message was in the AnyDVD log way back on page 1. Could this possible be related to Vista? That may explain why some people can copy and some can't.
I use Vista and have gottne this message when trying to back up Highschool Musical 2.
If I can learn here so can you.
Search first, then ask. Words to live by.

That line about the bup listed in the media info that AnyDVD gives shouldn't be a problem - you'll usually see that on ones with a little heavier protection on them.
I did the Rat movie when it came out along w/ HS2 using AnyDVD & CloneDVD. No issues on my end. Full movie well almost full cause I only keep certain special features - not all of them.

way back when i read the thread it was mostly people out of region 1 that had the problem w/ratatouille. might try disabling path player in dvdfab hd, and see if that works. also vista has been causing problems 4 many things, and probably backing up, and decoding also. my suggestion would b to read all our posts concerning rat, and staying w/windows xp. if it ain't broke don't fix it. believe me i learned the hard way, and my resolution is to learn from the mistakes of others, and take the suggestions of the more experienced members.

i hear what you are saying,i understand that but i think you missed my piont,
older movies that dvd shrink can handle alone were giving the newer dvdfab beta's i was using problems. if you used the old version of dvdfab it was fine.(before all the resent update. i dont have the VS here to say what ones were acting up)
so far the newest one out is working on the problem disc too.
that why i was think its and dvdfab issues not copy protection

@born2ride
hi born. my experience when the sort of thing happens that you've been experiencing is 2 eliminate all the obvious first. ie; vista, dvdfab hd settings etc.... also i learned that what 1 transcoder won't do another will. many times i've tried to back up some dvd w/shrink, and was unable to because of errors, etc.. then i would throw the video w/the same decoder into 1click dvd copy, and presto it would back it up. why i have no idea, and it doesn't matter anyway. whatever works find it and stay w/it. that's why it's been suggested 2 have as many back up and decoding proggies available. what 1 won't do another will.
these r new dvds right? because if they've been toyed around w/another transcoder that also causes problems. don't get 2 hung up on a couple of dvds. how important is it really 2 have the full movie anyway when it comes 2 a problematic dvd ur trying 2 rip? so if out of 50 lets say,3 r movie only is that so bad? believe me i've gone nuts in the past over this same sort of stuff, and i'm only sharing my experience, and perspective.

Therein lies the problem. Only use a beta for a specific problem the beta may handle; such as the beta addressing a new copy protection. Use the last stable version for the rest of your work. Betas aren't guaranteed to be stable. Most often they aren't meant for public use, but when they are released the user should be careful. You can expect occasional problems. That's why the call them betas, they're still working out the kinks. If the latest version is working okay, don't worry about it. You may have been right about it being the beta. The way to find out is reload the beta version and see if it causes the problem again.

hi pacman. add me to the list of satisfied DVDFab Platinum customers. snatced my registration key last week. 1 question. how can you have a stable version of dvdfab platinum, and the beta separate? when you go download the beta it automatically integrates w/the current version.

I usually keep the DVDFab Platinum updated to the last stable version and if I need a beta to get a particular update, I use the free DVDFab HD Decrypter for bypassing the new copy protection causing the problem. If you're wanting to have both the stable and beta Platinum, try renaming the directory that Platinum resides in before installing the beta version. Adding _1 to the name should suffice. Make sure your shortcut is pointing to the right folder. I've not tried it with Platinum, but I've had multiple versions of other programs set up that way.

oh. i see. so when DVDFab Platinum decides to come out w/a beta, and you want to get it, they add n replace your existing DVDFab Platinum w/the whole program + the beta. has to be that way because if not i'd have to have 2 Platinums. 1 w/the stable version, and another waiting for the beta. i don't have to create another platinum to add the beta right? also how can i keep a copy of my key w/out deleting the 1 they sent me? can i actually make a copy of it, and store it on a cd-r or something in case my hd crashes or something? right now it's on my desktop. thnx.

Now I have a question about this:
I have Ratatouille on my hard drive already ripped.
I tried DVD Shrink which shuts down at 25%, and nothing happens.
I tried making an ISO in DVDFab Decrypter, tried the ISO in Shrink, which still doesn't work.
Now I don't know how I can get it onto a disc.
Can someone help?

hi. it depends whether or not it's compressed to fit a 4.7gb blank disk, or not. if it's compressed already, then just go to www.imgburn.com, and download it. it's free, and you'll b able to burn it onto a dvd, whether it's compressed, or not. if not you'll need a dl disk.
a suggestion would be to just get DVDFab Platinum, and get it over with. you could try it for free, and then buy it. you won't go wrong. believe me.

I will not lie. Dvd Fab Platinum is a good way to go. I have used it myself. And if you purchase it online. You get all future update's for free. It cuts out a lot of middle man running around stuff that a lot of people don't have time for. But there is a alternative that doesn't cost you anything and that is. Finding a program of Nero 6.3.0.3 to go with your Dvd Shrink and Dvd Fab Express HD Decrypter. If you look around on Yahoo!, you should find something. Or maybe someone you know has it. I had the same problem with Ratatouille by the way. And after I updated my Dvd Fab Express Decrypter. I didn't have a problem with Dvd Shrink 3.2 finishing it up. I recommend getting the new 4.0.6.5 that is out since the 18th of this month. If you haven't already.
